It's actually an acetate. Acetates were "cut" in the studio and are one of a kind. Test pressings were used to check out the quality of a record early in it's pressing run.
I appreciate the kind words. It seems that this may be Ferguson, Davis and Jones. When I have an opportunity to locate that 45 I'll know for sure if this is the same song.
@PJDooWop Yes this is Ferguson, Davis, and Lee. The groups real names are Jerry Ferguson, Wade Davis, and Charles "Chuck" Lee. The group later changed their name to Lifestyle. Charles Lee is my father-in-law
Great Sound, This is Porky Chedwicks web master writing. I have put some feelers out in the Pittsburgh area to see if they know this song. I will let you know. Pittsburgh is the birth of this music and the sounds are alive and well and continue today to be very strong in Pittsburgh. Thanks for your post.
I have been planning a Pittsburgh trip for a long time. I am hoping to get out there soon, possibly by the end of the year. I'd like to hook up with some of the radio guys out there and play some of my rareties on the air. There isn't much you guys don't know in Pitt, but I've got a few relatively unknown sides that might surprise you.
Could quite possibly be Ferguson, Davis and Lee on the GRT record label (GRT 51, title is Must Be Going Out Of My Head [But I "Luz" You], produced by Billy Jackson, arranged & conducted by Wade Marcus -- all i know is what i see on the record label scan i snagged, i can't find the actual record online though).
When they're clean, acetates usually have a great sound. It's the closest you'll get to the master tape. However, acetates can't be played much. I played this one twice and recorded it onto cd. They degrade quickly because the play surface is a very thin film sprayed on the metal disc. My best suggestion is record that acetate to tape/cd before it becomes unplayable.
Yo, this one is sweet!!! I just wish it was the full song. Man, this joint is nice. I'm totally clueless as to who recorded this, it's a real head scratcher. The vocals don't even sound familiar. PJ, you stumbled upon a precious gem.
Hey! Good information, and new to me, goes to show you, no matter how old always learning something new. Never have seen that acetate item. djdeitch will get it, heck, only 10,000 groups to go. ☺ ☺ ☺ ♪♫
LOL... I feel the same way about it. It seems that a few people might have unveiled the mystery around this one. I'll have to find that GRT record and see if it's the same song.
thank you

Nice one PJDooWop. Late 60s/early 70s Soul ballads are often underrated and ignored on Youtube.
Keep up the good work. You ARE appreciated! :-)
