After viewing the comments, people are too naive. Too easy to be misleading by the propganda, not only the Chinese. People are just misleaded for the different purpose by different people.

Any company that wants to succeed in China needs patience and perseverance. It took VW 2 decades and GM 1 decade. But seems after the departure of Dr. Lee, who is a great leader, Google simply lost patience.
western companies generaly can sucseed in comunist countries because they are generally consumer oriented. i guess you cannot even imagine that probably nobody in chinese goverment/companies care what chinese people want or need - this is main diffrence

But I highly doubt he and google can overcome the strong home court advantage enjoyed by Baidu, not least because the government looks at google and all other internet companies with deep suspicion. Google, on the other hand, can't do what's necessary because of the whole political pressure here in the states.

I don't deny the Chinese thirst for knowledge, but I wonder if the wider eye scanning and more clicking isn't a product of being less familiar with the internet environment. I suspect US users were probably like Chinese in the late 80s-early 90s. But after a time, we have learned what not to look at (ads) and how to zero in on what we're looking for more directly. Studies comparing China/US users which filter for the individual's experience on the web would seem helpful.
Kai-Fu told quite true story about China's Intenet situation. It is sorry that google is gone from China mainland.
