The version I heard- Brecker was asked "how does it feel to be the greatest sax player in the world- and he replied "I don't know you better ask Bergonzi".
John Lockwood. One of the most underrated bass players alive. Folks rave about Holland. Listen to Lockwoods intonation and tone.....impeccable. If you don't know better you think he's playing a tempered intrument.
LOL, no way pfeels, I called George and, by chance, talked to him while he was back stage, right before he sat in with Kenny Brooks and Rat Dog... that's a trip!
Damn, I just noticed I spelled tour wrong, lol ... I was with him when you called and he was telling me how freaky it was that you called at that particular time, like some Zen thing, lol
Your welcome, there's plenty of video's with G in them, Check out him singing in the Chooch, just do either a George Garzone or pfeels search ... Enjoy
I heard them at Michael's in the seventies.....

@moffat691 It has been substantiated by others that he made the statement about both. Hey, Brecker knew what he was talking about :)

Fabulous improvisational trio.
Fluid, dynamic, imaginative and interminably musical.

George was my teacher for one year at NEC. I learned a lot, even when he talked about marriage, divorce, and sex.

Didn't he say that about Bergonzi.. not Garzone... but I LOVE Garzone.. just thought the comment was about Gonz?
