I am definitely a fan of this commercial. The gay and lesbian community have rights, hence the term "free country". Maybe it is offensive to the mormons but they walked right into this one. If the ad offends some people, oh well. At least your rights to inherit property and make medical decisions for your spouse are still in tact. Democracy has worked again. It worked when the judges on the California Supreme Court ruled to legislate the law by removing words that had been put there by prop 22, and now it's working again, by having place the initiative, Prop 8 on the ballot and passing it.

California citizens stand and salute all of those in Utah that helped us pass Prop 8.

From my understanding, there were churches also donating for the opposition of proposition 8. There were churches marching in opposition and demonstration and leading their congregations. But these things aren't offensive because you see them as defending their rights. For the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they were doing what was right as well. What lies? Look it up. One of the San Fran papers has a way to list every donator if you know their name. Put in opposed and go through the list (there's a lot of people.) You will find that there WERE churches donating for opposed AND for passing prop 8. There have been news reports of preachers speaking for their church supporting the repeal. And that's perfectly RIGHT. It's within their rights to fight for what they believe in. But it goes both ways.

There is so much more to it than that. Mormons in fact were nearly expelled from certain places for promoting freedom for blacks. I wish people were more informed about this delicate topic.

Yeah, and there isn't even that large of a Mormon population in California anyways. There were other churchs involved, but most of all, the people. People like me. People who spoke against it. TWICE. They need to let it rest!

Okay, just because they couldn't hold the priesthood, doesn't mean that we didn't want them to not have rights. There's a scripture in the Old Testament. One of the tribes of Israel confronts Moses because they are agree that only the Levites could hold the priesthood. Moses said: "The Lord will choose who are his." So in other words, the Lord will choose who he will when he will to hold His priesthood. Nowadays every worthy male could. Back then only the Levites could.

This commercial recieving this much attention says quite a bit about how bad it is. I haven't heard anything about the commercials that Mormons paid for. I didn't get to see those commercials, but I would venture that this commercial is more about slander, and less about promoting what someone believes is a correct principle. Sorry we have our beliefs and we try to live by them. But this is pure and vile slander. The GLBT could have approached this better.

Look at it this way, prop 8 passed by a small margin. It will be on the ballot again in a few years and by then a lot of the bigotted old farts who are against will be gone.

The "Courage Campaign" what a name with such a hypocritical end effect when they are the ones assaulting one faith and claiming that they are justifying this ad because the church is "invading the homes of Californians through their tv sets".
Not the case with same-sex taught in schools w/out prop8
And no one is making them watch TV so that is the most ridiculous justification for an ad attacking a church simply because they have a right to their side of the issue as I have ever heard.

There was no justification for this ad it was the lowest and most inaccurate political ad this season.
Frankly it was unconstitutional for those judges to go against the voice of the people in the first place. They are only there to reflect and reinforce the voice of the people not to create new laws, that is what a king or a dictator would do.
I am thankful for the democratic process and that our freedoms have been voted on and preserved. Thanks the the MAJORITY OF CALIFORNIANS.

This commercial is ridiculous. Yes I am a mormon, would I ever support this kind of behavior... NO! Our church does not support that lifestyle, but we also believe in FREE AGENCY. In other words people choose how they want to live, and how they vote, for themselves. I feel I am very tolerant of people who choose to live that way, I have had many friends who partake in that lifestyle... but this ad just goes to show that some people truly have no respect for beliefs other than their own. sad...

This is so interesting...because there was a "mormon" in the booth with every person that voted yesterday...NOT! Come on people...voting is a very private thing...you and you alone are in the voting booth and....Prop 8 won....deal with it!

I think the main thing that justifies this add is the fact that the LDS church was actually putting guns to people's head and forcing them to vote to pass Prop 8...wait. I love reading about how everyone should have freedom of expression and rights...unless you're the Mormon church? Where are their rights? Can't they state their opinion without being called brainwashed or intolerant. Besides, if the Bible is true, I would say the LDS Church saved the US from an early Sodom-like destruction!

Lol corrupting? Because we believe that gay marriage is immoral? There's a difference between voicing ones opinions and forcing ones opinions. Just because we stood up against something we think is wrong does not mean we were taking away from anyone else's right to have their own opinions. Did you not see that everyone had the democratic right to vote? Did you not see that 48 percent voted no? Those people were not sripped of their rights. They voted. It just turned out that less people agreed.

I am definitely a fan of this commercial. The gay and lesbian community have rights, hence the term "free country". Maybe it is offensive to the mormons but they walked right into this one. No religion has a right to seep their way into the government, or to try to take away someone else's rights. Which was exactly what they were doing. I live in the heart of Mormonville, and I like that someone is attacking the fact that they are trying to dictate rights.

ok so i am mormon (hence my name =P) and well lets start the people in the beginnning raising their hands up and all that stuff aren't mormons...just in case anyone was confused, not dissing w/e religion that was.
2nd- that commericial is ridiculous and completely attacking the LDS faith which to me is very offensive. yes we're against gay marraige, but obviously we do not oppose it in the fashion the commercial showed.
3rd- im sick of taking garbage about being mormon. sorry...

If the ad offends some people, oh well. At least your rights to inherit property and make medical decisions for your spouse are still in tact. The fact is, the Mormons and the Knights of Columbus funded this proposition. Their "Yes on 8" ads scared people into thinking that schools would teach kids about gay marriage. If that really was their concern, they should have written the proposition to deal with that issue. Instead, they take away civil rights and act wounded when called out on it.

In my experience LDS Missionaries are good people doing good work, and it's the gay community that's loud, in your face, and pushy, with an agenda to make everyone else believe exactly what they believe.

Democracy has worked again. It worked when the judges on the California Supreme Court ruled to legislate the law by removing words that had been put there by prop 22, and now it's working again, by having place the initiative, Prop 8 on the ballot and passing it.
Again, the will of the people has been spoken.
California citizens stand and salute all of those in Utah that helped us pass Prop 8.

We make the choice between love and hate. I am disappointed in how everyone is treating each other. How would Christ act in this situation, with love and understanding. No matter what lies were said about him he never got angry or stopped loving his brothers and sisters. Lets follow his example and EVERYONE show each other respect and love. No matter your beliefs we can all agree on that. This world needs all the good energy we can contribute. Hate and anger is poison.

Wow you have a lot of hatred towards someone. To be honest I was not sure which way to vote on Prop 8, but as I watched the propaganda, it seemed as though those against prop 8 always seemed to belittle those for. And those for seemed to turn the other cheek. I am glad I voted the way I did, mainly to avoid joining forces with people like you. Thanks for the reassurance.

here is the issue that all religions are facing... marriage itself is to be bound in Holy Matrimony. Meaning, bound together by God. How can someone going against God's commandments claim that they have the "right" to be bound by him through marriage? THAT is the point of prop 8. civil unions are a different issue, and why shouldnt you be content with that? its the same thing, except you are bound by law, instead of God. thus, be content with that unless you are a hypocrite
