First off, if you are in a stage where you are gonna present a logotype for a client you most likely meet them in person and therefor print your work and present it accordingly. Which obiovusly rules out both Fireworks and Photoshop. Stay in Illustrator and make it there, and keep it vector. If you have to take it to InDesign and lay it out there. Save it as a PDF and print.
I never knew Illustrator was for vector images (my dad always used CorelDraw so I kinda thought it was the only program out there lol)
Just got into logo design and stuff so I'm realllyyy glad that I found your vids and also really happy to know Adobe made this product ! :D thanks a lot

Actually, most of professional designers will advice u not to do any backgrounds. Even more, on some websites (probably most of them) where you compete in contests, it is forbidden to use background unless contest holder asked otherwise.
So, as much as it looks fancy, it not wise to use it.
you made it 50 px . what would be the actual size of of the finished logo that you give to the client and format would you save it in? I have using photoshop and now have move on to illustrator. What are your thoughts?!!
@pinda0020 Some people sketch first when designing logos, I don't sketch. I just start like in fireworks and play around with different fonts and vector objects. My logos are quite simple so jumping straight to the screen is more natural for me. I might sketch if I'm brainstorming on a logo with someone else. But when working alone, I just try to do everything on screen. Other designers will sketch first. What ever works best for the job is good with me. ;)
@mlwebco Okay thanx for the info, i do the sketches first on paper and they look better then on my computer hahahahah so still got to find a good way.
Just wondering where I could download the Helevetica fonts that you have. (30 thick, medium, very, extremely) I've tried DaFont and they aren't there. You have to pay $20 for a single font which is unreasonably. Could you please post a zip file with the fonts so we can access them? Just I'd rather not waste money where it could be spent better somewhere else.
Sorry for the essay, should've been a PM but anyway.
could you do a tut about ... you know how some websites have their page lowered on the site. Now i see some people do a margin top 200px but after reading around, other designers said that it doesn't work in all browsers.
I love your tutorials, I've learned to pay attention to the tiniest details in websites thanks to you. Looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks
@snaggypaggy I did this in fireworks because working with vector tools, gradients and the effects are much easier on fireworks in my opinion. Fireworks handles both vector and bitmaps images much better. It's like a combo between photoshop and illustrator all wrapped in one.
Can't we do all this in Photoshop? I don't see the difference

Do you also make sketches on paper first or do you work on illustrator or photoshop etc etc first.
And if you also sketch on paper first do you scan them onto your computer
