@elgatonyc I'm sure Its been "called" hip hop earlier than that. People were just saying "I wanna hear a rap record." And they play rap on this station." Because back then...hip hop meant ALL apects of the culture. People would back then, would see a crew break dancing and all that...and think"hip hop" and since rap was the most profitable aspect of hip hop culture, it took off. Hip hop could NEVER fall UNDER "rap". Hip hop created rap.
