  • I love it... Who ever the fuck you are you rat bastitches........

  • The video and the sound are always on different tracks, so that can explain the bad sync. But this is very bad, so it seems that the video and the sound does not match at all. Somebody might have had some fun. Never mind, it sounds great.

  • at least it is a video of Chet Baker...

  • Daniel Kessler sent me here.

  • Hey, I hear a Trumpet, but I see a Fluglehorn!!!! HUH??? Guess this was all Dubed?

  • Great stuff, however, I;m wondering why the Video is so far off from the Audio???? At least on my system....

  • COOLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh and he really gets in chets way, mostly toward the end of chets solo

  • steve gadd is by far one of my faves, but he overplays this tune. especially the head

  • @zappa3837 I dont agree I think he just burns the whole tune as does everyone else. BTW monster flutist Hubert Laws can be heard throughout the song as well

  • @dogadder thanks, I couldn't figure out who that was

  • I like this version over some other Chet Baker renditions of the same tune for the emphasis on the instruments and it's upbeat tempo. Do listen to his versions. Some are truly blue which reflects Chet's overall Melancholy mood. Cheers

  • Wasn't watching the video until I heard Bob James' solo. Didn't know he played with Baker and Desmond. You can't mistake BJ's solos for anyone else. Fantastic post.

  • @bobyoung53

    I don't hear anyone over

    playing

  • I mean what I suppose is the original by J. Kosma, lyrics by French Jacques Prévert.

  • Is it me or this version is not in the same key as the original part which was in Em.

    Anyone?

  • the drummer needs to get it out of first gear...

  • simply brilliant trumpet player chet baker and brilliant alto sax player paul desmond !

  • search (GSA "Project Funk Jam"/ "All Blues")

  • Esse Steve Gadd na bateria toca muito

  • Sounds like his trumpet. and Hubert Laws on flute

  • Who is tootling the flute before Pauls solo

  • this video is the solo part

  • they are playing song pay attention of the fingers pressed but the delay in the sound

  • I don't know how many versions I have of Autumn Leaves, can't get enough of it!

  • Steve Gadd beginings :'')

  • one of prettiest takes on that tunes ever. a mine to dig gentle phrasing. i like it so very very much, it's so soothing.

  • i feel ashamed that my generation doesn't pay any attention to jazz, this stuff is amazing.

  • Baker and Desmond are great on this piece, it is very sad that they are gone and not able to make more magic for us lovers of jazz.

  • Thumbs up on this remarkable tune. The 10 dislikes have their heads up their collective ass....

  • fantastic music, that is my tune for new day!

  • sepertinye gw harus mainin ini lg (keingetan abis nonton) :*:* ..Oh God,I love It!!

  • What a delicious way to start the morning!!

  • This is truly a Masterpiece.... long live the best music on earth: Jazz!!

  • was there ever a better band of rapscallions? Me thinks not!

  • AMAZING, EPIC, CORE-SCRACHING ........ words fail me!

  • Real loneliness expressed through sound.

  • Oh my gadd...

  • this is the music of love... and all things love ;)...

I saw Ron Carter Yesterday at a Jazz Festival... Kind of Blown away... didn't realise how famous he was till every chet baker piece i'm listening to.. i see him playing bass..

  • for me jazz is like a virus.. it's airborne and infectious... It stays with me for a couple of weeks.. Then I forget about it for a while.. until I catch it again!!! x) ...like now!

  • Superb.TY for posting this gem.

  • How awesome is this.....I've listen to this tune many times before but not this version. This is awesome.

  • how to do that triplet....like gadd

  • @bobyoung53 - Steve Gadd's drumming on this record allows it to breathe and function as a conversation between all of the musicians.

  • Sounds like a Fender Rhodes, but doesn't look like one. Great song, though, from "She Was Too Good To Me"...

  • what a drummer indeed. what a sound considering the recording limitation in the 70's

  • Abuelito como te recuerdo escuchando estoo... :D mi música como tuya brota de mi corazón Te AMO!

  • Fake video, but..its coool!!!!

  • This performance we're hearing is from an LP of the players listed, recorded in the 70s. The video is a strange Frankensteined editing together of various film clips of these same players, many of the clips are from several years earlier. Love the music, though.

  • it´s was one of the most performance of a jazz group i´ve ever been seen and in special the great trompet of Chet Baker and the sax of Paul Desmond... but in real all of their musicinas are magics . That´s a real and terrific Jam session !!!

  • what a drummer

  • Stunning, Incredible Jazz. A Masterpiece. What harmony and symphony of sound! WOW!!!!

  • chet baker....died way too soon...just couldn't kick that drug habit.

  • 10 people couldn't find a rake for the leaves.

  • Chet Baker looks like Flea lol!

  • The best version of Autumn Leaves

  • Cool and utterly smooth ! :-)

  • This is so amazing!

  • It rarely gets any better than this. So smooth. Mm!

  • Ron Carter allways in another world,uh!

  • And the sound isn't flugelhorn either :(

  • neat vidieo trick

  • This is a real video... it just happens the the video clips being shown are not of the people playing the song heard

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE the music, but the lack of synchronization between the music and video does bother me-especially Chet, because I'm a trumpet player, and I know the valves in the video don't match up with the music. The arrangement sounds like something from CTI.

  • @jgjazzman ... I'd have a simple solution for you: don't LOOK ... just LISTEN ...... ;o)

  • Anyone know what album this is on?

  • Anyone know what album this is on?

  • @aaronkay94 The album is a 1974 CTI release through CBS records entitled, "She Was Too Good To Me". Personnel is: Chet Baker on trumpet and vocal, Paul Desmond on alto sax, Bob James on electric piano, Ron Carter on bass, and others. It's a terrific disc! Highly recommended!

  • @euelll35

I'am very glad I found this of Chet. He is truly a piller of the commnuty. This is one of the best tunes

of how to epress chet Baker on his magic . I also have some magic that Louis Armstromg passed on to me

one night in his dressing room on a break way back in 1967. it all started after that ,I just wanted to play my trumpet like the big boys. And so now I can say that I have the magic to trans the audence.

I have a few live video's Randy Di Vitto on facebook

  • The music - as good as it gets .......... the musicians - as good as they get .... good post.

  • well ... it was a good try! But not worked. #FAIL

  • y en la flauta traversa?

  • Amazing Drummer

  • Great to hear him playing his ultra cool horn and NOT singing.

  • @janquen

    ?

  • pareciera no ser el audio del video, los sonidos no coinsiden con las pisadas de los pistones de la trompeta

  • this is in f minor right?

    or a flat major

  • Cool footage, despite the fact that it doesn't match up. Whatever. It's about the music anyways. Great recording. Cool take by some cool guys.

  • IL MIGLIOR JAZZISTA IN ASSOLUTO Autumn Leaves - Chet Baker & Paul Desmond Together

  • Ok, for those that obviously missed what has been done here, the director Bruno Cabrejos has apparently put forth some great effort to bring back a near live feel in sight and original sound of these jazz masters performing. Although the film work is taken from other actual performances by the these same artists, it has been amassed to bring back a near live experience of these musicians now gone bye. Click the large screen option, upvolume and sit back to enjoy especially the last minute superb!

  • Absolutely amazing. Everyone gives cred to Baker and Desmond, but what about Steve Gadd? That guy is an amazingly tight drummer and can play so many styles of music.

  • Can't be. Chet and Paul didn't know how to bullshit.

  • Is that Percy Heath on Bass? Forgive my ignorance but Who's on keyboards?

  • @hohaia01

According to the description, Ron Carter on bass and Bob James on keyboards.

  • I have pain in the ass

  • Somethings amiss with this film...

  • This is a great video fluraf, the way we used to watch music on serious TV channels all over Europe (and in Japan) back in the days. This is real.

  • duh? paul desmond is one my favs. mean chet trumpet...alto...and cool geek piano!~ thanks jazz geeks. :)

  • Great song!

  • il video è un fake................

  • Unfortunately it seems Chet's estate seems to be in a fight with Columbia and therefore any record label that made jazz in the 50's and early 60's. I came on to turn my kids on to the art of eloquent singing. Somewhere in between a croon and a sigh... Unfortunately money has yet again disturbed the arts from being accessible. Thanks Columbia and the Baker estate for making the great music your distant relative made unavailable...

  • Awesome! TY.

  • Just blows my mind away!

  • Simply amazing.

No words can describe the true feeling of jazz music.

  • @Firestarter89 I bought this CD it seems a million years ago. Then I bought a backup copy - just in case the CD wears out (gives my age away?). Whats Carter doing on bass? Did Bob James prepare that solo? Steve Gadd - never heard such oh sensitive drumming! There can be no greater demonstration of love as these musicians played. Another fusion of creativity created in another galaxy.

  • This disc - She Was Too Good To Me (CTI-6050/vzk40804) Recorded in 1974 Chet Baker (tp) Paul Desmond (as) Bob James (pn) Ron Carter (bs) Steve Gadd (dr) -- In the same disc: David Freidman (vib) Jack Dejohnette (d) Strings
  • Grazie! ,,,

  • Grande influência na música brasileira...e das melhores!

  • Two of the greatest spontaneous melody makers of all time.....Thanks for sharing...JT...

  • Why is this in F minor instead of G minor? Is that just because that's how Chet Baker learned it?

  • @Vitruvian42

Chet certainly would have been able to play this tune in all twelve keys. However, some players prefer to play standards in different keys so it sounds good in a certain register of their instrument. Different keys have different 'colours.' Check out some Dexter Gordon, he played a lot standards in other keys. The tune 'Autumn Leaves' is often called in various keys and is one, if you are a musician, you should know in all twelve. The tune is fairly simple.

  • What you people seem not to recognize (including those who say they are trumpet players) is that on the audio it is a trumpet playing and in the video he is seen playing a flugelhorn. This is a montage of various videos, the correct players are seen here, but they are not together. The Paul desmond solo with this video is quite comical. For those who are bitching about it - get a life! At least we are getting a fine piece of music in which, I think, Chet plays one of his finest solos.

  • @CambsDoug Amen to that!

  • I like this video - however, I must agree it is FAKE! The music is great - even awesome. But it is a travesty to these great musicians to put such a makeshift video on here. Notice their movements . . . all the same!

  • I love the drumming style. I don't even play drums but it sounds very technical.

  • @sanjak Steve Gadd is like the most recorded drummer in history. He's a beast, and a master of 4 limb coordination.

  • Thank you Bruno B. Cabrejos, for this amazing job of editing and putting these two greatest lyrical players together visually, for us!!! Brilliant idea!!! There will never be another Chet, there will never be another Paul!!!

  • aww man, this is something magical.

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • it sounds ok, 50% relaxing 50% nerv wrecking but i think thats just me being adhd! the audio however does not go along with the video that sucks...

  • the sound does not match the video.

  • There's no nothing like the Jazz, it captures the soul and the heart of all people. God bless the Jazz and all musicians that play it. Thanks to be.

  • Ya conocia la cancion, pero con este video la disfrute a lo Maximo ! EXCELENTE ,gracias

  • @momogar5 ¿Estás serio?

  • Nice, but there is no sync between the image and the music and one can hear a flute player that is never shown. Is this a real take or some "montage" with the song from the album "she was too good to me"? The musicians are never shown together... hmmm

  • excelent.. is the great!"!!

  • so nice! thank you

  • WHAT? AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just happened on this thing looking for Funny Valentine and . . . holy shit! This is one great vid. It has it all. Thanks for the post (18 months late -- ha!). I find Desmonds tone production to be singular -- to me it always speaks of big city melancholy, even when he's playing something whimsical.

  • Brilliant playing, regardless of the video being mismatched.

  • that's a Flugelhorn isn't it?

  • @clamideaa2z yep you right

  • steve Gaad on drums.-

  • this is not live but thanks for posting

  • Lol. Funny but stupid. This isn't real for anyone thinking it is. The Gadd video is off an in instructional vid and if Gadd and Baker had played together, he would've looked like the skeletal ghost/zombie man he did in the mid eighties before his death, not the fresh faced kid from the fifties in this vid. haaahaha

  • @bteniswood Well, success is just as dangerous if not even more than failure, I find it terrible that so many human beings slip into tasting heroin and end up losing all, destroying themselves and the people that surround them, their defeat by the demon of drugs is a defeat to us all, and if Chet still performed even when oh so sick was because music was his main love, it is so easy now to use that language to describe him, so cheap, we all lost something with him.

  • cunts

  • I'm surprised at the number of you that have commented and not said that this is among the worst videos ever posted. I am a musician and I love this music and all of these marvelous players, I am a huge fan of Cher Baker and Paul Desmond and this is lovely footage of Ron and Steve, BUT the guy who edited this piece obviously either hated this music or knew nothing about it, or both.

    John Sherwood, pianist from Canada.

  • I never knew Chet played flugelhorn. Cool. Sounds like Hubert Laws on flute. I wonder why the camera never catches him. And I too would like to know who that drummer is. Erskine possibly ? I agree with you greatdrbob about the downhill slide in music. Sad.

  • Chet Baker rocks!

  • nice

  • fabulous of course, but every shot of Steve Gadd is the SAME clip of two left hand high hat hits - after a few times it was so funny it was distracting!

  • when he was on song he is ther best as u can get.fabulous.

  • Paul Desmond is pretty good with the saxophone:)

  • Chet and Paul had a major influence on my music. I learned to embrace the critical notes, not the insignificant many. They are greatly missed, and now we have a downward spiral in musicianship....where a record "scratcher" is called an artist! Yikes! Rapper thugs, who can't sing, dance, dress, or play any instrument....are given awards as musicians. We're simply screwed by this trash.

  • Ottima formazione , grande standard e Chet Superlativo !!!!!

  • Chet did look a little better in 64. Could be the reason for the trickery. Very smooth and right in there.

  • there is two drummers...

  • Best version ever.

  • Fakie though nice...

  • Does anyone SEE the xylophone? I certainly HEAR one...,

    sweet vid though

  • this isnt a real video

  • @flurbaflurbs Why, they are not playing this piece?

  • @flurbaflurbs of course its a real video but I think you wanted to say that's not the appropriated video to the song...:)

  • @flurbaflurbs what you mean??

  • @flurbaflurbs but its a great track, does anything really matter?

  • @flurbaflurbs.Possibly not a real video, but the music is so good it is beyond real.

  • @flurbaflurbs What does that mean?

  • @flurbaflurbs I agree

  • @flurbaflurbs i was wondering where the flute player was

  • @flurbaflurbs you are right

  • @flurbaflurbs Maybe not, but the music is really terrific!

  • Autumn Leaves.......

  • ALSO...YOU hear the FENDER RHODES ALL over this trak...it WAS around in '74 but NOT in '64...SWEEEET!

  • A Classic !

  • this video is out of sync. And this take is on the record... not live like here , am i not right?

    Chet is great.

  • Yes it is REALLY out of sync: You HEAR Chet's trumpet from 1974 in a studio in NYC and SEE him with flugelhorn from 1964 in Belgium. Hubert Laws playin on flute. False video...but the music is just great!

  • I saw steve gadd in the fall of 2009, and i was really disepointed, actually. He was playing like a prog. rock drummer over well known standards, and I guess it was surpose to be a fresh blow, but it didnt apeall to me, even though I consider myself a more of a modern jazz guy, with the traditonal jazz as a fundation!

But here, he plays great!!!! I loved it!

  • This is Awesome! Great job! And I had no idea Steve Gadd & Ron Carter!!!

  • Hey man! Thats so cool thet you put a compilation of videos over the recording! Kudos. Great idea!

  • Chet and desmond a Jazz moment in time!

  • Brilliant video editing Bravo!

  • 1:40-44 in my opinion... is one of the best 4 seconds of groove in all of jazz..... the bass!

  • looks like there is a flute somewhere

All them are great. Isn't Steve Gadd the best drummer? He plays melodies.

  • too much yellow...

  • @peppesci87 Too much yellow? Could you explain to me what you mean by that ? :)

  • i'll explain it to you: too much heroin

  • Kings of Jazz, I wish Desmond could still be here.....those who never saw him live missed something that can never be replaced.

  • @trumpetchump thats why hes a legend

  • Um delírio!!Definitivo!!

  • Sencillez sin abigarramiento, es la clave de esta belleza.

  • splendid! =]

  • Beautiful!

  • semplicemente divino!
