That was really really good. I suffer from agoraphobia and couldn't have said it better myself. That was really well made. Thank you for putting it out there for people to watch and hopefully gain more understanding. Incredible and very moving.
to dfgh123gh: I certainly hope you have seen a doctor. This will NOT just go away by itself. There are many medications out now for this problem. You may need to try a number of them till you hit the right one. Believe me, I know "exactly" what you are going through. You need to take action now about this. Some people respond remarkably to medications....some respond well to therapy....ideally a combination of both.
can someone tell me if this is so much a fear of open spaces as being in environments where unknown things could happen (eg unknown people and social circumstances) I am very reclusive and am terrified of new social circumstances- but I go walking alone on the moors,,,are agraphobics as scared of such open spaces like mountains, fields and moors as they are urban/social environs?
sounds like you have a "social phobia"...which is not quite as bad as full blown agorophobia. You should first talk to your doctor about this. Do not be embarrassed to do this. Doctors are quite familiar with this problem. He will probably refer you to a psychiarist or a behavioral therapist. Get on the phone to your doc now....don't let another minute of your life be ruined. Good luck.
Found something new that may be of help. Google and youtube Alpha-Stim 100. Sounds promising. Check out nurse Gary's post on youtube, he swears by this product. Please tell fellow sufferes about ok? Good luck to you.
Law of attraction involves practicing thoughts, feelings, and visualizations of you doing okay outside in open spaces, at marketplace etc... Literally work yourself up into feeling state of feeling calm, safe, etc... in phobic situation. Practice twice a day (20-30mins)Don't have to be spiritually inclined, it's a universal law (i.e. gravity etc..) Good luck to you.
Try incorporating law of attraction practices, it helps.Never heard of someone having a heart attack because of agoraphobia.Leave it up to the so called experts to give us something else to think and worry about thereby creating the condition itself. Someone please revoke that man's license just for thinking that commenting on heart attacks on an agoraphobic's post was appropriate. Must be lookin' for future business huh.
I'm unfamiliar with the 'law of attraction practices' - what is it exactly?
Also i believe he said in an extreme circumstance they could suffer a cardiac arrest because their heart is beating so fast, implying a possibility in theory.
I googled the las of attraction, and not eveyrone is spiritually inclined. So please don't pass judgement on those who do not incorporate it in their lives.
However if what i read from google is wrong, i do apologise.
Can't believe this hasn't been commented on. Fantastic little short. I can identify with almost everything you say, my mum is very similar in her thoughts, feeling sympathetic sometimes and angry and exhausted the next. I struggle to label what I have. I thought I had social anxiety but there are parts that don't exactly fit the bill, the same goes for agoraphobia and generalised anxiety disorder. It's tough. But well done on this, it's amazing!
Zoloft does help, maybe takes about 2-3 months for the zoloft to get working-
