I paid that for a new 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback GTS with CVT, climate control, 18" Enkei alloys, etc... Its a damn nice car with good looks. Can't imagine getting saddled with this thing for the same price I paid for the Mitsu. Crazy.
Meh...I drove one (don't own one) to Wisconsin Dells (159mi from home) two weeks ago and while I agree the ride is harsh, it's certainly not as bad as Mr. Jackson says it is. My only true concern is how the semi tractor's wind draft pushes you away when you're trying to blow past one at 80+mph.

I disagree with all the comments in this video. I've driven this car in Europe and although it's not a good fit for the US it's a pretty fast car. It will accelerate like a motorbike because of it's small weight. The main advantage is it's very small size and this is why it's very popular in Europe where parking space is a problem. i could put that FUGLY thing in the bed of my truck and 4 people in the cab and get 15 mpg, that equate to 75 mpg on the highway ! ( 5ppl x 15mpg)+ FUGLY car in the bed = 75mph
this is the worst car of 2011. ride is horrible, mileage sucks especially when you can get a honda civic or (i hate these but still better than a smart) the toyota prius. price is huge for that POS. looks are bad, and people won't like you.
this car has less than 1/3 the horse power of my regular 4 door family car ( 3.8L V6 ) but its gas mileage is only about 12 more miles a gallon than my car, this car has too many set backs for me to consider, maybe if it got as many miles to the gallon as the Prius then I may consider it, oh and it would also have to be considerably cheaper since you are getting less of a car.

Gas mileage is understated on the Civic (my brother gets 45 mpg on his) and even so, a car with a 1 liter 3-cylinder should get way better gas mileage than 33/41. Civic HP: 140. Smart HP: 70. Not to mention the warranty on the Civic is better in every way (not that you'd need it). Smart is, and always will be, a waste. And if being smart and not buying into the small car hype makes me American, thank you.

@koltenk17 *facepalm* No. The pure is $11k and gas mileage is understated on every car but fact is if both drivers maintain the same style then Fortwo gets better mileage. Bhp is just a number were as horsepower per tonne matters most. It's the measurement of how much hp the car really gets. U do have the warranty but thats it. Smart is the future as it follows the most sensible keijidōsha regulations. Any average car that doesn't follow that is basically crap including the civic.

Impossible, Smart drivers always drive safely so it'll always have higher mileage then said. More Volume is not always better. Fewer seats? U probably have a family then. By insulting Smart, you've basically insulted Mercedes, Europe, and Japan.

This car is absolutely terrible, fit and finish is horrible, the ride is un bearable, its noisy, its not fun to drive, the millage is not competitive, and for some reason it takes premium fuel! Only reason to buy it is if you like the looks, and I certainly don't!
