  • Arlene is awesome. I love her witty comments. xD

  • I'm so glad this is up on youtube. I thought I was taking a shot in the dark when I searched for "George Raft what's my line".

  • Definitely one of the funnier posts. I remember Mr. Raft in the movies when I was a kid. I liked him then, and I like him more now. What a classy man.

  • That was fun to watch! THANKS for posting! Though I never thought he was all that talented as an actor, the late great George Raft did have class, was a snappy dresser & was a gifted dancer. And I loved that fact that he could laugh at his "tough guy" image....he obviously had a delightful sense of humor.

  • Movie legend

  • another tough dancer would be james cagne. but george raft is way underrated imho. i love all his movies, he goes way back. the dance routine with carole lombard in 'bolero' is amazing for it's day. great actor, way over looked with the greats.

  • *NIGHT*AFTER*NIGHT* with Mae West and...Angels With Dirty Faces. See these films and if you have seen them already, watch them again!!

  • Steve Allen forgot that Cagney was a dancer too.

  • That is a great line! The man was incredible and an icon.

  • George Raft was born in 1901 according to the 1910 Census for New York City. His birth record is also listed in the New York City Birth Index on Ancestry.com. His sister, Eva "Katie" Ranft, was born in April 1896, so it would be impossible for him to have been born in September 1895.

  • @cheyennestar

Raft is credited with the best line EVAR when asked in his decling years what happened to all the money he made in pictures::

"I spent most of it on women, liquor, and gambling, the rest I just wasted".

  • @TheJomogogo

That sounds like something he would have said. He was pure class.

  • @TheJomogogo That line has been accreditted to many people, but I really hope Mr.Raft was the first.

  • Raft was born in 1895

  • Very underrated actor. He did his acting with his eyes, not with his face. Watch his eyes and you see a remarkable range of emotion.

    Plus, he moved beautifully.

Love to watch him, no matter what he's doing.

  • George Raft was actually born, 1901.

  • George Raft was actually born, 1901.

  • I have to say... Steve Allen, up-and-comer at that time, pre-Tonight Show... and he still proves himself to be a GENIUS!

  • This was wonderful....it was nice seeing a side of George Raft outside of his movie characterizations. By all accounts that I've read, he was a very nice man, but he should NEVER have passed up those roles that went to Bogart! Thanks for posting this!

  • I was reading an old 1965 newspaper my late Mom had saved and there was a short news report that George Raft had pleaded guilty to tax evasion. I couldn't find anything on the internet about his tax issues so I added the info to his Wikipedia entry only to see that someone removed it a few weeks later.

  • Oh, and by the way, George was one hell of a great dancer. Smooth as Scotch whisky. Check out Side Street. Well worth it.

  • Yes. George was a pal to quite a few mobsters. But, then again, who wasn't? My dad played golf with Costello. And I'm referring to Frank and not Lou. ;^) Raft was quite believable in the role of a gangster. Especially enjoyable in Some Like It Hot. I'm surprised he didn't flip a silver dollar as he whispered his answers. "Yes," he whispered as he flipped the coin.

  • It's sad that George Raft wasn't that famouse over here like he was in 20's, 30's, and 40's

  • I heard George had ties to the mob.

  • I absolutely LOVE George Raft. Great dresser, phenomenal dancer, handsome, sexy and NO ONE wore a fedora like him. Thanks so much for posting :)

  • I love watching him - he's my third cousin - great family stories that my grandmother told me - he was a great character

  • I watched him dancing in Side Street. That guy could dance like no one else in those days. Pass those stories along to your kids and their kids. Are you in the mob. lol

  • i'm a big George Raft fan..very cool that he's a cousin. Love watching his old movies on AMC

  • I hust put a video together. It is little Richard playing rock and roll and your cousin dancing to it. I think George would get a kick ou of it. You can go to my channel and it is the first video.

Mike ----------George was a great actor and a GREAT dancer..

  • I've seen dozens of these wml clips. This one is classic. Thx for posting

  • Asked where all his money went , Raft's classic response : "I spent most of it on liquor, women, and gambling....the rest I just wasted".

  • Do you know what year this clip is from?

  • "Have you not ever sung in a picture?" LOL

  • Why don't people remember him?

  • Check out Steve Allen's classic laugh from 2:55 on. Brings back memories of the great days when Steve Allen was a giant on TV - not to mention so many others. Another time, and far superior to anything today; how sad.

  • He was always so sexy.

  • He's so charming.

  • George looks alot slimmer in this clip. He still looks great.
