  • I can only get about 160 minutes of time out of my class 6, 32G SD card with my 100U set at the lowest HD quality. What settings are you at to get 4 hours out of yours?

  • did you ever do the extended review of this camera?

  • Would I be able to edit any videos from this camera with Sony Vegas?

  • @FD7XGU8X Vegas will work great with this JVC.

  • Hi, I'm looking for a camera that is able to record strobe lights well! Can this camera do this? Others I have used tend to not be able to keep up with the speed of a strobe light. I used to have a Sony PD-170 and it was fine, but not found a cheap HD camera that can do it. Any suggestions? This would be perfect if it could. Cheers.

  • great vid but face it....mac sucks

  • @wakaphwap haha you noob......

  • Files from the HM100 will drop into Vegas Pro 9 as well. People need to knows this.

  • whould you tell me please what kind of cam did you use to upload this high clip quality

  • @doodialfayed This was shot using a Canon HF200. It's a great camcorder I did a review on for the News Photographers Association of Canada.

  • well I'm so getting this camera and I have final cut express and a "no loss" file converter and I guess I'll use that until I get final cut pro and I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem even if I switch to adobe CS.

  • hi, i really wanna get this jvc cam and plan to in the next few weeks but i noticed some one leaving a comment about it not working with final cut express which is what i have , does this mean i will have to go out and spend £800 on fcp just to use this cam? i had my heart set on getting this cam but dont really want to if i gotta get final cut pro for it to work.

  • @biskeybee Unless something has changed in the last few months you'll need Final Cut Pro to edit the files off the JVC GY HM-100U.

  • @grcanning thanks for letting me know? i really wanted this cam but dont know if i wanna go out and spend all the money on fcp also i only have a mac pro laptop so i dont have anywhere to plug the sd card, can you reckon any other cams in this price range i can but that i can use with fce? cheers

  • @grcanning They load in Vegas fine mate.

  • will it work the same in final cut express?

  • @H3NCHY No. Express doesn't have the codex to inport or edit the files.

  • @grcanning what about sony vegas orafter effects cs5, and could you tell me what code you need?

  • I have the HM 100U and I Love it. My Question is Would the Video Footage Look Better editing, in Final Cut Pro then Adobe Premiere Pro CS3?

    Thank You!

  • only one question:better than nex-vg10?

  • I purchased this camera tonight through apple. I have express. Do you think that since I purchased this camera from apple that express will be able to read the format installed on the camera?

  • @uniqueqt2 It will not work with Express. The movie files need the Final Cut Pro codec to be read.

  • i really want to get one and want to know does it work with apple mac laptop's because they dont have an sd card slot or port and do they work with imovie? please get back to me cheers

  • @TheBlakeMarshall The .mov movie files will not work with iMovie. Not yet anyway. You can record in mpeg format and that should work but I haven't tried it.

  • @grcanning thanks for your help i also have a a desktop with finalcut which has an sd card slot should that work? sorry to trouble you

  • @TheBlakeMarshall Should work fine.

  • @grcanning .mov does work with iMovie natively. In fact this quicktime format is preferred.

  • @REALITYjk True, but the codec used in the JVC will only work with FCP.

  • @grcanning .mov load fine into Vegas Pro 9

  • Which FCP are you using? Does it matter to import mov files?

  • @tudorproductions It shouldn't matter which version you use as long as it's updated. I'm using 7.0

  • just bought this camera and im getting a pickup on the internal mic but when i have the external hooked up im not picking up any sound. do you think you could do a runthrough of switching from internal to external please

    thanks

  • Are you still doing reviews, because your reviews are awesome ;)

  • Hi,

    is this camera waterproof?

  • @Nk19998 Nooooooo...! Please don't try that.

  • @grcanning ok.

  • @grcanning I would probably need to get a water proof case or something....

  • A friend just bought this cam and I've been helping her learn it's features. I love the SD card & instant eding feature, but the I much prefer the manual controls on my Canon XHA1. And some of the menu features didn't make any sense at all.

  • Instant editing, lolz so does adobe premiere pro cs5 but final cut is still a pretty good program and also has a nice workflow. now me on the other hand, i prefer premiere pro cs5

  • The instant editing refered to in this video is in regard to the file format. There is no ingest or conversion time so editing can be done instantly. If you use tape your ingest is as long as your shot (5 minutes of tape = five minutes of ingesting). AVCHD formated files can take just as long. Because the GY-HM100U shoots in MOV format the ingest time is 0. Thus the reference to instant editing. As far as I know the MOV format isn't supported in Adobe Premiere. Can anyone help with that info?

  • @grcanning adobe premiere actually can handle mov's with extened third party software, howver you are right, it is not supported.

  • Will this camera format work with Final Cut Express?

  • @SeriousOllie yes!

  • @SeriousOllie Express doesn't have the codec needed to recognize the MOV file format. I was hoping for the same thing but no dice. FCP only.

  • Nice video!

    I have a few question,

    1. While recording, can you zoom?

    2. is it HD?

    3. Can the mic go a little far or do you need to buy another mic?

    Thanks

  • @Nk19998 You can record while zooming, the 100U shoots HD, and the mic.... It's not bad but you'd be better off picking up a good shotgun. Glad you like the vid and thanks for your comments.

  • can this camera shoot in slowmotion, what is the slowest fps?

  • can i use adobe premiere with this camera?

  • I think the Cannon XL2 is better overall but in video journalism the JVC is the right choice

  • @grcanning

I am looking at getting this camera and underwater housing (equinox) for documenting my senior and graduate research (contaminated water). I have over 250 hours on the gy-hd100u and noticed it has trouble rendering colors without external help, mainly shifting everything to the blue side of the spectrum. In addition it is been in the shop ALOT! My question is: What is the maintenance on the camera and how does this camera perform in 3200K and 5600K external light?

  • @eweil Good question. I can only go by what I've seen so far. The 100U's white balance has been consistently good for me but I haven't used it underwater. I know that would cause color spectrum issues. Maintenance wise I've had no issues at all so far with the exception of it once locking up in a pure white screen. Switching it off solved that issue. What kind of problems are you having?

  • Awesome Video Review!!!!!!!!

  • i so wish i could afford this the moment i saw it i loved it lol oh well maybe one day:) (i subbed)

  • I have one of these I record in mp4 format and edit with Premiere Pro ,I think it's better procedure to copy files to your HHD first you can always refer back to them long after you have deleted them from the SDHC card

  • I am totally getting one of these.. im so stoked

  • You'll love it. I find I shoot with it all the time now that editing has been made much easier by the instant importing.

  • Would it be possible to get this for 2500?? used of course..

  • It's possible but I haven't seen any. All the ones I've come across on Kijiji and eBay are new.

  • @grcanning

does this have a mic line in?

  • Yes, it has two XLR connectors and a 1/8" input by the headphone output.

  • @grcanning

Nice Video. I am thinking of getting one of these but I have some questions about it. 1] does it have a place to plug in wireless microphone 2]what's the mega pixel 3] What's the longest hour it can record? Thanks.

  • @PrinceNwerem It has two XLR inputs plus a 1/8 jack for an external mic. I use two 16 gb cards and that gives me two hours of recording on the highest settings.

  • @grcanning

    Thanks.

  • @xTurnipTimex Yes.

  • MOV is nice to record in. Thanks for posting this.
