So NO they didnt evolve the bacterial flagellum stand alone as being distinct with no line of ancestors leading up to it . u can believe that it evolved from some other undetermined organism but it hasnt been observed or repeated so dont call it science. the best straw man explanation offered is by Ken Miller

-.- The mousetrap analogy demonstrates that even though an object has a specific purpose, with parts removed, it may no longer serve that purpose, but could be useful in a new way for a new purpose. You don't need to demonstrate every transition to show the concept.

The same idea could be considered in Biological terms. And there are many examples of this, in fact there is a plethora of information out there, other than Ken Millers mousetrap analogy that demonstrate it. :)

Just as it was the religious community (namely Christian) that beheaded the "round-earth" notion and the "satellite-to-solar orbits," there is still much to learn.
