@TINBITZPHAM Actually as much as Haley is my favorite, and how much better I think Haley's voice is. Scotty actually does have a decent range, he just didn't show a whole lot of upper range

Her natural tessitura is actually very light (like that of a lyric soprano), but the thing is that she's able to power up her voice rather easily; and when she does, she can sometimes sound more like a mezzo soprano. But if we're going strictly by natural tessitura and vocal range, then she's a soprano.

Good stuff here, Thx. I 'm curious what your opinion of the idol judges is. Its a shame that I have to search the internet for qualified analysis. They seem more like pundits than critics and they seem to offer critical comments rarely and to only a few contestants. When they do offer negative criticism is it generally justified? I have a feeling that their biggest sins are sins of omission. I find it hard to believe that these kids are turning out flawless vocals week after week.

I think Haley would have done a bit better on "You Oughta Know" if it had been transposed up by maybe a fifth. The low notes wouldn't have sunk a bit below her power range. Off topic -- would "would she pleasure you in the theater" have been an okay substitute for the ridiculous cleaned up lyric they came up with, while better maintaining the spirit of the song? I think it would have had just enough ambiguity!

I thought Haley was OK until I read where people were trying to vote for James and the only picture to pop up to vote for was Haley. I also tried to view one of James' videos (Uprising) and low and behold when it started up it wasn't James at all but Haley. I think the voting was definitely off that week. So, it didn't bother me to see her leave the next week. Love Lauren. Vocal range doesn't really matter to me.

Awesome! Thank you for making this. =) I was hoping someone kept track of her notes. She has such a fluid voice that I don't think people realize how high she sings most of the time! Her head voice is beautiful.

@mellynumerounoo Yeah, I think she's pretty underrated as a vocalist (and honestly, I needed time for her to grow on me too), but she did gain momentum towards the end, which is nice! I think she's sung E5 or higher in nearly all of her performances (more like F5 or higher).

She's not much of a glory note singer, so she doesn't draw attention to those notes as much, but of all the girls this year, she has the most ease in her upper register.

Haley helped get me through Pia's elimination(!)
