  • walking the promenade .sheepskincoat tightly wrapped after a night in the highland room pure xtc

  • Reckon Junior is busy playing his sax and the angels are enjoying it.Junior RIP.

  • power of sax

  • I used to walk past a house at the end of my street, no, wait a minute... I would "find" a reason to walk past this house at the end of my street because a really cool woman lived there and would always be playing great records from her bedroom window, i used to fantasize about her being an Air Line Stewardess, or something glamorous like that, it was the mid seventies and i had all those pent up hormones of a 15 year old boy but the overriding memory is great music from that bedroom window ....

  • for me it was on Radio Luxemburg about 1966....& then seeing him & the All Stars live August 1968 @ the Twisted Wheel Club - Whitworth Street, Manchester...bring it on

  • love junior walker brings back so many memories as a child in the late 60s and early seventies just love the whole tamla sound it dont get better than this

  • love this tune waaaaaay to much! luckily i grew up in a household of top quality music heads...dad was a jazz n soul man...mother was into hot pants and james brown...other mother loved nancy wilson and carol king ...my sister loved the jackson 5 n my brother who was rebellious listened to reggea music ... and me ? i was the soulful little runt who soaked it all up...i'm blessed!

  • Top tune

  • No words...just goosebumps.

  • @fatty28uk You got THAT right. Jam on Mr. Walker.....we still miss him.... : )

  • A real classic, remember 1972, disco SHAFT in Heist aan Zee (Belgium).

    Those were the days !

  • this reminds me of the night train journeys i used to take a lot in the mid to early 80s, i would arrive at my destination late at night with a deserted platform station not a person in sight just the street lights.

  • This tune reeks of sex , when i was young allthe pubs and fairgrounds played this ... god i love this tune ..

  • i was about 14 when this song came out, and my dad had a little hole in the wall club and i used to peep into the joint and watch the people dance to this. it was a number one hit in the south on all the juke boxes. jr walker could really blow that sax. thanks for the wonder memories, this is a timeless classic

  • This is so cool, it could freeze the Sun; I bought this as a'45, from a second hand shop, thirty years ago, and it's a wonderful piece of timeless art; KTF....

  • Wow.....this was the song of songs for me. Thanks for the memories.

  • One of Jrs all time greats. It was smooth and relaxing especially with your lady with black lights glowing, a bottle of lambrusco, and the herb was serious.

  • I SAW JUNIOR AT STRETFORD TOO,HE BLEW THE AUDIENCE AWAY THAT NIGHT,WAS IT CALLED THE HARDROCK,I THINK IT IS B&Q NOW,ONE OF MY BEST CONCERTS

  • They used to play this when transmissions broke down at Granada TV in Manchester in the 70's.That's how I got to like it!

  • @JFBridge

No way!!!! I was about to post the same comment, word for word! Charles Foster apologising for the break in transmission & if the programme was shite hoping it would not come back on for a while, so we could hear this top tune!

  • You can buy sheet music for this song at saxsolos(dot)com i dont know how to say this isn't a joke lol but you can legit buy music there for a variety of saxophones for like .50 cents a page

  • I cant find this video on my iphone

  • Battle Creek Mi. is near the southern border of Michigan about 50 miles from Lk. Michigan. I met jr. Walker in a Mercedes Benz dealership where I worked. I sold him a new M.B. and we became friends. As you said he was a very nice man. He past away in 1995. He had several automobiles. One was gold Caddilac with a Rolls Royce type grill, He was a real automobile fan. One of the places we used to meet was for breakfast at a local diner .

  • i am not a motown fan but this is one of the best tunes ever

  • i knew Jr. Walker and he was a gentleman. His given name was Autry Dewalt and he lived in Battle Creek Michigan. He is missed!

  • @meexchsfme

Wow you knew him........ I saw him twice in england and once in Germany back in the seventies. At the Feista Club in Sheffield England he remember us from a previous tour he'd made and invited us to join him back stage... what a nice guy he was. I listen to his music all the time 'these Eyes' my favourite........ Where is battle creak.. I would love to go there some time

  • top sax

  • Yes dude!

  • Smooth and rich like that fat brown '71 Sedan Deville I saw a few days ago...:)

  • saw junior at the newcastle mayfair 1978 wish somebody could invent a time machine

  • There is another song that came out around 2000 titled Midnight In Manhattan by Peter White. It sounds almost the same.

    Bobby h

  • my big brother i used to "walk in the night" ..that was the best time to steal cars

  • I had an 8 track of this song. Well, you know after time it disintegrates. This song reminds me of Longwood College, Nags Head, N.C. the Casino in Nags Head, Jockey Ridge and singing with the Casino Band. Summer after a full load at college with my girlfriends, letting loose. I find it sexy also.

  • @jetsetwm one of the happiest years of my life at college

  • Wow! It takes me back to my teens. Growing up in Philly, one of the coldest tunes I've ever heard!

  • This sexy sax classic is up there with "Gotta be funcky" by the late great Monk Higgins.

Brings back so many 70s memories

    Bobby H

  • I'd completely forgotten about this song... brings back some fab memories, thanks so much for posting this :)

  • Makes you feel so 1970s ! Fabulous !

  • Great sweet soul from one of Motown's more under rated artists. Possibly more popular here in the UK than at home?

  • This song is just dripping in sex........oh my

  • One of the best songs of all time!!!

  • Takes me back to watching closedown on Granada TV in the 70s. Just after 'Barney Miller'. Lovely.

  • This was my man's best effort and this dude did a whole lot for Motown. Go brother, go. I miss you still. Listen to the chorus in the background and his improvs with that saxophone. He was really cooking. Where's the party at! I invite you to come on and take a listen. Thanks so much for this post. Haven't heard it in so long!

  • I recently took up saxophone but listening to this I think I'll sell it and just buy Junior walker records. I'll never be this good.

  • This is a sensuous piece of music, and it is country gentlemanly, too. Jr walker has become more refined in this piece. I love it.

  • One of my all-time Top 10 instrumentals. Pure class from a great artiste. Wonderful.

  • @1408alan I have to give you a 10-4 on that. Pure class is right with just the right elements of chorus and beat....should be a beautiful skating song for those who still skate : )

  • I love it, there was always something just a little bit different about JW's music.

(yes the sax !) & I always looked forward with anticipation to his albums coming out. Still got 'em after all these years. Motowns finest !

  • heavenly got all his albums...

  • Jr Walker and his sax and voice are amazing just listen to his catalogue of tunes, the guy is awesome! I just love this tune as well, what a chill out driving tune late at night, on your own in the dark, it just gets you where you want to be, hard to explain, but just a great instrumental

  • makes me jump up and dance

  • i though roadrunner was great....but this is even better

    true class

  • Junior Walker was one of the all time great sax players and sang his ass off! Check out his catalog, you will enjoy it.

    LoveLyric101

  • I'm glad I found this. Although Paul Hardcastle has this same tune out, I like Jr Walker's version better - cause it was here FIRST!

  • Paul Hardcastle isn't fit to clean JW's Sax

  • In your opinion You may be right. I grew up listen'n to JW, and now all the wanna be musicians try to remake their sounds. This one sounds pretty good. I dig Sax players.

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

  • Great tune, nice chillout music. Absolute classic

  • Brilliant! One of the best ever! Thanks

  • I think this track had the longest intro in 1972. Always a floorfiller at the clubs.

Junior has that magical touch with the saxophone which sounds fantastic.

    Nice posting and 5 stars...

  • here here... couldn't agree more... excellent track..

  • Smooth as Silk !

  • great under-rated song

  • one of my favorite Motown songs, I could probably listen to it on loop forever. too bad it's not as well known as it should be.

  • thanx a lot the 1972 hit was released as a maxi single and went on to become one of motown's best song

  • Choon!

  • Not for a moment do you miss a lead vocal. The sax is the most supple of instruments and the nearest to a human voice.

  • This track absorbs you totally from the second it starts to the end of the fade. magical..

  • My thoughts exactly...has you straight away...

  • thanks for this , i forgot all about this piece. it reminds me of the change this country was going though, the viet nam war , blacks no longer colored ha and the revolutionary change of thought. that's history. thanks again

  • Great Sax and other sounds too.

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting this lovely music.

    RIP Junior Walker

  • I still have the original 45 which cost me my lunch money. That's how I saved up to buy my 45's! Love the sax!

  • i love this 45 and have done ever since i was a kid growing up in the 80s where it was on one of my dad's compilations. i now have the purple label US pressing on 'soul" records. it's been played more times than i care to remember. thanks for posting - it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

  • A beauty!!!

  • Classic Jr !!!,.ktf.

  • Took the words out of my mouth Bob lol!

  • Timeless Motown classic...just gorgeous

  • my favourite instrumental

  • Memory lane :) Still sounds fab each & every time i hear it!

  • I can't believe that I'm hearing this! I don't even remember what was on the other side of the 45. All I can remember was turning it over to hear what the other side had to offer, and this was it. Takes me back to my days growing up in Mowtown. Cheers, my brother
