I think I might have said this before, butoh well, once more doesn't hurt.

I think this version is superior to the original. I've been a fan for far too many years now, and I love the original, but this is just more experimental, and I like that. I would like to hear them do this even stranger. But I'm more of an experimental-music kinda-guy than a metalhead.

The fact that Dir en grey makes something that isn't straight-forward-metal, that's great for me. The weirder they get, the better for me.

@DJSinisterMetal Well in my OPINION, Obscure (2011) sounds better. It places more emphasis on Kyo and their new metal sound. Besides, they only rerecorded Obscure for experimentation. Similar to their experimentation with the entire Dum Spiro Spero album.

Their performances at smaller venues are usually better compared to large festivals, with the exception of Budokan in 2010.. Performance @ WOA 2011 = complete suck. I've seen live videos of it online, and they completely bombed..

@blackwingangel04 I read (a long while ago... so this is heavily paraphrased) that kyo wanted to either do something with the vocal space he had, and put more/less vocals, so that it gave the song a different feel.

This could be wrong, but if you look into it, im sure you'll find it.

The way I see it is, this is what they thought, You perform the old one over and over again for every tour, and you know people love the song, so instead of SHELVING it, they made it new and exciting and we all know it's going to sound amazing live, SO WHATS THE PROBLEM? @chrul80 i think its better to think of it as the songs are just different compared to the originals. i like them, they have similar elements, but theyre morphed, not depreciated. its just reapplied to a different style of music. orig. obscure was WAY SPACEY. but this is more hardcore. zan was really out there with the vocals and riffs, kinda like how tsumi to batsu was, but then they reapplied it to a different, more focused and driving theme. and dont diss the kyo! gotta agree hes sexy bothway

I love this Obscure a bit more than the original for its raw and intense sound. It is definitely a song you can go apesh!t to in a live. Vulgar Obscure will still be a favorite since it more artistically complex and more perfect in a sense compared to this version. Awesome job Dir en grey!!

This version is going to be beautiful when played live.

Something people dont see is that when you scream, after a while hitting high notes becomes really hard, thus some of those off note Obscure performances of Kyo on youtube.

But this new version is lower so succesfully performing it with the screams is easier

But I do understand what you're saying. Though, every album is different, this one seems to be very distinctly different from what I've heard them to be throughout the years. Their tune, style, what the lyrics are about, quite a bit.

The original was more "understandable" in terms of rhythm and some other things which I don't know how to explain. This song is simply just hardcore but the original had much more artistic value in my opinion.

If I was to use a painting as a metaphor, the original was like a combination of surrealism and abstract, and this one looks like an awkward abstract painting.
