  • I finally found it! This is one of my best and earliest memories of Sesame Street. The song is so darn catchy. Okay it does not make sense that a little girl (unaccompanied by an adult) would talk her llama to the dentist but so what?

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I still rememered this song and video after so many years! I really didn't expect to even find it!

  • This still baffles me, decades later...gotta love Sesame Street's creativity...but damn those furry goats, er Llama teeth look jacked up!

  • a llama is a great pet i love the song, me and my llama

  • I am from South America and moved to US 6 years ago, to my surprise I went to a parade and I saw a bunch of Llamas, y was like "What in the world??" then I found out that there are thousands of Llama farms all over the place, Anybody can tell me when Llamas started to populate in US?

  • I agree with sawing14s.

  • she and the llama have the same teeth.

  • I remember this like it was yesterday...now, I wonder how she was able to have a llama in the city...

  • i used to whistle this tune and had NO idea what I was singing!! OMG!

  • I remember watching this as a kid and asking those same questions. That llama still haunts me today.

  • Pause at 2:34...Jesus, that' is one set of ugly teeth! Did she get punched from some kid or suffer a kick to the mouth from her pet llama? Also, about her haircut - if it weren't for the girl narrating & talking to the dentist, I wouldn't have been able tell if she was a girl or boy.

  • Thank you for posting this. It's one of my all-time favorites from when I was a kid!

  • All hail the fucking Llama

  • You know I thought absolutely nothing of this when I was a kid.....now I'm 32 and realizing....this kid is somehow taking a llama to the dentist!

  • Wow, I thought I was the only one who never got this out of his head... I actually started spontaneously singing it when it came on.

I did not know that I knew the llama song lyrics.

  • The Dentist is the same guy from the ''Milk'' Video!!!!!

  • i have a pet llama! in England

  • 1) Who in Manhattan owns a llama as a pet?

    A) all those little yuppie asshole children whom get everything rich mummy and daddy will buy them ._.

  • lol 2:34, they kinda have the same problem going on with their teeth, no uppers and some funny looking bottom teeth ;)

  • Does anyone know where the lyrics to this is?

  • WTF? Llama? Really?

  • what gross teeth

  • I was singin this song to my husband and I thought I was going crazy cause I had no idea why I knew this song or where I had heard it. I thought it was another of my mom's songs that she made up when my brothers and I were kids but I googled it and I had to have been like 4 last time I heard it. that was 20 years go...wow...seseme street knows what they're doing!

  • MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SEASEM STREET VIDEO OF ALL TIME!!!!! Thank goodness for youtube.

  • I was obsessed with this video as a kid - and the song! Just came into my mind today and had to look for it.

    Bless you Sesame Street.

  • the llama looks like its left eye is blind or has a cataract.....surprised it didn't spit on the vet at all..

  • this video is a socialist plot to corrupt the minds of all freedom-loving americans.

  • exactly, you hit it right on the head

  • one of the llama's eyes is blue!

    david bowie llamaaaa

  • it's actually extremely common. even though the apartments are pretty small, i lived there for years, and i can assure you, tons of people have llamas as pets there.

  • That llama's got mad underbite.

  • Loved that video when I was a kid, and I just let my son watch it for the first time. Thanks for posting it!

  • me too.. i'm 26 years old and of all the old school sesame street songs i remember this one the most and i cant even tell you why lol i guess because like the video info said... i wondered who in the world would own a LLAMA in the city and why the girl didnt have a grown up with her! Llamas can be pretty moody and she isnt exactly what one would consider strong lol

  • David Lynch made a horrible joke about this during an episode of Twin Peaks. Anyway, that's the way I interpreted the whole "Lydecker" affair, aside from the joke about the Gene Tierney flick.

  • I use to make fun of the song here when I was a kid. Instead of 'llama' I use to say 'mama'.

  • Aw, I remember this! Thanks for the memories!

  • dude, me n my llama r sooo tight

  • Hahah at the end as she's walking there is a lady in a tan coat that totally does a double take like "WTF?"

  • How many people have pet llamas in New York City?

  • The llama's teeth look better than the mullet girl.

  • even llamas know jewish dentists are the best!

  • Yes llamas don't wear pajamas. But you try to rhyme llama no other words make sence.

  • *shivers* dentist tools. lol

    I remember this song too!

  • LMAO, for some reason I got this song in my head today (happens every few years) so I decided to check Youtube. Haha, amazing how much of the song I remember, since I haven't heard it since it came out on Sesame Street. :P

  • that thing had to reek

  • Okay, I have been looking for this video forever!!!!!!! I can't believe I found it when I wasn't even looking for it!!! I told my mom about this recently and she thought I was nuts! I can't wait to show her! So awesome!

  • Wow that brought back some old childhood memories.

  • I loved this when I was a little girl...I totally wanted a llama!

  • ...good llama :) strange video

  • Day..hey..hey...hey....this was my joint! da..da...da...da... I didn't even know what a Llama was...but I wanted one so I could take it to the dentist

  • That llama looks like a girl I used to date in NYC...same teeth. Oy.

  • im laughing my ass off right now

  • oh my gosh, every time i hear this, the song gets stuck in my head and i never can get it out even after i listen to radio, haha :)

  • This is clearly some outer borough shit, like those social maladroits that have trouble holding down a job but have a flock of 200 pigeons in cages on the roof.

  • when ever i saw this. even as a kid. i silently wished that llama would spit right in the dentists face...

  • This was one of my favourite Sesame Street clips as a child. Watching it again now that I'm older, the first thing that comes to mind is that the vet is lucky the llama didn't spit at him. It seems to be very well behaved!

  • i totally remember this. I had no idea what a llama was and it's teeth freaked me out.

And now I watch it wondering who on earth has a llama as a pet. Especially in NY City. LOL

  • Ha! I remember this from the mid-70s when I was little! I think it was the first time I ever heard of a llama.

I hope the girl and the llama don't have the SAME dentist. That would be just...weird.

  • i remember this song! i still think of it, whenever I someone mentions a llama. i saw mike rowe fix a llama's teeth on Dirty Jobs... LOL it was too perfect.

  • @ redheaven17 - me too!!! A Llama can't be mentioned without my brain reverting to this song. It's tripped out that some things from childhood just stick with you for the rest of your life.

  • Some guy in NYC had a tiger in his apartment and every few years some guy in some building is busted for having a mini farm with goats, sheep, chicken, etc... Completely plausible in pre-Bloomberg NYC.

  • Mullets Galore

  • this is my fondest sesame street memory. I'm 27 now and for some reason i still remembered all the lyrics...but i always thought she was a he. Oops.

  • same here~ she a he~

  • I don't think llamas go to dentists for real, do you?

  • I loved this video when I was a kid! All I kept thinking was, "What freakin' kid has a llama in New York City??!?! " (And "where the heck did they keep it?" )

  • My dentist is usually a bit less casual about the whole thing when I bring MY llama in. Guess it's not cute anymore when you're twenty.

  • Uh do you have the clip of the little girl going to the eye doctor?

  • none of the kids of sesame street have parents

  • This girl has the ultimat mullet!!!!

  • LOL!!! Yes..it's quite a surprise when she takes off her cardigan. At first sight it appears to be a regular bowl cut.

  • That haircut is technically a shag, mullets didn't come into fashion until the 80's and were much shorter on top.

  • ah would they not give the poor child any teeth at a discount for bringing in the llama

  • i remember drawing a face on a helium filled balloon and walking around with it and calling it my llama. i always thought i was an insane child, but after watching this video it all makes sense! hahahaha.

  • I remembered the title to this song about 15 years after last hearing it . . . thanks for posting this clip.

  • The overbearing cougar standing off camera miming the little girl's acting would be her mother.

  • Shouldn't that llama be accompanied by a diaper?

  • It's perfectly ok for the girl to be without parental supervision because anyone walking a llama down the streets of Manhattan is going to attract enough attention & stares that no one is gonna mess with her.

  • I wish I could do this with my Llamas. But that is not necessary because their teeth are still clean. Great video, nice song!

  • that llama is dead now.

  • Oh, I always loved this video, too! This song would always get stuck in my head over the years, but I never remembered all the words. Great memories.

  • Ok, I wonder how many kids back then were begging their parents for a llama lol.

  • I remember this song from years ago! Yeah, it gets stuck in my head from time to time, glad I found it here. Means I didn't make it up :)

  • I'm guessing this girl is perhaps from a farm or animal sanctuary in upstate New York. Of course, if that's the case, who knows how she got the llama down to Manhattan by herself...

  • she's being accompanied by a parent... the lama LOL

  • man the old sesame street was awesome!

    brings back good memories :)

    thanks for posting

  • thats gotta be one NAST apartment

  • I also get that song stuck in my head. Which is how I just found it on YouTube! Thanks for posting it.

  • I'd love to see that llama spit in the dentist's face if he hurt him with that drill!

  • I think she looks like Alicia Morton from 1999 Annie.

  • Wow, I had this song stuck in my head all day and I finally found it! I also always sing this song and everyone thinks I'm crazy. It really seems like Sesame Street really touched us all. Amazing. It makes me sad my kids won't have such awesome stuff to watch on TV

  • This song STILL plays in my head! LOL!:)

    Thanks for posting this!

  • I get this song in my head all the time! And no one ever knows wth im talkin about. Thanks for posting! Now I can prove I didn't make this up.

  • Great childhood memory...however I aways thought the Llama was odd having two different colored eyes! And my other thought...where does one keep a Llama in the city??

  • I should have my llama's teeth cleaned soon!!!! jk

  • i still get this song stuck in my head- thank you for posting!!

  • This skit almost literally killed me as a child. The first time I saw it was in '79, when I was about 7. I loved the sketch so much that when WNET ran the rerun of the episode on Saturday morning, I nearly electorcuted myself plugging in the little 12" black & white set in my room (a spark flew out of the outlet). I jumped, my father walked by and yelled, "Vut deh hell ar you doink?" But I survived and got to watch the sketch again.

This song is one of my favorites. Bizarre, yet brilliant.

  • "Vut deh hell ar you doink??" LOL :-)

  • this changed my life

  • so glad you posted... i was talking to friends about this and nobody remembered it!! i thought i remembered wrong... but i didn't!!!

  • yes, it's just my llama and me.

  • I used to love this when i was little!

  • thats one well behaved llama

  • I <3'd this as a kid!

  • that is one ugly bastard...i meant the llama lol

  • it wouldve been GREAT to see the llama spit on her

  • Is that a young Michael Bloomberg cleaning those llama teeth?

  • Oh yeah, I can picture the tweakers at 2am in the morning digging "Me and my Llama!"

  • there has to be some sort of city ordinance she's violating here!

  • LOL

35 years ago, you could probably walk a pet tiger on the city streets.

  • Why were their cats in the the dentist office? Was he really a vet or or something?

  • i can see why someone would take a llama to the dentist

  • lol who DOESNT take their llama to the dentist? lol

  • God bless teh internets

  • I love this song.. although now that I'm older I find it odd that she had a llama as a pet, not to mention in the city? How do rent an apartment with that sort of animal?

  • I WANT IT I WANT IT!!!

  • Oohhhh my sister and I always loved this one!!! We always sang along!!!

  • I Loved it. Thank you so much!!!

  • That little girl looks terrified

  • My children, now adults in their 30's still call me Mama Llama. :-)

  • I really wish I could find this song without the talking and the sound effects. I love this song, but that pick scraping the teeth drives me crazy!

  • This little girl's hair is beyond fantastic...one of my all time faves

  • I'm gett'n a lama !

  • my sister and i used to sing this to my mom, changing the words to 'me and my mama' until she would go insane. good times. also, that is one bitchin' mullet that little girl is sporting! takes me back!

  • My funny little sister used to sing this tune when she was a toddler, only she'd sing "Me and my llama, we ate our pajamas!" and then laugh herself silly.

    Good song, good memories.

  • I'm so happy that this is on here. I knew that I wasn't imagining this segment. Not one of my friends remember seeing this. Pop Quiz. What is the name of the llama in the movie Napoleon Dynamite?

  • Yes, me too! I thought I'd somehow made this whole thing up...glad it's true.

  • TINA, great movie!!!

  • you don't need parental supervision when you have your llama with you :P

  • OMG LMAO!!!

    "Two questions:

    1) Who in Manhattan owns a llama as a pet?

    2) Shouldn't this girl be accompanied by a parent?"

U know i was thinking the same thing but when i was a little girl!! OMG u just made my day with that one!!

  • Well, the girl obviously isn't alone. There would be a cameraman and maybe a director there. But I guess the reason for portraying the girl as being alone is so that little kids can fantasize about having their own pet llama (I know I certainly did after watching this clip when I was a kid!). Showing an adult there would kind of spoil things for a kid's imagination. If you haven't noticed, there are a lot of kids movies and TV shows which portray kids in roles normally played by adults.

  • OMG I remember this!!! I wanted a llama after i seen this!! And I still want one!!

  • For some reason, this is one of those that I'll always remember from when I was a kid watching Sesame Street. I always liked this one ... it's special. Dunno why, but it sticks out in those early years.

  • OMG, it's still as good as it was 25 years ago!

  • I still sing this silly song. I alway wondered how a kid can keep a lama in NY

  • I know right

  • I still get this song in my head from time to time. Something that stood out from my childhood,I guess. I've tried contacting CTW, PBS, and even TV Land with ideas of them doing a retro channel of PBS shows (from 1960's, 70's, 80's, and some 90's). PBS said they only hold program rights for 3 years and it was the local public stations' choice as to what they wanted to buy and air. Haven't heard anything from the others yet. Be nice if more people contacted these places. Might get things rolling.

  • prior to "the N," the nickelodeon-owned offshoot network 'noggin' used to show classic sesame streets over night. now that the N is its own separate network, noggin *should* be free to do this again... however at 4am, what are they playing, gullah gullah island(?)... sad. they should really go back to that classic overnight programming...

  • Also, Thank you for posting this skit. Good times, good memories.

  • I sooo remember this. My parents taped several Sesame Street episodes from the time I was born in 1979 to I think the I was about 7 and they would have my sister and I watch them back to back. Because Sesame Street often used stock footage and because the episodes we watched were taped I can never pin point what year a skit is from. I wish my parents had kept those old tapes, because I now have a 10 month son and would prefer for him to watch the old Sesame Street.

  • I am so glad that this is on you tube! Every once in a while this song (at least the part about the llama going to the dentist today) gets stuck in my head for a day. I was hoping it would be on here to see how the rest of the song goes-too funny. Sesame Street classic.

  • Hmmmm!

  • How random... I love random..

  • Because taking the llama to the dentist is such an every day activity, one must write a song about it... Is the singer rejoicing that perhaps it's her pet that is having pointy objects shoved in her mouth as opposed to her?

  • Because every New York kid would have a farm animal as a pet. There are laws I'm sure....:o)

  • OMG, this is why I ended up being a stoner, thanks CTW!!!

  • Funny, I totally accepted this scenario as normal when I was a kid.

Was this song written before this was filmed, or was it written for this sketch? Hmmm...

Nice memory either way, thanks for posting

  • anyone else notice how the dental assistant looks like he's supressing being freaked out alltogether :P

  • me and my llama ^^

  • Are Llamas covered under basic dental?????

  • i thought Nickki was the little girl...it was the Llama.

  • I always thought the girl looked like a Nicki, but that's probably because she mentioned the llama's name as Nicki and I associated them together (seeing as I was four or five when this segment first aired)

  • Holy cow! I haven't seen this one since 1986. I was 5 years old then...

  • hmm... upon inspection this particular llama seems to have a bit of an under bite but um, that's perfectly alright with me.

  • SO CLASSIC! I LOVE THIS SONG!

  • classic. one of my favorites when I was a kid.

  • I sing this song ALL THE TIME still! By the way, who lives in the city and has a llama anyways? Didn't seem so strange when I was little though.

  • Wheres this llama today? And that girl? Is that vet still practicing? Who sang that song? I would like some followup answers to this.

  • I had no idea llamas were such patient patients. :)

  • why is this little girl walking by herself where is her parents lol

  • The llama is her legal gaurdian...

  • That made me laugh at 2 am. Thats awesome.

  • Memories!!

  • OMG - This is classic SS at its finest! I used to sing this song all the time when I was little!

  • hey what rhymes with llama...? OH duh pajamas! yeah put that in there...

that vet looked freaked out lol

  • The line about pajamas doesn't really make sense anyway, for several reasons (for instance, how do you "jump out of your pajamas"?) It would have been more logical to rhyme it with the word "mama" (i.e. "Me and my llama, I'm like her mama", or if the llama is indeed her legal guardian like some people have mentioned, "she's like my mama".) Then again, like some people have mentioned, this whole segment didn't really make sense, but it's a kid's show, so...

  • I believe the lyrics are actually "just out of our pajamas". In other words, they've gone to the vet first thing in the morning, right after they've woken up.

  • Still doesn't make sense, namely because llamas don't wear pajamas.

Besides Pajamas doesn't really rhyme with llama. Nope, something with Mama would have been more logical, but seeing as I don't watch Sesame Street anymore, I guess it doesn't really matter.

  • This is the weirdest thing ever. Man, Sesame Street used to be *so* good.

  • HAHAHA OH damn! I remeber this video and I still sing this song... well just the part that I could remember which was just "me and my llama" over and over again. hahaha ya it is kinda weird now watching it now as a grown up but it brought back memories. I still want a llama.

  • oh my gosh, I love this video! I still sing that song whenever anyone talks about llamas, or going to the dentist for that matter. I don't remember thinking this was that strange when I was little, but boy is it weird! Absolutely hilarious!

  • a classic, this is one of my fav videos

  • tina you fatlard come get some dinner!

  • Eat some ham!

  • the "strangest" thing about this one (besides the obvious) is probably them going to the basement of a brownstone in Brooklyn. Never caught that before...

  • 3) why is the girl's hair so oddly shaped?

    4) why is there like, no one on the street?

    5) who in the WORLD would write and sing a song about llamas!?

  • i used to have a toy lamb that i would drag around the house singing this song. my mother thought the name of the lamb was wee nam nama until my late 20s until i explained this to her, because that's how "me and my llama" came out of my 3-year-old mouth.

  • ''oo ee'' That sounds like to eat. Because we don't go to the dentist to eat. And we don't go to the restaurant to get our teeth cleaned. And how you tell that's Dolly ?

  • I am so jealous of this kid.

  • lol i love llamas
