My family and I lived at Camp Lester from 1990-1994. Just behind the Naval Hospital. What base are you living at? Thanks for the video, it brings back so many wonderful memories. Hope you all are safe.
Intersting shot but the wind is still under 90 mph in that shot. In the heart of a super typhoon the debri flying throught the air will cut off arms and heads faster than a sword. In the Super Typhoon eye wall the trees lose their leaves, the cars and fences fly away, and the unshutter sliding glass doors in the video explode into little bullets.
Military housing (to include the sliding doors) are made to withstand the force of a typhoon. And, btw, the fence is no longer there - the storm blew it down along with tons of branches from the trees. Cars did flip, just not in this video. The wind was gusting up to 150 mph according to news reports.
The video you shot was good, and it is a good thing you did not try to shot any more video when it did get very dangerous. In Hurricane Andrew we had metal fence pipes going clean through solid concrete walls, not CBS walls, but poured solid concrete walls. Typhoons and Hurricane can be very dangerous, I am glad you are safe.
The measured wind speeds at the eyewall are much stronger than the wind speeds felt on the ground. I recall the highest wind gusts measured on Kadena Air Base for Man-Yi were just over 100 MPH. BTW I was also on Okinawa for this storm. ;-)
Oh My God! Poor woman!
I had the same thing happen to me in a field in a Gale... I was being blown away by the wind! :(

We're on McT, which is over toward Courtney. Lester is about 30 minutes southwest of us.

Brad, did you actually send Jilly out into the typhoon and stayed comfy indoors yourself? Sweet, sweet...

The human aspect makes it real...trees will sway, but seeing her being blown off her feet, panicking, has me worried about my Osaka visiting kid!
