  • Kai-Fu told quite true story about China's Intenet situation. It is sorry that google is gone from China mainland.

  • much helpful

  • It is a very inspiring story of Google in China.

  • this is interesting...

  • Kai-Fu Lee Lecture

  • 39分钟惊现春哥....

  • mmm... it interesting to look at it in retrospective :) , but it is great talk any way

  • Biggot chinks sensoring the internet.....

  • Kaifu really knows about china!

  • Really enjoyed this lecture. Great stuff.

  • There are two forms of Leadership. The first, and by far the most effective, is

LEADERSHIP BY CONSENT of, and with the sympathy of the followers.

The second is LEADERSHIP BY FORCE, without the consent and sympathy

    of the followers.

History is filled with evidences that Leadership by Force cannot endure. The

downfall and disappearance of "Dictators" and kings is significant. It means

that people will not follow forced leadership indefinitely - period. Face it China!Who needs to control has fear..

  • @Keitai5263

We want Google to stay in China and keep China from being the world's largest intranet.

  • kaifu lee do bring google very close to our understanding, world become easier

  • "We will take a long-term view to win in China. The Chinese have 5000 years of history. Google has 5000 years of patience in China." -- Eric Schmidt, CEO, Google.

lol. How many years has Google been in China? less than 5

  • Wow,doesn't Kaifu-Lee know the internet fact in China?

    Such a joke-'free download'...

  • After viewing the comments, people are too naive. Too easy to be misleading by the propganda, not only the Chinese. People are just misleaded for the different purpose by different people.

  • A charmer with sense of humor, jokes are jokes, dont really have to mean to put people down or something.

However, I found one joke did not amaze me; that Chinese seek for free meals, free drinks that may arouse their interest on internet searching? What a dirty joke! :p

  • Too many people focus their concerns on the issue of profit rather than

the sense of Freedom of speech!

  • Go Google!

  • lol at this gandustaniat.

  • Chink netizens already started searching proxy sites using 'google'!

    :D

  • Now I can see why Google withdraw from China. It is simply because there is no profit for them in China where local competitors are so strong and take such a large market share.

  • Correct -- regardless of how Google tried to market, Baidu would eventually overtake them.

  • Any company that wants to succeed in China needs patience and perseverance. It took VW 2 decades and GM 1 decade. But seems after the departure of Dr. Lee, who is a great leader, Google simply lost patience.

  • western companies generaly can sucseed in comunist countries because they are generally consumer oriented. i guess you cannot even imagine that probably nobody in chinese goverment/companies care what chinese people want or need - this is main diffrence

  • conclusion after first 5 minutes usa goverment can see and control evrything citizens do in internet or buy via credit cards what is even not possible in chna

  • Chinese have their rights to do with their own things.

  • Google has 5000 years of patience in China?

  • You better wake up. Stop buying Chinese...PERIOD. Free Tibet!!

  • ? what the hell is Google related to Tibet?

  • What is your point? Why does it have anything to do with Tibet?

  • your right louieyashili. tibet has nothing to do with this, but nevertheless, it is expected why they say that. it's like how google politicized this thing when it's essentially about an unrelated matter of them losing business to a local competitor.

but it's all part of this anti-China bandwagon, or using China as some sort of scapegoat.

    go google?

    more like, go home google.

  • NSPAP KONNTROLLE IST DAS HIER!!!

  • FREE TIBET

  • Chinees people are retarded

  • Is that a joke? Are you trying to be funny?

You can't spell 'Chinese' and you're calling other people retarded. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and treat this as a knowing joke.

Still not a very helpful comment though.

  • who are "Chinees" people?

  • U r totally right. Lee's gone. He can build companies and sell them to Google or Yahoo. He's a good guy.

  • He's kinda a celebrity and he probably is better than most people in Google when it comes to building relationships with the government and users alike. But I highly doubt he and google can overcome the strong home court advantage enjoyed by Baidu, not least because the government looks at google and all other internet companies with deep suspicion. Google, on the other hand, can't do what's necessary because of the whole political pressure here in the states.

  • that's a really good speech

  • His....no.....her LOL

  • "people just click on everything"

  • half naked person! haha

  • Really good speech...Provides valuable insights into the Chinese information technology industry

  • wonderful speech

  • interesting. thanks for sharing!

  • l love kai-fu lee,you are verygood

  • Work hard and play hard in Google~

  • China is different! The market in china is bigger and better.

  • "Better"?

  • Better means you get better chance and possibly make better money

  • One other thing: the ethical and censorship issue needed to be addressed sufficiently. Thanks for posting though.

  • I don't deny the Chinese thirst for knowledge, but I wonder if the wider eye scanning and more clicking isn't a product of being less familiar with the internet environment. I suspect US users were probably like Chinese in the late 80s-early 90s. But after a time, we have learned what not to look at (ads) and how to zero in on what we're looking for more directly. Studies comparing China/US users which filter for the individual's experience on the web would seem helpful.
