without environmentalists these past 50 years, most of us would be dead from poisons in our food and environment. i think this may have a bit to do with decreasing of environmental standards over the past 20 years. the workers complained that proper safety measures weren't taken and then they died.

A major part of the Gulf of Mexico is being destroyed by the ignorance of the oil companies, and the responsible parties must have criminal charges brought against them. They can claim it was a terrible accident, but they are still responsible. If an average citizen gets fined thousands of dollars for littering on the street, then these criminals must also pay for their actions.
