I really like Jimmy Carr on this. The same thing happened with Bank of America and Wells Fargo in the United States when they threatened to put service fees on people's transactions. They withdrew their money and they cancelled the fee. There are times for protesting, but you have to know when to do it and when not to.
Jimmy's advice regarding who you should protest against, and the way the Netherlands took action, are lessons the recent protesters in America could take some cues from.
@Xeno426 It doesn't work like that because the major banks use fractional banking and the federal reserve would print the money and inject it into the banks should everyone withdraw their cash.
@Xeno426 Yes, that is how a country files bankruptcy it just prints so much money that the inflation wipes out their debt.
It also wipes out everyone's savings that were not backed by some sort of commodity or equity with value (real estate, gold etc.)
It also effectively lowers wages while also increasing the cost of living, unemployment skyrockets because credit freezes up and you can't make risk reward ratios and get investors.
Its happened through out history and its happening again in US.
It would also increase the cost of imported goods while decreasing the cost of local goods, which might actually improve our economic situation. A "weak dollar" is good for export.
I don't know about you but the last time I bought anything made in the US was a few years ago when I got some new clothes, oh and my Intel processor (I think their Chinese plant is up and running now though).
Other then that everything that I buy isn't made here, not even my video games are created in the US.
Only Americans I've employed are some minimum wage retail workers.
There just isn't anything made here...Its so obviously un-sustainable even to a layman economist.
@Dethreid right. some bright spark of an economist, as in touch with reality as my schizo neighbor who tells we bugs clawl out of his tv, came up with the brilliant idea of moving the entire industrial base to china. apparently, a nation can make a living by being terribly clever at manipulating numbers on a computer screen couple of hours a day, and presumably serving lattes to each others the rest of the time, while the mexicans clean our toilets. now, where did i stash my club?
@kalevraa lol yes that is the jist of it. Honestly I hope it descends into chaos its nobody but America's own fault. Not sure if this is also the case in the eurozone but probably is.
Though we have 1 thing the eurozone doesn't have, GUNs and lots of ammunition for em :)
@Dethreid err...yes. we do have lots of guns. however, having done military service in a country where everyone, including kids, have guns, i am not sure it's a a good thing. good people die as easily as assholes when they are shot in the head, and the thing about assholes, they tend to shoot indiscriminately. thus, whoever i left alive after chaos breaks out, is most likely a horrible asshole. contrary to cowboy movies, bad guys are just as good with a gun as good guys. so...
Another way anarchists could make a difference is to piss off and grow a brain and try persuasion instead of shouts. An anarchist is an intellectually frustrated dimwit following his desires without giving thought.
Are people really going to look at the riots and say "Oy, I never thought of it that way before. I now see your point"?

i hate this show....it's too serious and it's too inaccessible to people not living in the UK. and it's taking up some of my favorite comedians' precious time that they could be using to make me laugh.

Great idea. Or organize to not pay your tax, or threaten to create your own money.

Wouldn't printing that much extra money dangerously devalue the dollar?
