I am amazed that movie stars, rock stars and other celebrities get the attention that they do when you get a first hand experience of what these doctor's have to go through every day. They are saving lives and not getting any recognition, meanwhile actors and getting paid millions of dollars and huge amounts of attention to act.
tjtesttesttest. You are correct, even though he has full sensesation and movement in his upper and lower limbs dosent mean he hasent got a spinal cord injury but, there could be damage to his lumbar, tharoic vertabre. So he is right, there could still be damge to his spine.
I had a trauma last year, bashng my forehead on a chair. The thing I remember best was being really frustrated that I had to stay awake all night with one test or another, and when I was finally left alone at 7AM, my roommate decided to watch a Law & Order marathon... XP
@1037pm Sorry for this long overdue response, but it looks like we missed a few comments. This was recorded in late 2001, but since the footage has been so popular, we continue to share it.
Sorry for this delayed reply to your question. This was actually filmed several years ago but features many clinicians who are still here, and the stories have been popular among viewers, so we've chosen to leave the vids online. We do use an electronic medical record currently, as well as digital imaging.
I was in this er once with a friend. Someone walked in and said "I'm in anafelectic shock" fell over and the whole staff ran to her. We were there forever waiting for a much more minor problem.
I currently am a Pre-med student working at CMC main in North carolina in the Level-1 major trauma room. While I am still learning, watching videos like this are amazingly helpful

At about 4:35. The fact that he can feel his toes doesn't prove he does not have a spine injury. It just means his spine was not severed. His spine could have some degree of injury.
Now I KNOW Why I went into EMS....

This kid couldv'e easily bled out form the femurs. Why did he not have traction on his legs?
wyo7011 2 years ago
@wyo7011
Probably too close to his pelvis? That would be a contraindication.

very true. but if they can feel it at all mean that the posible spinal injery isnt as severe
