Basically in either MK II or MKT, Baraka fights Kung Lao and Kung Lao attempts the hat slice fatality, but I guessing Baraka used his blades to block but was overwhelmed and the hat cut into him, but it appaears Kung Lao didn't cut deep enough. The staples are to ensure his wounds do not reopen while healing. Though originally for MKG it was supposed to be Quan Chi sorta made a golem out of him and the staples were all that was holding him together
