I was too young to see this place in it's heyday but from what i've seen & heard from others, seems this was an awesome racing facility. It's a shame that greed did the place in. The wrong folks had ownership of this track, they obviously were not racefans...
I grew up a few miles from this track. Watched motorcycle races,(500cc Moto GP Two stroke I think.) motocross, Indy... Met Robbie Kenivel on his bicycle, I could not believe they tore it down and then built Fontana. Track mismanagement? I also went to Cal Jam One. Mr. Treadway, was the the Mayor and my 7th grade woodshop teacher. What a ass wipe he was; swated a kid for farting inclass. He also used to go to Mexico for all his food, now thats supporting your community.

i wish i was old enough to remember the place it looked amazing, just looking at old photos now it takes my breath away...i wonder what it looked like when they leveled the place...makes me well up just thinking about that. I wish it was still around
I still have in mint condition a 1968 program!...LOl..Evil used to jump there. All that land today is used now, nothing left. No this is a fine example of how stupid humans are. They tear this track down and then build another one a couple miles east!! In southern california, history means nothing. The drivers back then didn't wear those stupid, "Monkey suits" they wear now. They were ass kickers back then.
Look at the area behind the back straightaway....anyone who lives here now will have a hard time comprehending there used to be a track in this location. The only remnants are some racing-related street names near the apartments and sports arena.
It's an exact copy of Indianapolis. Well, almost. The track is a bit wider and the short chutes are banked but the rest of the track is an exact copy.
Thanks for uploading this. I still have memories of seeing Roger McClusky winning the 1972 CAL 500, the first race I ever went to. As for the California Speedway, it doesn't hold a candle to what OMS used to be.
As a young teenager, I grew up a couple miles from OMS. What an incredible place that was, and how tragic to have it bulldozed. Somewhere I still have an employees shirt - with blue & white checkered sleeves ... wonder how much a collector's item that is? I MISS YOU OMS!
This was truely an amazing place. It is so sad that It was demolished just one year after this race was run. OMS can be seen in several 1970's movies such as Death Race 2000, Evel Knievel, Once Upon A Wheel (racing documentary hosted by Paul Newman), and the opening episode of season 2 of Charlies Angels. There are several scenes with the angels bouncing around at OMS. It does'nt get any better than that!
What a shame OMS no longer exists. This Indy clone is much more interesting than Fontana, which is a Michigan clone. It would have been very interesting to see the 1993-1999 CART cars on this track.

"I still have in mint condition a 1968 program!"
That must be worth a fortune because the first race was in 1970.

It'd be great if I could see the entire race! Really Piss-Poor Quality! This was also Dale's first race with Wrangler as the sponsor. by the way.

I live on what used to be the parking lot, about 1000 feet west of the track. I went to this track many times until it was torn down when I was 5.

Ontario Motor Speedway. It's a shame due to financial failure but I think I prefer the OMS track over the California (Auto-Club) Speedway.
I was looking for some footage of the whole track in a long while. Thanks for uploading it.
