She didn't do it out of attention, the speech was given to year 7 monte students and parents at a welcome dinner. Many parents and principles from other schools commended her speech, and from this the media became interested and therefore ASKED HER to give an interview, this is not seeking attention nor is it publicity stunt on her behalf. Her intention was never for this speech to be outside of monte, but due to a well written speech the media is attracted to her ideas out of the norm.
People that do things like this... Do it out of attention. They want to be different... and the only way the can stand out from the crowd is to do something that brings attention onto themselves...like this. Also not sure what this school is like.... but at my school the "captain" wasn't the most popular person... It was the opinionated nerd that got voted in.

and chosing to communicate with her friends face to face rather than through an anti-social medium how does that make her a social reject? in my opinion it makes her more socially aware!
