people need to learn not to be bitches of trivial shit and get on with their life. the fact they protested is pathetic cops should have tear gassed em for not being able to take a joke.
Movies like this suck anyway.. very low-brow humor. They deserve to lose their credibility anyway.. protesters or no protesters you shouldn't watch this garbage. If you think this shit is funny-- you probably are 'retarded'..
What ever happened to artistic license? It was a comedy and it's pretty clear that they weren't using the word "retard" as a shot at people with mental/physical disabilities. Stiller was lampooning the phenomenon of big Hollywood actors portraying disabled characters a la Dustin Hoffman, Sean Penn and Tom Hanks.
Is it necessary to have political correctness in every facet of society, even comedy?
why don't we not use it at all? we can make comedy without using it. why use it? does using it make the movie any funnier? does it make it more popular? if the had not have used it, much more people would go see the movie. i understand he can do what he wants, but if we just don't use it, then there would be no controversy. why doesn't anyone get it. JUST DON'T USE THE R-WORD!
If anyone would like a thoughtful, nuanced view on this, there's an excellent article, "Tropic Thunder -- Hollywood Still Doesn't Get It" on a site called disaboom. Google the title to find it.
Quote: "What's the fuss? Simplistic explanations point to political correctness & understandable condemnation of the word 'retard'...Limiting the debate to charges of censorship or political correctness misses the point. The deeper issue isn't about words, it's satirization without representation."
I happen to know a number of people in this news clip and I assure you they do have other things to do with their time, but a life of discrimination, including institutionalization and for some forced sterilizations, raised their anger on this loaded word. Would people be as surprised to see a protest if, rather than the character saying "Don't go full retard" had said "Don't go full nigger"?
Why is it that those with the least experience in oppression complain the loudest about being oppressed, about having their rights taken away? Are these values taught to everyone in your trailer park?
Everybody know you never go full retard!!! I promised myself I wasn't gonna do this, We're not gonna protest!!! We're not gonna protest!!!

Great coverage. I see Mr. Phillips in the background -- would have been nice to hear his powerful comments.
