Best decision i ever made.....im excited and glad im going to boot camp but like everyone else im a little nervous too, i knew what i signed up for and i know what i am required to do....but yea im just a little nervous, mostly excited though, im glad i made this decision i ship out to Basic Combat Training on January 9. If you want to serve in a branch of the armed forces that has a high degree of military professionalism, DO NOT join the national guard. The NG primarily consists of "soldiers" who are either on profile, (meaning they aren't worth a shit physically), old or just plain complacent. At times I feel like people that work at McDonalds have a higher sense of professionalism than the majority of national guard "soldiers" do.

There is no such thing as 'National Guard basic training' It's just Army basic training. I'm in the national guard in an infantry unit and just graduated from Fort Benning.

The Army National Guard was the first military branch of the United States. It was set up before there was even an America. It's the oldest, it has the most tradition. In fact the Army reserve and the National Guard have the highest troop count in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Plus the National guard also has the highest sacrifice in Afghanistan with 153 deaths. @williamLongino The National Guard is A reserve component of the Army. Just like the Army Reserves. The only major differences are that the National Guard is payed by the state and the reserves are payed by the Federal govt. The Guard does state missions and has combat arms both unlike the reserves. So yes Fucking really!

my brother when he was is in training for national guard he had to simulate guard duty, at night, with a ouple of buddies with him and i believe a patrol of 60 men, some guys had dress up like terrorists and start an attack and as my brother was about to fall asleep the attack began, he and his squad held out long enough firing their m4s' until the patrol came back, then the entire squad charged the terrorist down a hill screaming and doing war cries the drill sargeant got so pumped up by this

@jdog24331 national guard deaths are accounted for with the army, i only know that the guard has the most because i get the V.F.W mag. My father went to iraq in 06; and helped train not only iraqi but helped train marinies. Opperations are diffrent between groups especially involving M.E.t. TEAMS

The Army National Guard was the first military branch of the United States. It was set up before there was even an America. It's the oldest, it has the most tradition. Stop playing this my jar head is better than your citizen soldier bullshit. They all fight for the same cause. In fact the Army reserve and the National Guard have the highest troop count in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Plus the National guard also has the highest sacrifice in Afghanistan with 153 deaths. Show some respect.

@zienocbob Not always true. My dad was army reserve and was training guys in his MET team from the corps that didn't recieve traingng on night raid actions (NRA). Not every marine goes to paris island. I myself will be training with reg army and Marine scout. Only because Cav Reconn in the national guard recieves training sim. to marine scout training.

@zienocbob ...What the hell you talking about? Infantry training is called OSUT, and is 13 weeks, maybe 14 now I'm not sure. After that you will go to jump school (AB) only if its in your contract. If you get threw that then on to the RS.... And what dive school are you talking about?

@covgrad They maybe deployed more, but Active Duty gets deployed in Larger numbers, say 2 battalions or 3 brigade gets deployed from different guard units, while a whole division gets deployed in Active. And deaths has nothing to do with who gets deployed more.

@jme915 Wow..you know nothing about the Guard. Unlike the reserves, the guard operates under state and federal, meaning, they do operate inside the u.s. and ARE DEPLOYED OVERSEAS WHEN NEEDED. During Afghanistan there were more guard there than the regular army. You would know what the guard does, if you actually took the time to find out. Don't try to argue something you know shit about.

They were hit by two rpgs and the second hit injured a National Guardsmen who was on the machine gun. He lost his right eye and is mostly blind in his left. So how did he embarrass us? @williamLongino The National Guard is A reserve component of the Army. Just like the Army Reserves. The only major differences are that the National Guard is payed by the state and the reserves are payed by the Federal govt. The Guard does state missions and has combat arms both unlike the reserves. So yes Fucking really!

my brother when he was is in training for national guard he had to simulate guard duty, at night, with a ouple of buddies with him and i believe a patrol of 60 men, some guys had dress up like terrorists and start an attack and as my brother was about to fall asleep the attack began, he and his squad held out long enough firing their m4s' until the patrol came back, then the entire squad charged the terrorist down a hill screaming and doing war cries the drill sargeant got so pumped up by this
