It was sad to see it go...and all the memories that went with it. Did you purchase an elevator ticket as a freshman? Ever been to the top? Fun memeories.... I think they were cheering as I was to welcome in the new. My kids will be going to Harbor in another year...and they will have a safe, beautiful, modern building in which to make their own wonderful Harbor memories.
Looks like I got out of there just in time...feeling strangely sad despite the fact that the tower's been closed for four years now. Huh. (Class of '07)
The "Harbor Spirit" isn't in the tower. It is the whole Harbor experiance. Yes, it is an orginal, yes, it is sad to see it go. But things have been changing around campus since the 1940's. It may sound Hoouky but look to the future..and all the new spirt and Sailor Pride that will come with a state of the art main building.
So when will our NHHS bell tower be re-erected in its post-Millennial form? We are all fond of this landmark, visible from across the bay. I recall mounting the narrow steps and having school portraits snapped inside the tower; sneaking smokes there, too. Reading all the (already ancient) graffitti in the stairwell was nostalgic. Chantelle , thanks for posting this (More empowering to to watch this in reverse, I imagine)
So sad to see. I signed my name inside of the tower. The entrance to get up to the tower was located in the Theatre lighting booth. The stage manager as a special treat let me go up there once. In the old days they used to have a real bell in the tower which would be rung after a football game was won. I'll truly miss this historical landmark. Bob Felde Class of 1988.
Sorry to hear that some people are so angry over the tower's demise. I am an alum and am very fond of my old school. The memeories and history aren't lost on me. But I look to the future generations who will enjoy the new and improved building. I am very thankful the new building will looks so much like the old. That just goes to show you...the decision makers also know the value and importance of our beloved Robins Hall. Go Big Blue!!! Chantelle ~ Class of '87
