  • They were planning violent "protests"

  • Those who sacrifice liberty in exchange for security deserve neither.

  • Soo...

You are one of those that the founding fathers warned us about?

One who would have civil liberties suspended in exchange for a the illusion of security.

With people like you around, all of us will end up with neither security or freedom...

  • i don´t disagree steve, but tell the arresting officers about the constitution and see what happens... i am not for the facist patriot act, it is just the reality of the situation. 8 people were charged with terrorism at the rnc. that is not the bill of rights, that is the patriot act. cops cud give a fuk about your 1st. ammendment rights... better get your passport and learn french...

  • Well, if you have followed this from when it began, you should have noted that the video journalists that were harrassed, detained, and had their equiptment confiscated had no part in ANY plans to disrupt anything, they were merely there to document events. What crime had they committed? I certainly do not agree with blocking traffic, or damaging property, etc, but in America we arrest people AFTER they've actually DONE something, remember? We don't bust into private homes w/out a warrant!

  • This is the same logic Bush used to get us into this war in the first place. We don't wait for other countries to actually DO something to us any more, we just go around invading and kicking the ass of anyone we think *might* try something ...SOMEDAY. This is not the American way, whether you like it or not. We can stand on a street corner and say "I'm gonna do this, that, and another thing"...but until we actually DO IT, we are innocent. This "pre-emptive" shit is dangerous once we let it start

  • Welcome to New World America!

Its going to get worse before it gets better as the saying goes!

  • It's sick what our country is becoming.

    This is just intimidation.

  • rak654d1 - You should brush up on the constitution. Protesting is not breaking the law, however arresting people for merely planning to protest does go aganst the constitution. Do you think we are all living in a Tom Cruise movie? The police can break in and charge us with "pre-crime"? You should be angry that this is happening in America. It could be your home next time, if they decide they don't like people with opinions such as yours....

  • actually, the patriot act ( which obama voted for too) kinda changes all that... protest is now a form of domestic terrorism if they say it is... look it up constitution boy...

  • this is such a coincidence. First Dobbs prayed for rain for the DNC. But before then, they really wanted rioting and ruckus at the DNC by the PUMAS. Now, look at them. They are detaining and seizing peaceful demonstrators. This is horrible. The republicans are really just not tolerant of the common people.

  • The police chief was on C-Span this morning.

Peaceful protesters will be given a platform close to the RNC entrance, even provided with loudspeakers but those arrested yesterday were out to do bodily harm to the cops as well as the convention attendees with molotov cocktails, urine and feces etc.

  • Based on what evidence? An anonymous call or something substantial? Or maybe it was just his "gut"?

I'm not saying they were innocent, but I won't blindly believe a police chief. without evidence it's unconstitutional.

  • yoshim>>> YOU don't believe that do you? These police are being paid. It's time for Anarchy

  • wow.

imagine orgainizing peaceful protest, and getting thrown onto the ground, detained until the convention is over, and your place raided and boarded up!

we should spread this far and wide,

so that this doesnt go unnoticed and fought against

  • There's a true patriot.

If you're like me, outraged behind a computer, 2,000 miles away, then click over to NLG(DOT)Org and throw them some spare change.

  • WOW!!

    Amazing!

    Land of the FREE???

  • Call in the SS and the storm troopers, the Republicans are coming to town, and the need to beat back and beat down the citizenry

  • They fear Cindy, mom of dead vet.

    They fear Tillman family.

    They fear vets.

    They fear unity...

    PAUL IN ST PAUL

    fear neocons fear

    nader paul kucinich gravel

    mckinney ventura too

    perot charts

    RATM

  • holy fucking shit ! au revoir l'Amérique..bonjour état de police

  • this is exactly what China does. Before America gives the rest of the world talks about human rights, it first needs to sort itself out. The republican party has hugely damaged the US of the last eight years, i can't really believe some people are considering giving them 4 more years.

  • It means using your vote in a meaningful way so as not to simply have a vote for whomever is selected for you to vote for. The popular vote decisively chose Hilary Clinton, but the Democratic party deemed Obama more suitable, for the good of the Democratic Party. Blocking roads may not be an act of violence, per se, but such action is passé.

  • But Hillary WAS the establishment candidate. I don't understand this??

  • The point is that a particular 'establishment candidate' was decisively voted for by the electorate. However, if the establishment decide to overrule the vote, there is hardly any need for primary voting, since the choice has been made for you on the basis that all establishment candidates are interchangeable.

  • most interesting to me is that this guy is a republican...and is too badly brainwashed with his house(s) and cars that he cant see that is being done to him and the rest of us. nothing like a foreclosure and joblessness to open the eyes.

  • WTF??!!?? welcome to the nwo... imagine mccain winning - this would be standard procedure. protest NOW [while we still can - almost].

  • WTF? This police action will do more to incite riots than stop them. Police, quit being so fucking stupid. Goddammit.

  • "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; OR THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PEACEABLE TO ASSEMBLE, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

What sort of evidence could there be of someone conspiring to riot?

  • WMD

  • Does the Uptake and TPM give information to the MSM? I mean, I'm sure the people it happened to informed them. But it will probably have more weight if they're informed by another news source.

  • Wow ...

  • wow F'in Republicans

  • The Democrats had the same behavior towards protestors in Denver as well. Arrest and detain anyone who disagrees with federal goverment policy.

  • yea right as many people i saw running through Denver protesting, they wasnt arresting everybody and they sho wasn't knockin down doors

  • You didn't see the YouTube video in which soldiers protested just to have their voices heard during the DNC? They were threatened with tear gas. I saw another in which protestors had semi-automatic rifles pointed at them for shaking a fence.

The mainstream media is burying the police actions both party conventions, but it's definately happening.

  • wake up america.... you could be next!!!pss..Do something...

say no to the Bush/McCain administration... No no how!!

  • When will my fellow citizens wake up?

  • and there are people out there that don't believe this so called war on terror is turning america into a fascist police state slowly but surely....

  • this is ridiculous!
