Hello, and apologies for the late reply. 'When A Man's In Love' was written by the "weaver poet" Hugh McWilliams, who was born in Glenavy Co. Antrim in 1783. He published a book called "Poems and Songs on Various Subjects" in 1831, which included the lyrics to "When a Man's in Love", with the air specified as "Moses Gathering the Children". That melody in turn can be traced to various English broadside ballads. Hope that answers your question!
