Some of us older folks, or more "experienced" folks in the United States know what a car bonnet is.
It is an older term - probably well before your time. I am 37 years old, born in North Carolina, living in Massachusetts - and I know what a car bonnet is. It's easy enough to Google it...
A car bonnet refers to the car hood or vehile engine compartment cover. It also refers to a leather or vinyl cover over the storage deck of a convertible top. It can also refer to the top itself. And I didn't have to Google that...
Hey i just ordered some stencils at kustom shop and i ordered a skull with open mouth but when i opened the pack today the skull`s face and head were in 2 parts/pieces are there a reason on that ?? (not broken)

@SCUBONZIES Thanks for taking the time out of your day to watch the video. But even more to feel that you just had to write some thing to. So for me to be a loser, how does it feel that you got that off of your chest? I mean do you feel like you did some thing good by writing some thing dumb?
Hi ed ,i have my regulator set at 50 psi when the air button/trigger is pulled. When i release it the regulator jumps back up to about 80 psi, so when i start spraying again it sprays it out at 80 psi way to much air for my liking on small work, but if i keep the trigger on till the regulator drops down to 50 it is fine. Is this normal?
Hi Ed, once you finish a job or during the process how do you get rid of your finger prints, I was told that if finger prints get on it, that it will show after clearing and that if not careful clear will peal off..is this true? if so how can I fix it? I see you touching your work all the time and it just gets me thinking...thanks and keep videos rolling pls.Godbless Ed from godboy.com.au all the way from Australia!!
@nelsonrayjim32 Clean it with wax and grease remover before you clear coat it. And no that is not true that it will peel off. It will leave smudges though.
Awesome work, newbie here...what colors were you shooting? more specifically, were they transparent or semi-opaque, or opaque? I would like to shoot some true flames with skulls behind but which paint to use gets a little confusing. Thanks for your help and inspiration!
I love that you try to comment and give advice to all of your comments. On behalf of the entire airbrushing community, thank you very much for your help! It is invaluable to many.
@ScienceRyan No problem,I know first hand how frustrating it is to ask a question to some one that has been in the business and knows the answer but won't even reply. I vowed that if I ever get to that point in my career I will not be that person and I will do my best to answer any one and every one I can.
Some times when I get on the computer it gets a little over whelhming with the hundred's of questions...but that is what I do.
what is the average pay for custom work like this ? is it by hour or an agreed apon price before its done? does it pay alot more than regular auto painting

Hey Ed very nice tutorials! I was hoping to hear a little how you started airbrushing as a business? I'm 19 turning 20 so and I've bought my expensive and high quality airbrush kit (iwata). I've tested it for quite some time now, but ONLY on paper, and it seems I got a talent for this! And it's damn fun! But how do you actually continue from here, how do you reach out to most people in an effective way? I mean, I have very little knowledge about on how to airbrush on cars, which I want to do :/
@Spyflugan91 I would start a face book page and find some motorcycle parts to start on. Air brush them and start posting your art work and start networking with every one to get your name out there.
dammit he has more talent in his pinkie than i have in my whole body..... soooo unfair.. do they sell talent on ebay? oh well practice some more i guess
@edhubbs Hey Ed, do you ever use pens/markers or fine-tipped mechanical pens for details in your airbrushed auto graphics? If so, what brand/type of pens do you recommend? what are safe to use for clear coating? Thanks man.
@MindC0rr0si0n um... If you went to a dealership, they can supply you with the specific vehicle paints. these are meant for hobbyists that spray in their garages. In a professional circuit, Body shops and professional customizers like Ed Hubbs can mix their own paint to match the OEM finish, using paint systems like PPG and Du Pont. To get fancy, one can order specialty finishes (i.e. House of Kolors) or use the custom options from the two listed above (Vibrance and Hot Hues, respectively)
Think of the background being the color of your background... try and change that to you main color...next thing you know you dont have to worry about the blending so much..thats right
im lookin for an air gun to spray tanks or large areas , what do you recommend? i wanted one that i could use my iwata airbrush compressor with it????
@killkult Softly air brush the stencil then remove it and free hand it from there. The stencil is just a guide line to get the facial features all in line.

hey Ed, I love your art mate. I was just wanting to ask if I have an air brush gun, is my compressor ok to use that I have now? its a 40ltr tank and goes upto 115psi and 2.5hp.
About a year ago I watched one of your videos and was inspired to upgrading my drawings to stencils I love to draw (as a hobby) I been collecting items to start airbrushing (air pig) some hoses, and a small air pump .working on a airbrush set

hey, im a beginner and i really want to get into this airbrushing really hard.
can i have an advice or something for the start? what type of airbrush that i have tu use, and where i have to airbrushing first like cloth, bike helmet, trucker hat etc?
@sammcool coastairbrush(dot)com sells every thing that you will need to get started.I would recommend the Iwata HP-BCS for a air brush and House of Kolor for your paint choice.
Yo Ed have you tried the Richpen 213c??? If so feedback would be great. I reacently purchased one but it hasnt arrived yet and was wondering what to expect when it gets here.
your airbrushing is insane man! do you have to use special paiints through the airbrushes? i wish there was more of a market for that stuff here in england as i would love to work custom rides!
thanks,Im going for the same effect as this video with skulls layed out and transparant color over top, wasnt sure i need to use a different paint so no peelin or crackin is what i ment thanks alot your the man!
Ed Hubbs,I can watch these videos for hours! I am a begginer and would like to know a few things if you wouldnt mind? I am painting a bike some plaastic and some metal, what kinda pa[nt would you reccomend as far as the black skull layout over the base for best results thanks!
hey ed, just finished trying out some skulls, i did some racing stripes and just laid the skulls in the stripes. just wondering how to make the skulls look more buried into the paint. i have used kustom shop stencils, very nice. the truck is white.
ok thanks, but any candy i use will show on the white right ? is there any way to bury them with out the candy showing up on the white. thanks for your help ed.
I NEED HELP!!! i just got an Airbrush kit for christmas and i need tips on making straight lines! when i go to do a skull or anything for that matter i cant keep the lines straight... any tips for a new guy??
Do what is called a dagar stroke and keep practicing it until you can do at least ten lines in a row that are straight and then do it again. Oh Ya and PRACTICE. LOL
the basecoat i use is a 1:1 mixture for regular spray what is the best way to reduce this for use in my air brush i have been mixing by eye but would like to learn correct mixing ratio i am runing in between a .2 and.3 fliud tips i am in school and the teacher wants me to try to do all my pracicing textbook style so i have to right all the processes down before i am alloud to try a new technic thanks
austin riverland tech college in minn it is an auto collision corse i have to finish all class projects before i am alloud to do any airbrushing i get some pointers from the teachers but most is you tube mostly your stuff i am into building cars so this was the closest fit in my area it works plus i will be able to get certified thru i-car ill send some pics of the stuff i done here soon
Hi Ed i already have a Grex XB airbrush and its pretty good although some days i get it working fine then other bad days im a beginner . Anyway im getting an Aztec airbrush kit they are super easy to clean ect . what is your opinion of them
i have a paasche vls airbrush is this a good gun and what do you recomend for fine detail i can get close to hair line but not quite i have tried the remving of the fluid tip trick and that narrowed it down but i am looking for finer detail also how many times do you reuse your stencils before descarding
thanks for the tips i did this skull trick in auto collision class the other week and it turned out perfect cant wait tell your next vids the stencils worked perfect and cleaned up nicley i am trying some thing new every friday on our days out of class
Does someone has advices for me, cause im in a point, that im afraid to paint portraits, i reached top of my skill level, and im afraid that i fail, and cannot do as good painting as i did last time, so i avoid painting, and people say im good, this has been going on like 8 years of strugling, and painting one art painting goes like 100 hours, lot of pressure of me and others... help, advices someone, in my page you can see what kind of Airbrush paintings i do.
You're problem is you're afraid of failure. Don't be, because everyone fails sometime in their life. No one is perfect. You gotta have faith in yourself and believe you can do and not beat yourself up over it, otherwise you will never succeed.
If you really painted all those actors then you do have the skill and I don't what you're talking about. Just keep doing it, you need patience with airbrushing.
thanks man nice job. might check out out that link hey, bought a airbrush kit of ebay borrowed my dads compressor, and today air brushing my skateboard my first time, needed a bit of insight on airbrushing thanks! 5/5 stars

Have you thought of spraying in some sort of a back ground ? For example fog or even a night scene that would make them pop out.

hey ed, just finished trying out some skulls, i did some racing stripes and just laid the skulls in the stripes. just wondering how to make the skulls look more buried into the paint. i have used kustom shop stencils, very nice. the truck is white.
blowerwine 2 years ago
Shadowing them helps or even putting a candy over them will work.
edhubbs 2 years ago
ok thanks, but any candy i use will show on the white right ? is there any way to bury them with out the candy showing up on the white. thanks for your help ed.
blowerwine 2 years ago
Then maybe use a dark gray to do the shadowing.
edhubbs 2 years ago
thanks i will try my best lol. still trying to get the shadowing to look right!

What school are you attending that teaches air brushing?
1 to 1- 1/2 is what I would use for air brushing.

You can't be serious. I looked at your video and I have no idea what you are talking about.
Man you are very good!
edhubbs 2 years ago
You're problem is you're afraid of failure. Don't be, because everyone fails sometime in their life. No one is perfect. You gotta have faith in yourself and believe you can do and not beat yourself up over it, otherwise you will never succeed.
If you really painted all those actors then you do have the skill and I don't what you're talking about. Just keep doing it, you need patience with airbrushing.
