  • thought you disappeared 0.o

  • jesus i didnt even kno tht dark basic was capable of doin tht, nice work, im using dark basic at college for the first time and its not going so well :/

  • @thePCgamingZone Thanks. Take a look at the tutorials in the newsletter and some of the examples that can be found in the forums. DBPro isn't too hard to pick up. Good luck

  • Great work man!

    Looks awesome!!

    Keep going!

  • @NoxWings Thanks !

  • very nice work right now i can only make a ball move and when it hits stick people they blow up

  • did you make the models or get them somwhere else?

  • @mygameclips I created all of the assets

  • Amazing looking.. Hope you've had time to finish this project :D

  • hmmm Unity3D or DarkBasicPro? im not a programmer i just think this would be kinda fun to learn :D also.. Unity3D u can put the game on mac, ps3 or xbox 360 can u do the same with darkbasic?

  • hmmm Unity3D or DarkBasicPro? im not a programmer i just think this would be kinda fun to learn :D also.. Unity3D u can put the game on mac, ps3 or xbox 360 can u do the ame with darkbasic?

  • @DMoneyyxx Unfortunately Unity3D is a little bit too pricey for us at the moment. We have no financial backing and the free version is just too feature crippled to be of any use to us. Even though with Unity3D the possibility to publish to Xbox360 or Ps3 is there, it's very expensive since both platforms require extra licensing.

  • very impressive work so far, its nice to see how far dark basic can be pushed!

  • @jr2nd Thanks !

  • Wich Modelcreator did you use?? There just a few which are working with DB.

    Pls answer...:D

    Nice work.

  • @ToXicX1994

Personally I'm using 3ds Max in conjunction with an .x exporter.

  • please please PLEASE start making tutorials

  • i would so buy this game for $50 if you add combat :D

  • excelent textures

i want naruto game in dark basic *-*

  • Amazing texture quality, looks good.

  • So Amazing

  • not the best frame rate...

  • everything is nice except for the animation...needs a little bit more work....BTW, where did u find the soundtrack?

  • Can u send me a like a beginner guide how to pogramm whit darkbasic pro plz : ) because i just got this and i dont know how it works : )

  • i want this game!!

  • Looks cool

  • Can I play it =[

  • waar kan ik het downloaden

    where can i download it

  • Beatiful character design, animation, scenery and lighting. It looks amazing. I would like to see some action! Make him draw that sword and show some moves!

  • This looks awesome! Great job, professional looking stuff. Did you use any extension packs for this project like Enhanced animation, or other stuffs?

And what program did you use to make the scenery? How did you genrated the lightmaps? And how did you make that nice shadow casted by your character?

  • can you sell your games

  • is it better to learn javascript or darkbasic and also are there any HUGE differences between the two, because some of there commands are the same, also when is this game or a demo of it coming out?

  • Oh god that frame rate is terrible. Amazing work though. I especially loved the post processing and lighting work you did. Everything is great. How long have you been working with Darkbasic Pro?

  • @RavingKunaiX I hope you are not judging by the FPS value displayed in the left corner, because it was setup to display the cameras vertical rotation. The scene runs at 60-80 fps which I don't consider terrible. Some lag is created through the capturing software, but the actual demo runs very smooth. Glad you like my work. I've been using DBPro for around 4 years now.

  • @Irradic

Whoa nice, I've been working with C++ for a year or so and I'm beginning to pick up on XNA/C#. I'm considering trying out dark basic since you can make all of this cool stuff with it. and yeah, I've had problems with capture framerate for some things as well.

  • @Irradic ia there any combat?

  • that's awsome:)

    very laggy though...

  • That's awesome

  • This looks amazing. Is darkbasic pro and those other programs you used something you'd recommend me to start out on or are they too advanced? I have no experience but I would like to learn how to create a game similiar to this.

  • @divadworld - Thank you ! You can learn the interface and usage of tools, that's not really the problem. But learning how to create quality models will take quiet a while, it's nothing you will learn from one day to the other. Darkbasic Pro is a good starting point. No worries there. Just try to stay motivated and keep your expectations low at the beginning.

  • @divadworld

I've just started out whit DBP myself, and I got som good results after just few hours learning the language, there are a guy here on youtube that make tuts too, you shuld watch em, I've learned tonns of stuff there :) he username is dcforemanuk

  • hi there, im new to dark basics, going to be learning soon just a quick question. How does the actual coding in dark basic create and image such as the surrounding in the game how does DB generate the scenery through the coding?

  • Comment removed

  • @bennykell3 - Hi. I'll send you a message.

  • @Irradic hey can u send me message on that too? thnx...

  • @bennykell3 can you send that message to me as well =p

  • Great job. i've tried to make a game, but my problem is the DB pro is loading very slow, and then when is loaded up is good, no problem . Can you tell me a better ideea to make the DB load a little bit faster ? is there fps a problem ?Thank you !

  • @liviut17 - To speed up loading convert all models to the .dbo file format and use .dds format for your textures.

  • Awesome awesome job, love your videos.Keep it up.

  • to bad your pc cant handle it

  • @TheTruthIsTwisted - Hmm, the scene at its current state runs at 70-80fps. My goal is to keep it between 50-60fps. If you were looking at the fps counter, it was actually displaying the tilt (in degrees) of the camera. I changed it back to display the fps after some time. Lag is only apparent in the videos, actual fps is smooth

  • i dont understand how to use dark basic pro

  • This game has PS3 graphics as I can see. Very impressive. Did you make the models, or did someone else? If you did, nice work! :D

  • @RoyalCardMan Thanks a lot ! Yes, I created the models myself.

  • @Irradic my freind you are one good artist. make any tutorialsa on programing, because I was using unity 3d latley and I dont like using java, I was thinking using that program.

  • Vert nice..I'm impressed.

  • impressive

  • is this free? your game i mean

  • This game reminds me of Onimusha, it looks really good, especially for DarkBasic =D

I was thinking that you could possibly make a short scenario, export the game and add some cutscenes to show you know what you're doing, and use it as a reference to get a good GD job.

Or if you're good enough, possibly make your own engine. That would guarantee you a job.

    Good luck with it man.

Ps. How long roughly did it take you to design this?

  • @superant10000 - Thanks a lot. I'm pretty happy with my job as graphic artist. This is really just something I'm working on in my free time. I made some changes and updates to the scene. I'll probably upload a new video in the next couple of days. So please check back.

  • @Irradic Awesome, I'm just taking a game design course in college where I get to use DarkBasic. Is it any different to the Dark GDK (if you've used it)?

Because I'd gotten used to DarkGDK and I'm not sure how different it's gonna be. I might torrent it tonight XD

And I'll make a note to check back by monday for anything new. Happy coding =D

  • @superant10000 - If you are using Dark GDK, stick with it. Unless you want to make use of the advanced lighting system, then you have no other choice than to use DBPRO. Unfortunately Dark GDK's commands are not up to date with those of DBPro.

By the way, there is a free version of DBPRo available directly from TGC's website. Can't tell you what the difference is though since I'm using a licensed copy. Thanks and happy coding to you as well.

  • @Irradic But my college only allows use of DBPro, so I might as well start using that anyway lol.

Btw, have you used DGDK? Because that has pretty good lighting features also, idk about dbpro thoes.

Is the coding part much different? Like includes or .x models ??

Thanks a lot btw, sorry for all the Q and A >_>

  • @superant10000 -DarkGDK is really just DBPro for C++. You'll get some performance advantages, but it's basically the same. There are differences if it comes to coding, but you shouldn't have problems to adjust, DBPro is supposed to be easier one at the first place. The out of the box lighting features of DBPro and DarkGDK are nothing spectacular. Start looking into shaders if you want your game to have a current gen look. Anyway, no problem, have fun !

  • @Irradic the difference of the full paid one and the full free one is: the free one has ads

  • when you finish this please make it free download.

  • wow, great job, mayby there was less writing, but you had to spend a lot time on graphics :)

  • @Neomex000 - Thanks. Yes you are right, so far most of the time went into the creation of the models. I'll get back to coding as soon as I have completed that scene.

  • Just Noticed from your channel your Pinoy too Im English but got an apartment in Davao be back there to live in a few weeks. Your skills in Dark basic really are incredible. They should be showcasing your work on there homepage it would get so many more people purchasing dark basic.

  • @mattyjy2k - That's great, hope you will be enjoying your stay in Davao. I actually was born and lived most of my life in germany. I've been residing here in the Philippines for almost 11 years now. Probably I should update my thread on the TGC forum, I haven't done so in quiet a while.

  • This reminds me of Shenmue did you play it? Unbelievable to have done this in dark basic . The trouble is its so easy to get side tracked and leave projects unfinished. ive got an unfinished game i started on the first dark basic more then 10 years ago. so inspiring to see what you have done . This could be an incredible Shenmue style game.

Swear this could be made in to a big selling game everything about looks so cool.

  • @mattyjy2k - I loved Shenmue 2 on the Xbox, never had the opportunity to play the first part (no Dreamcast). I think I wasted most of my time playing the mini games in the streets of Hong Kong. I was always hoping for continuation, but chances for a part 3 don't seem too good. Anyway, keeping your focus can be difficult. But I think taking a break from a project isn't necessarily bad, it keeps you from burning out. Thanks a lot for your comments ! Cheers

  • This looks awesome. You say your job takes up your time? Well I hope that jobs pays you a lot of money! If not, I say finish this game and release it and make lots of money.

I know there is still a lot to be done, but it just has a really nice appealing feel to it already.

If you need a story/script writer I'll volunteer. Mind you, I have no previous experience.

  • @cookiemonster208 - Thanks a lot ! Haha, quitting my job is not an option. My free time has to make due. Thanks for your offer regarding story/script writing, I'll get back to you soon.

  • @Irradic I'm serious about the offer. I would love to get involved with a game.

I am a web developer by profession but I always wanted to be a game developer. I am now realizing that there are many tools and frameworks that make it easier, so I don't have to code straight c++ from scratch. So far I'm liking Unity the best. But your work here is certainly a great testimony for DarkBasic.

  • @cookiemonster208 I enjoy working with Unity as well. Wouldn't the free version lack of post processing and real time shadows, I'd probably go with Unity. Unfortunately I don't have a extra 1300$ for the Pro version at the moment. But I'm looking forward to version 3.0. Anyway, if you are you up to some story/script writing, you can find my email address on my website.

  • is it hard to learn?

  • wow you must be a genius at modeling and texturing these are some really nice graphics.

  • @thajoka123 Thank you !

  • btw, inCREDIBLE graphix and game :D u shud sell this as a company-made game :)

  • can u help me bit? how do u edit stuff in 3D (as in not-in-script)? and how do you make an Online connection, a chat window and so on... cud u please answer me through PM?

  • Incredible work! Well done!

  • did u made the music? how tell me!! i'm making a game too!!

  • How long did it take you to make this? Do you think it would be a difficult program for someone with no experience with this stuff?

  • @ThomasBorn92 - I've been on it for quiet some time now. Job and family consume most of my time, so progress is rather slow. DBPro isn't too difficult too learn. But if you have never coded anything before in your life, it might take some time until you get a hang of it. Maybe you should take a look at Unity3d. You get a nice visual editor were you do most of the work in. I can image it's a lot more fun learning.

  • I hope to see this game in stores or something, If it does happen tell me i'll buy it :P

  • @Feboxreborn Hehe, thanks for the support ! I actually hope I can find the time to finish it.

  • Is this going to be game where you can fight or kind of story based with puzzles?

  • @Feboxreborn The idea is to have both in the game, puzzles and action. Pretty much like the old Onimusha games 1-3 (haven't played 4).

  • Its amazing that you made this 0.0

  • @Feboxreborn thanks a lot !

  • @Irradic in my opinion, no idiot can put in the time and dedication to make a game, but good to know and i accept your apology

  • This looks very good, but how much polygons are usually in the scene ?

  • @Fredyssun - The whole scene consists of around 60 thousand polygons. Average is around 15-20 thousand polygons in view (7k for the player character, rest is level geometry).

  • @Irradic Oh thats very nice. I Never got a scene under 100k polys ^^

  • @Irradic

what will u use this game for? sell? and how old are u? how long did u learn darkbasic from start till now? i hope u help me! thx

  • @NightmareDarktz - Most likely this will just stay a hobby. At the moment I don't have much time to dedicate to this project (job, family). As you can see in my profile, I'm turning 30. It didn't take too long to pick up DBPro, a couple of months. However, programming was one of my majors in college. I purchased DBPro at its release, but didn't do anything with it until the 6.0 update.

  • very realistic looking keep up the great work

  • why is this sooooo glitchy? does it play like this?

  • @Liquadia his pc cant handle his own game

  • @locdown120 - I mentioned a couple of times in my previous video post that the lag is caused by the capture. The actual game runs fluid with 60-80fps. This is work in progress, so don't expect any optimizations. Also, wouldn't it be against common sense to create a game that doesn't run with acceptable performance, well at least on my own PC ? Keep your sarcastic comments to yourself. If you have something constructive to say, go ahead.

  • @Irradic WOA!!! u came at me really hard there. first of all. i just saw this and thought it was cool so i dont watch any of your previous videos. 2nd i've seen great games created that didnt run fluidly on the creator's system.. and i know about the capture lag (look at my video about a game i was making in DarkGDK) 3rd. i was replying to a comment made by liquidas which meant that its not the game as much as it is your system.. and it is, it cant handle capture and gameplay at the same time

  • @locdown120 My reaction might have been a bit strong last night. I was already a bit irritated and stressed when I commented on your post. My apologies. However I must say there is a difference between "his pc cant handle his own game" and "it can't handle CAPTURE AND GAMEPLAY at the same time..." The first post did seem to me like you think I'm some kinda idiot creating a game that runs at 5 FPS on my own system, at the time. Know where I'm coming from.

  • @Irradic -I must say that this might be the last video of the project in DBPro. I did continue working with DarkBasic, despite having other options like UDK and Unity. Maybe because I felt quiet comfortable with it, since I've been working with DBPro for some years now. I knew that it isn't the fastest engine to begin with. So I decided to keep the total amount of polys to around 1/4 of what I actually use during freelance projects on other engines. But already now DBPro is choking.

  • @Irradic I could either say people need high specs or I could cut down further on details (polys) and post effects. But this game with it's graphics quality requiring high end specs is ridiculous. So I made a test with UDK and got 3 times the performance at 1680x1050 compared to 1280x720 on DBPro (both with DOF and bloom enabled). I won't compare both engines, I wouldn't expect DBPro to run as fast as UDK. I was always hoping that TGC would optimize the performance in one of their patches

  • @Irradic That's sad that u cancel your project withDBPro =(

Would you like to share your source code with us if you realy won't work with DBPro anymore?

  • @Fredyssun At the moment I haven't really made up my mind. I'd like to continue with DBPro. I'm familiar with all the workflows, and I don't have to pay any further licenses or royalties, in case I would want to make a commercial game out of it. But then again, the performance is just quiet frustrating. Unity 3d is nice to work with, but the free version just lacks of too many features that I want to be in the game.

  • @Irradic I don't have the luxury of spending 1500$ for some game engine this year (big event coming up which is draining all my financial resources). UDK's solution seems acceptable, 99$ for royalties as long as the revenue is below 5000$, after which I would have to pay them 2500$ for a license. Of course, all that applies only if I would want to go commercial. If we are talking about performance, both Unity and UDK got the upper hand. Anyway..

  • @Irradic I used Evolved's Advanced Lighting shaders, with some slight changes, but it's freely available on his website. The rest is just automatic loading of textures and objects, camera code and physics using DarkPhysic. I've spent most time on the objects and textures. I don't think the source would be useful to anybody.

  • @Irradic im a beginner do u recommend i invest time learning darkbasic or the UDK? also is darkbasic free?

  • Hello,

Amazing.. looking forward to playing the game. Congratulations.

  • Ace :)

im currently working on a dbpro 3d rpg game engine and i would like to ask how you get that lighting effect?

is it just using the make commands in dbpro? also what 3d modeling tool(s) are you using.

  • soz, i diddnt read the discription before posting....

  • @animelewis Thanks ! I'm using a version of Evolved's Advanced lighting shaders to achieve the lighting.

  • This is extremelly good

5 out of 5! Keep it up ;)

  • Looking fantastic! This is definitely of professional quality.
