  • @HiccupQueen

    Ha!

  • i saw this a while ago and now I get hiccups all the tme, it must b e a mindset. Thanks vern!! :-) hope you are well. Amanda.

  • Oh Amanda...I hope I wasn't the reason for your hiccups! Ha! THEY ARE ANNOYING! I am doing very well and the hiccups went away after 3 days. :)

  • Hey Vern! Your video was adorable! I get the hiccups too...and it is annoying but you're right, it's funny! Hope you're having a great weekend!!

  • Yes I am having a great weekend Lauren. Thanksgiving was great (especially because I finally got over the hiccups!). Take care Lauren!

  • Hey Vern,

Alright I'm going to tell you what works for me everytime.

Next time you get hiccups stiff some pepper. One or two big sneezes and they should be gone.

  • Ha! I never tried that, but, next time...

  • yeah! i have it very often, but it's not connected to ms for me. i have just very sensitive diaphragm:)

    See U

  • Your right it is kind of funny! Hope they are gone---good day

  • Hi Vern, Yes kinda funny and sometimes we just have to laugh at our MS issues, I get a hicup yelp! Its not constant as yours, but out of the blue at least 3 to 5 times a day I get this loud hic up that sounds like a hyenna yelp?? only way I know how to describe it LOL it makes my sister laugh, and yes it seems to be more active after an infusion! best to you!

  • Hey Vbeachy. I've yet to have the problem with the hiccups. I know, now I will right?:) I admire you for being a soldier and keeping a smile on your face about it. It shows strong character I'm still learning to have. If you haven't guessed, I was diagnosed not all that long ago(relative to the symptoms). Keep the smile and sense of humor. It certainly helps me.

  • Yes, you probably jinxed it. :)

I am glad I have helped...hang in there! I am sure you are stronger than you think!

  • hihi. i have it only, if i do not sit straight up while eating. all the best to you. hiccc...

  • Thanks.

  • Haha :) Hope everything is well!

  • Thanks Anna. :)

  • i get the hiccups all the time. it sucks. its hard for me to get rid of them. i hold my breath as long as possible to get rid of them

  • From what I gather, Tommy, and I could be wrong, but these are MS-related hiccups and that may be a little bit different. Hmmm

  • I used to get them (hiccoughs) but I learned a cool trick. DO the following. Say, "I will not hic anymore. I will not hic anymore I will not hic anymore (then without taking a breath) swallow 3 times. It is very hard to swallow the 3rd time and that is when the hiccoughs end. Also if you hiccough whilst you are doing this start over. It works 100% of the time for me. GOOD LUCK Mark p.s. I am not having a piss with you.
  • LOL. I will try it. :)

  • Hi Vern, I know exactly what you're talking about. I constantly tell people I have the hiccups and I'm not drunk.

  • That works for me!

  • I had hiccups whenever I had to get decadron or solumedrol -- I just had to keep drinking water upside down -- it is weird and hard to do but that is what worked for me -- hope that helps -- get well soon with your cold and hiccups at least :-)

  • Thanks Brandi!

  • I never get hiccups!!!...I have a ton of a spams in my stomach...but I don't think that counts!!!

I never get hiccups and I hope that I won't get them if they lasts for a very long time.

I think it's great that you laugh about it! and it's nice that you find it funny! :)

Have a great evening and good luck with the hiccups!!!

    Angela

  • Thanks Angela!

  • G'day Vern, my Neuro explained to me that it can be an MS symptom for sure - I have a myoclonic jerk which is in a similar 'family' to hiccups but is like a hiccup in my shoulder (that is the best way to describe it!). Sadly I have tried 3 meds and nothing has helped (10 mths later! Doesn't happen in my sleep either) I think you have to laugh - or else you go crazy!! Or maybe laughing about it is crazy? lol. Either way hope it clears up quickly. Kerri

  • Ikay, Kerri; I am wondering if it was funny that I had the hiccups, or the fact that I did a video about it and uploaded it to YouTube. Ha!

  • Hi Vern, Hmmm didn't know hiccups was/can be related to MS. I sometimes get them too, but not often. I also watched one of your old videos about shingles, now I've had those a couple times and I knw they're related to MS and damaged nerve paths. I releave the pain from shingles by slapping the area where the shingle bumps are. Yes your hiccups are kinda funny....LOL

  • Hmmm...interesting about shingles. I have, mainly, numbness now where the shingles bumps were.

  • Hi Vern,

I do get the hiccups but mostly if I have alcohol wine in particular.

My friend has a way of getting rid of them for me and I found that I could do it myself.

It is a bit strange and can be scary, but she comes behind me and puts her hand over my mouth and pinches my nose closed. The key is to relax, because you can't breath, but it does work.

I know do it to myself if I get them really bad.

    Strange but true

    Andrea

  • I'm killing myself laughing,,,I'm so sorry, that's not nice...

    I can't listen anymore...ROFL

    Sandy

  • LMA(hic)O

  • I'm on Solu-Medrol right now and I have the hiccups bad too. it hurts and makes typing hard .. had a cold also, funny how your videos always pertain to my current situations..

  • Ironic, eh? As soon as the steroids started to drip I got hiccups...bad. :)

  • Yep, I've had this too. For a week! Thankfully they stopped at night - then started straight again with my morning cup of tea...

Anyway, my doc gave me some pills and they cleared up. Sorry, I can't remember the name, but they were sedatives.

He told me it's an unusual MS symptom, but not very unusual. He said something about spasticity of the diaphragm.

  • Yep...not a peep at night, but they start right away in the morning. Depakote is what I got for them.

  • I get hiccups all the time! I'm amused by them, until my chest starts hurting.

I've tried many things to get rid of them, drinking water, holding my breath, using sugar, etc. However, nothing seems to work on them and they go away when they are good and ready. :P

  • Then it's not JUST me. Ha! Yes, they crack me up until it starts to hurt. :)
