  • Fantastic! No other way to put it.

  • Ok this song was ok but you can't compare the hollies to The Beatles!!!

  • Why would anyone need to compare The Hollie-or any other band of the era-with The Beatles? For me they were great on their own merits. I enjoy all bands of that age and I don't need to go about 'comparing' them. To what purpose? It's not a popularity contest. It's music. Just enjoy it.

  • I agree. So many great bands, so much wonderful music. Personal preference - I never cared much for the Beatles and certainly think Bobby Elliott a much better drummer than Ringo.

  • On March 15, 2010, the Hollies will be inducted finally into the RRHOF. My best friend and his wife are attending the ceremony and he told me that this will be more exciting than seeing the Beatles in Detroit in 1966 at the old Olympia. This group had so many hits and should have been received better in the US than they were. Still, one great song after another.

  • Love the cowboy hat the drummer's wearing

  • hay la carita de tony hicks que lindoooo!!!!!

0:54 tiene una voz bien suave

  • Graham Nash was still with The Hollies

when this song was recorded in '67.

    Terry Sylvester

    (formerly of The Swingin' Blue-Jeans)

joined the Hollies after Graham Nash's departure.

While The Hollies were doing this version in '69, Nash was then performing with former ByRDS veteran David Crosby, and former Buffalo Springfield lead voclaist Stephen Stills

    (as Crosby, Stills, & Nash).

Overall, this is one of my favorite songs. :)

  • me gusta la claridad de voz con que cantaban en esos tiempos era chevere pero lastima los tiempos cambian

  • hmm , I wonder if the hollies can do a rap version now.

  • I was at my bank today and the tellers name was Carrie Anne. Knowing and loving the song/Hollies, I mentioned it to her. She blasted me on how the song was so offensive to her. I was totally taken back. I told her that I don't think the song was written as a personal attack on her. Then, I got the hell out of there. Wow, talk about sensitive.

  • Tony sounds GREAT singing here.

  • Tony Hicks looks about 12!

  • Great live version but i miss the the xylophone part in the verson im used to hearing around 1:40

  • Tony is so adorable. Allan is cute with a great voice. Terry has a helmet on his head.

  • I was named after this song. :o) It makes me so happy to hear it! My parents were young when they had me (19) and when trying to decide on a name for me, they sat and poured through their 45s. When they came to "Carrie Anne", they both decided that was it! They decided to leave the 'e' off the end of "Anne" though, I guess because the name that was in the family didn't have the 'e'. Thanks for this!

  • Regarding their suits, it is a bit "odd" for 1969, true, but my guess is that they were on the BBC Four and had to 'clean it up" a bit, for sure. Thus the suits, which look very, very stylish anyway! At least they didn't need to get their hair cut.

  • No shit, this is great ! Great singing and harmonies. Bobby the drummer is always nice to watch, a top drummer!

  • a little known fact about the hollies is they were going to call themselves the 'Fools Graspers' but brian benson at Granada TV studios advised them on making into one word so it was more catchy and so the name the 'Hollies' was decided upon after tom hicks's favorite winter plant.

  • I have said it a couple times--The hollies were one of my faviorte groups when I was a teen and into my early twenties. I had all their 45's and Albuns. Its great to listen to good music.

  • Love The Hollies. That was an era when music had expression.

  • The boys sound very good in live performances. This proves they're great singers.

  • Funny, I saw another video, 1967, in colour and they were wearing hippe clothes. Now they're wearing suits and it's in black and white. Kinda cool.

  • Great Song! Although, if that was 1969, why are they in suits? Everyone by that time left that mod look except for them. Way to keep it alive!

  • this video rocks. nice instruments, good lyrics and lovely harmony. well done, lads.watched frequently here in victoria, bc canada

  • this video really rocks.sweet song, great instruments and lovely harmonizing, well done lads.watched often here in victoria bc canada.

  • These guys were awesome and were just as good as the Beatles but never as popular..........too bad, they should have been.

  • this is really live!! THEY WERE FUCKING GREAT!!!!

  • Has anyone noticed that Bern bears an incredible reseblance to David St. Hubbins of SPINAL TAP?

  • THEY MADE IT! They've been selected to be inducted in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

  • Power Vocals and Melodies... Rock on...

  • The Hollies are finally getting their long-overdue spot in the HOF. It is about time the HOF people got off their lazy duffs and did the right thing.

  • for me, this is the definitive version of "Carrie Anne". Big Congrats on making the Hall of Fame, guys. It'll be cool seeing the whole band together, with both Graham and Terry.

  • The concert is Golders Green Hippodrome, February 1969 - originally Broadcast by BBC in May 1969.

On the Recording Graham Nash sings all three Harmony parts on the chorus,

Clarke wrote the "Bridge" section, Hicks the, inital song, Nash co-wrote the verses. (inspired by Marianne Faithful).

The single with three Nash voices on the vese is the Classic version, tho' Sylvester - remember back then he'd been in the band for just a matter of days - also does a Brilliant job on it too !

  • the concert is February 1969, on the recording Nash sang all three vocal parts on the chorus. which is the classic version...

....tho' Sylvester, then in the band for a matter of just days also does a Brilliant job !

  • absolutely they are the height of the enduring cool behind the british invasion fad. They give that movement/genre so much validity showing that its not just the Beatles. Plus they're genius allowed them to break the mold of the stereotypical british invasion and become a deservedly hall of fame rock band. Best band to come out of Manchester until the Smiths.

  • @brilliantcolors7: I love this version too but why "definitive"? Do we have to categorize in a way that denigrates the original single with Graham Nash? They're both great.

  • @cohenfs Thank you for sticking up for the classic NASH version. It's the one I grew up with. When Graham took his golden voice and ear with him it was never quite the same.

  • Thank you for posting this vintage Hollies concert footage! It's magical!

  • I love this concert footage-awesome band all around. Thanks for posting.

  • YEP I HAVE THE DVD OF THIS IT IS 1969

  • you can watch the R&R Hall of Fame ceremony live on Fuse. Congrats to all Hollies members, past and present!

  • Please, what is Fuse? Thanks!

  • Nash left in late 1968 and Terry is playing rythem guitar here and look at the sideburns.. so yes I would say its 1969

  • It could be 1969, but the Hollies released this in 1967.

  • Cool for lisen , of ...The Phundementical Rock & Roll !

  • Never knew this song featured a third singer!

Thought Tony did Terry's third verse.

    Seeing is believing.

    Gigantic band!

  • COOOOOOOOL!

  • I thought the original version said "you played the mommytor"

  • Graham Nash must have provided that higher sounding harmony you hear in the original and at the ending of song - Listen to the original version and compare

  • i love this song i know all the words

  • terry is good but I like graham better.

  • I had to change my underpants halfway through this. It was that good.

  • I love it, love it LOVE IT! :D

  • ¿falta Graham Nash?, debe ser muy temprano aún, falta un par de años para que aparezca...soy muy huevón cierto?

  • OMG i was named after dis song.

  • Love the drumroll after the orchestral part!

  • The Hollies are the best ;3 they are in my list with the beatles, kinks, badfinger, the zombies, and classics IV

  • would you believe, Allan Clarke, is now on YouTube..

    And the great song;

    Little girl

  • Are you sure these guys weren't kidnapped in 1964 and liberated in 1969?

Their costumes are way off !!!!

  • Great song. Hate the strings though.

  • Aww Tony was so adorable.

  • Lyrics Cool.

  • Sure this is 1969?

  • It is-Terry Sylvester is in the group here. He replaced Graham Nash. For whatever reason they chose to keep the mid-sixtieish suits. :-)

  • Well, that's Terry Sylvester, so it has to be after the summer 1968. Nash left the group sometime between February, when he met Stephen Stills, & Sept 1968, whenHollies released "Listen To Me" (the first non-Nash release). It probably IS 1969. The Hollies were notorious for being behind-the-times after Graham Nash left.

  • Suits came back 9 years later with the "one syllable" bands

  • So great

  • strong vocals and harmonies, well written song, awesome performance...i was born in 66 but can't get enough of the Hollies still...

  • I remember this. After this there was a boom of little girls named Carrie Ann. "You're sooo, soo... like a woman to meeeeeee. " -Had to be careful back then with lyrics like that!

  • i'd be one of those little girls ; )

  • #%^&^ string bridge whateva

  • Holy cow! This is great. Like some pop band of today, but like 5,000 times better.

  • theres a lot of great bands in the 60's,but theres one thing y the beatles are on top of them all..its bcoz of their tremendous charisma..

  • As much as I love The Beatles, I'm so glad there were MILLIONS of others that put their own signature sound and identity just the same!

  • Ijust saw the Smother Brothers show video version with original version including Graham Nash - it sounds calypso -like and Crosby Stills Nashy beginning and the dinstinct harmony of Nash

  • Their costumes were right out of 1964. Great, great concert - but their wardrobe guy fell asleep on the job here. In 1969, the Beatles or Stones or most any other pop group would not have performed in conservative business suits.

  • 00:52.........whats the deal with the phobia against long hair then and even now. see his hair, in 1798 the most powerful and wealthiest men of substance had this hair style! google Napoleon Bonapartes paintings of him as a young soldier during the revolution.. youll see. "Old Boney" was a cool dude once.

  • Holy shit, they remind me of the Beatles.

  • agree ++++++++++++++++++++++++=

  • WHAT SWITH THE HAIRRRR???????????? lol XD

  • They just weren't the same after Graham Nash left...........

  • whats with the Amish hat on the drummer ? did he beat up a Mennonite ?

  • The reason is juuuust a bit more pedestrian. Because I respect him, I'd rather not baldly state it.

  • I love this video!

    Beautiful!

    Thanks for posting.

  • Tony makes it look like speaking English is sooooooo difficult. Look at his mouth.

  • Yeah, for some reason I had to watch his part like 5 times in a row....I don't know...why just looks like he struggles when singing.

  • Terry looks and sounds like a young Paul McCartney.

  • Tony's cuute

  • brings back memories

  • love the drummer

  • One of the most underrated rock drummers...Bobby Elliott. Charlie Watts doesn't get his due, either.

  • True enough. I've known these songs for decades, but I've never seen these live vids before. Elliott's drumming is a revelation.

  • in a rock drummer I look for the easy movement, little shoulder sway, crisp touch - Elliott has it all.

  • ALLAN.....BEST VOCALS EVER!

  • They didn't do the part at the beginning that went "Hey Carrie Ann, Hey Carrie Ann" (that part was done by Graham Nash). In this clip, Nash had left the Hollies for Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and Terry Sylvester (formerly of the Swinging Blue Jeans) was his replacement. Also, an orchestra replaces the steel calypso drum solo during the instrumental break.

  • Jaybird1103 you were talking about the Carrie Ann intro (heard that in my vinyl!) Naah, I think that part was written for Graham alone? Terry is good but the shoe didn't fit him good. It was made for Graham Nash I believe.

  • Awesome song!

  • Man, I just love the harmony of the voices with the guitars and the verses : )

  • The lead singer kinda looks like Jimmy Fallon.

  • this is better than the single version. Just like The Who- My generation

  • I've already got the Allan Clarke hairstyle . . only wish I could sing; well, I can sing, badly, yes, but hey, it's singing!

  • This is the most incredible footage of Tony, JMO.

  • im thinking of adopting an alan clarke haircut, do people like his hair in this video?

  • you gotta love England!! ;) i just had to look up the word 'prefects' in the dictionary. ha!! now, how many people use that word in a song these days??

  • I wonder if tony was really that shy or did he just look like it

  • oh my, what lyrics...probably more true than most...

  • Tony Hicks is beautiful.

  • He's cute. :)

  • Allan Clarke,,,was so irrisistable,,

  • Awesome music. I luv the 60's!!

  • I forgot how good this is.

  • ha my name is carry Anne :P lol

  • my God, the End of the Song with the 3 voices makes me shake all over, beautiful, awesome, amazing, The Hollies are the best vocal harmony ever

  • Was that not something ?

  • coooooolllll:):):):):)

  • cool song.

  • That's got to be one of the coolest endings to a song ever. Love it!

  • hi, you are right trough and trough, this is not one of the coolest endings, this is the coolest one forever and ever, regards from Argentina

  • 'You lost your charm as you were aging, Where is your magic disappearing' Love all of the verses and this most especially, ah, watch out now all you Dorian Grays, Ha ha ha

  • Vocalwise, Terry Sylvester filled in nicely for the departed Graham Nash.

  • Comment removed

  • Hah, this is my name but without the e at the end of Anne

  • Tony looks like Brian Jones in this clip You can see him checking out Terry who had just joined the band

  • marvellous clip! Tony Hicks always did it for me..........

  • The Hollies...what a treasure!

  • Tony Hicks is a doll.

  • I'd say its live and its a fantastic performance. Man this band is fricking awesome!

  • This is a live performance. In Concert was the show on BBC. A bit bass heavy.

  • my name is carrie anne XOx

  • where is the solo music coming from?

  • Is this lip synched or live?

  • Let me put it this way do you see a string section playing at around 1:50?

  • Sounds and looks live to me. Guitar and Bass plugged in. The drums are for sure live and the vocals

  • That is live son.

  • Looked like it was live to me.

    Great Video

  • From Bobby Eliiot's drumming with Tony Hicks vocals to the plugged in guitar and bass, plus you can see the lights are lit on the amps in the back, I would say this is live and a great performance too

  • From the looks of it it's 100% live, indeed a good performance.

  • They were filmed in the sixties but how come they look like the boys in my sons' school?

  • Absolute excellence at it's best.

  • While there's no arguing this is a great song, I think it's odd yet intriguing that this concert is from 1969, yet all the band members are in matching suits, common in 1964, but not in 1969, as the hippie movement was already in full gear.

  • One of Britain's all time great - YEAH

    Salem, Oregon USA

  • Comment removed

  • Bobby Elliot was a NATURAL at the drums !! ~

  • Reminds me of the Thamesmen.....drummer even wears a cowboy hat like Mick Shrimpton!

  • hey who knew there was a song named after me hahaha......

  • oh yeah - I also love the way all the bands dressed in suits in the 60's! Very classy

  • Bobby Elliott...rockin the hat as well as the sticks!! lol

  • another karrie ann !

  • OMG! 5*+FavoritesAdd.

  • Ludwigs sound deep and kicking arse !!

  • This vid is 'post-Graham Nash' as Terry Sylvester took his place sometime in the late 60's when Nash moved on to CSN.

  • Nash left the band in '68

  • I love the harmony vocal arrangements in this song..One of the BEST!!!

  • My mum named me after this song :)

  • ITS SCARY.. I WAS NAMED BY THIS SONG..

  • Carrie Anne is a beautiful name. My name is "Puff" after the magic dragon!

  • A lot of girls were. Carrie-Anne Moss for example. Great name.

  • This band had a lot of substance, unlike the hollow soul of today's sound. rap, techno, plastic rock 'n roll.

  • So is Tony like 15-16 at the time this was shot? haha He must have found the fountain of youth because the man doesn't age!

  • Lol-Tony was lucky to be born with such a baby face. It makes him look years younger even today. :)

  • I really enjoy watching Bobby Elliott play. So many of the 60s rock drummers were worthless. Bobby had excellent technique and he was smooth and loose.

  • Incredible voice)))

  • superbe groupe . on adore !!

  • Oh, man, I am loving this. Just the way the bass goes and his vocal delivery. Ah, man!!

  • im surprised not much people have conpared them to the beatles yet

  • Cool! Tony looks like a baby, lol!

  • This ballad has been in my life for a long time. Wasn't until Napster and Itunes before I could get a clean copy. Anyone have the recording that begins with a Brit announcing the song for placement on vinyl? It's kind of cool

  • from 1962... still on AIR !!!

    great !!
