Bravo Jean Michel!!
Both Christopher Deschamps and Francis Rimbert starts simultaneously to play when Christopher is playing his drums and Francis playes the sequence part :) I assume ya didn't know about that? Well that's how I know it, when I have watched that show on and on on my computer from my DVD disc :)
Any French peoples here, who can help me? I was wondering what Jean Michel Jarre said next to his fans on his concert Paris La Defense, before he and his aides were playing Equinoxe 4? I know only his 3 first words Bonsoir à tous/Good evening all! But more than his 3 first words I don't know what he said :/ Can some of you help me? Best regards from me
J.M. Jarre ess un phenomen...qui ne se reproduit q une fois par siecle. Sa musique a impregne notre enfance, les les plus beaux moments de notre vie. MERCI, GRAZIE,DANKE, SHOUKRAN Mr. JARRE. Salut d un citoyen du monde.
I have the whole concert in a VHS tape. I've seen it thousands of times. I was 7 when it was played, but my visionary brother introduced me to this astounding world.
It was 20 years ago today... A great day, an amazing concert, and I am glad I could be there when it happened. Thanks for posting the video, it brings back memories...
@CanijAsa Well, he is an artist... I believe the illuminati symbols really are just art when it comes to JMJarre. If the illuminati still exist they don't advertise their identities.
@heucatia The illuminati people really make me laugh. They see symbols in everything whilst conveiniently forgetting the Euclidean principle of geomentry in buildings.
Please: If you has this concert converted from VHS onto dvd.. contact me! Wd love to see this gig commercially released someday.. Wd buy it for sure! Can someone help me..? Jarre fan since 1980..

Todo un visionario de la epoca. La puesta en escena tiene un cierto parecido con el ALIVE de DAFT PUNK(si es que hasta los mejores copian de los de antes).
Classic concert by any measure. State-of-the-art for the time...
Playback or not, Mason or not - who gives a sh*t. JMJ has written beautiful electronic music that has brought magic and enjoyment to millions of people.
Much of today's electronic music is over producted, gimmicky and fatiguing.
If it´s playback (I don´t think it is, by the way), it´s definitely a different version from the Equinoxe album one; I don´t believe JMJ would bother to record a special version for just this concert for a playback (the other live youtube versions are different from this one). THIS GUY ROCKS!
this music is almost identical to the albums he has done with this music in it, this is one of his best pieces of work truly stunning. other ones like revelution they do sound different I likfe when he adds new elements to the music keeps it fresh. on the very best ifjarre some parts of this are not in it. I have been trying to find this for ages. glad its on my IPod now
lisossoma - i'm afraid it's definitely playback. this remix/edit of the original appears on the images compilation cd. not even jarre himself could program the old analogue synths (which didn't have memories) this accurately again, let alone play them so perfectly. i actually prefer jarre's old concerts when he 'mimed', because when he doesn't he often sounds awful to my ears (recent oxygene tour excepted).
In 1990 it was possible to retrofit old analogue kit with MIDI. Or the original individual tracks could of been sampled. Or it could of been, with the amount of musicians on stage that it was played live.
I was at this concert, and I'm sure that some of it was live. I am also sure that some of it was also on ADAT or some other playback because of the logistics of having to deal with all of that old analog gear, like the VCS3. But hey, with 2.5m people, I didnt really care at the time !
I would agree on the analogue - which is sensitive to heat, humidity, and all hinds of other factors, so will inherently vary with time anyway. The video looks to me like most of the music is straight digital synth, though, so that would cease to be an issue. You simply sample the individual channels of the original multi-track recording. Besides, the analogue gear here doesn't match that shown in studio recordings or other live performances I've seen. Very cut-down.
@batfink1976 I don't think that was a playback at that time. There's a full band that could no problem take it live. Off course JMJ might just have fun instead of playing his part, but who cares? I'd say that after 1997 he's preformances only with Francis Rimbert were mimed, until the Oxygene in livingroom tour, but not that one.
no this one is not a playback, I have heard every version of Equinoxe 4 I can think off and this version is so unique, when I listen to this version in paris and the recorded ones or different versions its no where near the standard of the paris version, great concert still destination docklands is the best version and the girl singing shows this is not a playback. jaar very rarly on concerts of this scale does playbacks and mimes its not his style and whats the point with how hard he works
But the picture and the sound is not matching perfectly, that's why it may look like playback.
But JMJ is most definitely a great musician.
The music is not very advanced, but he did it way before the majority of the world even knew what synthesizers were, and many of his melodies are classical. Most respectable.
That everyone that likes his shows continue doing it. I haven´t got anything to say about that. We all are free to like whatever we all want.
I only like listening a few of his themes (rendez-vous 2,3 and 4; equinoxe 4, oxigene 2, and a few more). I may agree with you that they´re great melodies; but I don´t agree with you about the concerts. Sorry.
After all, being or not a mason is a different question: Now we talk about his product, not the way that he chosen to improve to success.
Play back or not, franc masonic or not, but really when I was child I had enjoy it every time I saw and now it's my most ambicius to do.
Yes, I am preparing for shows with laser, Artificial and lot of things, not to do the same, I'm going to use my creation, but he is my firs inspiration about Music, Light and efects...
I´m sorry very much if you both have been injured by me.
I only wanted to express that it´s a empty show for believers on that kind of concerts...
What do you think about the masonic simbols of Jarre´s concerts? Do you really think that he would became as famous as he actually is in France without being a francmasonic lodge member???
Yes, I'm aware of heaps of symbolism in his concerts but that doesn't detract from the fact that he is an immensely gifted musician. Please don't take offence, I just thought zahraj's comment was very witty. I was less than 50 feet away from him when he played the laser harp at Wembley!!) (and I said to me mate *several* times - "NOW TELL ME THAT AIN'T PLAYED LIVE!!") Dodgy editing where video and sound are not properly (or in some cases not at all) synched is perhaps the reason for your doubt.
I liked this music when I was a child but now, that I´ve grown I don´t know how I didn´t look that all his concerts are Playback-ones....
I think it a very single melody, well executed with so much tecnologic instruments that only a few of them works... and the most of them doesn´t work: see Jarre´s doubted finger moving.
Do you really swallow this one as a genuine and played on escene concert?....
That's the specific definition for time, although used the most often in that context. Equinox generally means balance, the best representation of equinox is the T'aichi, balancing good and evil.
Jean Michel Jarre isn't just a superb musician, but a superb engineer (nobody but nobody handles that much electronics accurately unless they're an uber-geek), an amazing composer (I'd rank him easily the equal of acknowledged geniuses like Mozart), a staggering philanthropist (name anyone else who has given as much music out for free) and a standard-bearer for his craft (artists should consider why he is great and what they can learn from him that they'd never learn in a class).
Jarre's music is not extremely talented, hell his dad has more musical talent than Jarre, Mozart is a musical genius, But Jarre - the way he puts all these sounds and melodies together makes him a real genius. A 5 yr old could play the main piano part but the way it sounds mixed with the rest of the music is awesome, Equinoxe Part 4 is my favorite composition of his on the original album, and that's why I consider the man GOD, long live Jarre!!!
i could be wrong but didnt 1million people attend this concert thru out the streets with massive screens and also didnt mr jm jarre do this concert for FREE?
i forget the number but i remember reading that he broke a guiness world record for the most people at an outdoor concert(i am not sure if the record still stands)
i used to watch this concert over and over again on tape even when i didn't know what techno was. i was about 2 years old when i first saw jean michel's concert and it still blows me away
noyau? It wasn't 3.5 million on the streets of Paris, when Jean-Michel Jarre have that Paris La Defense concert in 1990 it was 2.5 million. It was when Jarre have concert in Moscow, when they had their 850th anniversary and the concert was Oxygene in Moscow, there on that concert were 3.5 million peoples.
Calypso 2 from Paris La Defense and Chronologie 6 from Europe in concert Barcelona aren't here on youtube :( Why take these songs away from here :( ? I love listen to Calypso 2 from Paris 1990 :)
This Laser and Lightshow from Paris La Defense is my favorite and the best concert of Jean-Michel Jarre I have ever seen in my life and I love this concert with my heart and I have watched this concert many times on my VHS and DVD :) J M Jarre rocks good time and I love all his songs :)
[Latin] equinox, from aequatio = [Latin] make equal, and noctium, nox = [Latin] night. In other words, when the day is "made equal to the night" (ie: the same length). As others have noted, this happens when the sun travels across the equator. How the music relates is left as an exercise.
The album "Equinoxe" just relate the longest day of the year, from the early morning to the late night.
This is just the most powerful version of Equinoxe IV so far, the drums really make it huge, as this concert was actually, it's not everyday that you get 3.500.000 people in the streets of Paris, going from La Défense to l'Arc de Triomphe !! Paris was totally car-less this night, this is just amazing, JMJ really is THE BEST musician of his time !
Words cannot simply describe the beauty of Jean Michel Jarre's music, absolutely brilliant, one of his kind... the show is indeed a great combination of music and a laser show
Magnífico jmj. Yo tenia solo 8 años cuando sucedió este concierto pero recuerdo que mi padre, quien me enseñó su música, me dijo que este concierto tuvo un record de asistencia con más de dos millones. i used to watch this concert over and over again on tape even when i didn't know what techno was. i was about 2 years old when i first saw jean michel's concert and it still blows me away

[Latin] equinox, from aequatio = [Latin] make equal, and noctium, nox = [Latin] night. In other words, when the day is "made equal to the night" (ie: the same length). As others have noted, this happens when the sun travels across the equator. How the music relates is left as an exercise.

Without any doubt one of his best songs, great !!

Its a good music but, whats mean Equinoxe?
yassin166 3 years ago
Equinoxe is the french translation of Equinox, which i cant really explain.
SwedeWithAnAccent 3 years ago
Oké man thankx!
yassin166 3 years ago
Astronomically, the Equinoxe is the time when the centre of the sun is exactly over the equator.

Words cannot simply describe the beauty of Jean Michel Jarre's music, absolutely brilliant, one of his kind... the show is indeed a great combination of music and a laser show
