Don't try working this one out guys, no one, but no one has the scorching TONE of Mick Taylor on fretted notes or slide. Here is the hottest, sweetest, meanest, gut wrenching minor blues guitar solo (and fills) that ever dropped out of the sky from Heaven.
God, I had forgotten all about this! I had this album in high school ('72-'73) and I wore this cut OUT! THE stand-out solo on an album showcasing Bluesbreaker alums! Brilliant!
I think about it this way. I do not compare Mick Taylor with Peter Green or any other Bluesbreaker guitarists. I also do not bother about the theme of the song. It is just a platform for one of the greatest and most sensitive piece of blues guitar ever recorded.
If Mick Taylor did not lift a finger for the rest of his life he would be a legend for this exquisite piece of guitar work. Utterly sublime! Thanks, Mick :-)
@tiborzkarate LOVE PETER GREEN and HATE that Fleetwood Mac kept the name after he left!!!! Peter Green is #1 but Mick Taylor should be #2! The Stones REALLY lost something magnificent when he left.
hmm...I didn't think the dreary tone fit the subject of the lyrics; but with that amazing guitar performance, I couldn't care less! Mick Taylor is as talented as they get.
This is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time, and it's from 1971! As I remember it it was a double record set, with a detailed insert about each song and band mate. Great stuff. Mick Taylor, Eric Clapton, Harvey Mandel but no Peter Green. I guess he had "dissapeared" into the cult thing they say he had joined. It's a huge ommission, but still it's out of this world.
FYI this album is a photo scrapbook of most of the muscicians John Mayall has played with. The photos are outstanding--especially a beautiful photo of Eric Clapton. If you can still find this album get it

Beautiful solo by Mick. Low-grade sentiments & lyrics by Mayall.

@tiborzkarate
yes, I would put Peter Green right there with Mick.
So many fine Brit-guitarists, bassists, drummers... and on and on...
