Best to see them live on the Sullivan Show or on the rooftop in the Let It Be movie clips. George once said their playing diminished when it was obvious no one was listening. Really sad.

Not only is the downtown core packed, the way to the city was lined with people from the Airport in. The buildings are "packed"-There were people hanging from the trees, people on top of the Roof's of buildings.

Keep in mind, some say that their arrivale in Adelaide was even bigger. The whole event has never been forgotten.

IF you go the RIAA--The Recording Industry Association of America Their site, has listed the all time sales of bands and artists in the UNITED STATES ALONE. Guess what? Guess who number #1 is? You got it. The Beatles. Guess what number Michael Jackson came in? 11th! Way behind the Beatles. Behind Led Zeppelin, Behind the Eagles. There is NO HYPE MACHINE when it comes to the RIAA, they are just reporting it like it is.

So, take all of MJ's sales. And guess what? All of that, he can't match the Beatles. Did you know, that the Beatles were the second most selling recording artists from the year 2000 to 2009? They were only edged by Eminem~! They were only edged by 2 million! This 30 years plus since they broke up! That is unheard of.

Incorrect. You showed me the opening of a "show" that would last more then an hour. While he stood there, Lights and "Fireworks" were used. Look at the Beatles when the arrived in Adelaide. From the Airport to the City Center there were people all along the road, some standing form more then 2 days. In the blistering cold/rain. Then in the City Center was the largest crowd. Some 350000-400000 awaiting. This happened again when the arrived in Melbourne.

The beatles literally dwarf Michael Jackson. Again. By 1973, they already sold a half billion albums which is near what Michael did in 30 years! You are reaching to justify Michael Jackson, but the Beatles were a cultural Phenomena, able to bring a half million people in Adelaide, this before they even took the stage or were even seen Live. That has never been duplicated by anyone and anytime. Michael relied on his work with the Jackson 5 then built his own.

I am not ignoring anything. Michael standing still is a joke. They know he will perform. There are posters and a media blitz for such huge stars, they are 'advertised' by the record companies big time. There is no standing still. There is what is called a hype machine. The Beatles arrived in Adelaide then went on to Melbourne and brought New Zealand and Australia to a halt, this before they even took the stage.

That is my point. The Beatles didn't need the "Lights" the "Dance" and the "Sound System" The Beatles would never be heard live, and yet they had the largest hysteria I have ever seen. Elvis, who never toured outside of the United States, sold as many records. That is completely astounding. Your comparing MJ, who was very successful to a cultural phenomena which is different.

The Beatles are still going strong. Other things became "Old Hat" cause it was all done before. MJ record sales are not even close to what the Beatles did. Recall, they sold half a billion by 1973. That is pretty close to what MJ did in 30 years! In a much, much shorter time frame. The closest thing I can think of to the Beatles and Elvis, was Star Wars. That is a Phenomena just as big, but different.

The other thing to remember, is that the Beatles only performed for 20 minutes. They were a very short act. People, knew that before seeing them. Michael Jackson, has to work his audience, and they know they are getting a "long show"- Lights and all kinds of props. The Beatles had none of that. Only 20 minutes and they were off. Just view the events of Melbourne. Not the concert, but their arrival and Hotel appearance. You can see that on Youtube.

@jp3813 The reason there is no hysteria today, is because, we all have seen it before. Its old hat. It has become very saturated. The only reason Beatlemania "died" is that the Beatles stopped touring. But had they toured, the same effect. The media in the Beatles day was not as extensive and there was a lot more competition. The Rolling STones, the Who etc. Just look at record sales and only the beatles and elvis are at approx 1.6 billion.

@jp3813 -The beatles and especially elvis came at a time, where Media was nowhere near what it was by the early 80's and beyond and of course in the last 15 years with the net and what not.

I looked at all the hysteria of MJ, and some of it was 'set up' some of it was real. Him running with the soldiers was a nice camera shoot.

To date, I have never ever seen anything like when the Beatles arrived in Melbourne Australia.
