  • Correction. Bowie sings Lennon. You don't know how pissed off John would be if he saw one of HIS songs labeled as "Beatles". Not cool.

  • I cried listening to this I love John Lennon and David Bowie's music xx God bless Bowie and rest in peace John , we all miss you :'( xx

  • David is a complete artist!!

He is really incredible till today!!!

    God bless you, David!!

  • OMG, This is great. I got shivers listening to this for the first time. Great song John. RIP.

Thank you David. I have loved & followed u for 40 yrs. You are an inspiration to all.

  • Quick correction, Mother is a Lennon song, no George Paul and Ringo

  • @Kreason95 Actually, you mean no George or Paul. Ringo played drums on the Lennon original. :)

  • @princeofthemods69 Oh thanks for that, I wasn't aware of that

  • The video says this song is by the Beatles... but it's not? Pretty sure it's from John Lennon's solo output

  • I miss you David. I don't care if you make a double Cd with covers, must be amazing!!!!

  • haha dam i thought this was a danzig cover too:P

  • @pinkmoonmist It´s a cover - from John Lennon

  • For f's sake what is it with youtube commenters? If an artist covers a song by another artist IT IS NOT A COMPETITION. The original has not been burnt shredded and buried in a hole in the ground...YOU CAN STILL LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL. Bowie is not competing with Lennon, he's paying a sincere tribute to his dead friend. Anyone with ears should be able to enjoy Lennon's version and appreciate the extra dimensions that Bowie finds in the song. A good song is indestructible.

  • @ultang Well said!!

  • I love Bowie's voice. A sad song..no child should feel unloved by his parents.

  • Eh. Not enough pain.

  • @TheFpuff No. Bowie's mother was a pain in the arse but she never left him. And Bowie adored his father who died when he was beginning to have some success and that man supported and loved his son deeply. So yes, not enough pain from inside, but yet a remarkable rendition.

  • "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done": end credits. Right? where was this?

  • i finally know why Bowie may have picked this song. His step brother Terry was an illegitimate child and never had love from Bowie's mother really or David's father. Terry eventually committed suicide. I could be wrong, but it seems the best explination.

  • Fudge me! This is really something (no Beatle pun intended). When did he do this? & Penny Lane too!!? I've missed something haven't I ? Sounds like Reeves on lead.

  • @MalquiLans It was a tribute to Lennon's memory

  • super,géant bowie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don t like this cover. Don t like his voice acrobatics on this one, it ruins the song IMHO. His cover of Pennylane is much better!

  • I love John Lennon but i must say Bowie's version is better!

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i didn't knew that he did the cover ofthis great lennon's song!

  • wow, Dave, ya did it so well with Lennon's 'across the universe', but this one ain't bad either, bro!

keep your -cover- spirit up, bloke!

  • Wow, this is incredible. He really didn't get along with his mother at all. I wonder if she's still alive.

  • If I recall correctly, David's mom (Margaret Mary "Peggy " Barnes - Jones) passed away in an exclusive nursing home in London in 2001. She was 84 years old.

  • @15275657 Thanks for the info. I'm assuming David paid for best care for his mother at the end. I hope there was a reconciliation.

  • The thing is, the voice in Penny Lane covered by "David Bowie" doesn't really sound like him. This does. x

  • terrific cover version

  • Pure ____( EVERYTHING )____!!!

  • i usually think anybody that covers a beatle/lennon song is horrible, but bowie can do justice to any song

  • add ozzy too.

  • Mr. Bowie has a voice with so many dimensions that it is impossible to classify it.

This is why he has lasted as long as he has.

Of course being one of the greatest and most original artists in the world helps too.

I only hope that we have not heard the last of this man, because that would be the greatest shame ever !!

  • @DinoLucca1 I don t like all its dimensions.

  • this is great. awesome cover. and by the way, the penny lane cover is actually bowie. just early before he developed his signature crooning sound

  • Where and how did you find this? Also, why wasn't this song used on that John Lennon tribute album everyone's been mentioning? This is a very good cover of the song. One of music's greats covering a song from a master musician...awesome.

  • John's was better

  • Brilliant - Bowie rocks!

  • where did you get this? I'm curious. Some outtake of the Earthling sessions where he did waterloo sunset too?

  • Nice but sucks the life out of the original version

  • What do you mean lennon was or any of the beatles were whiny?!?!?

    They changed history!

I have nothing against bowie but how could you say that!?!?!?!?!

  • To zey109neo

I'm going to try this again. Last one didn't post. Yes, the Beatles changed history. However, to many, the Beatles just didn't have the voices. They sounded like my elementary school choir. I don't mean to offend any Beatle fan. They were good but their voices just wasn't there. I like a voice with power and emotion and Bowie displays that in this song. The music, the voice, it really brings the true suffering of this song to life. Hats off to Bowie. Beautifully done.

  • Omg love this, 2 of my all time favorites!

  • This is phenominal!!! I love this song and I love Bowie singing it. I have had people comment to me that Lennon's version was better. That this is Lennon's song. I don't mean to offend any Lennon or Beatle fan but for me the Beatles were too whiney. They sounded like a bunch of ...girls. I'm sorry but I can't think of a better word to discribe their voices. Bowie's version packs some punch with a strong and powerful voice that shows a lot of unrepressed emotion. I love it!!

  • Bowie is wonderful at any time. One of the great ones. Of course, Johns is sadder. Both are cool.

  • I love this song and Bowie does this version with class and in great taste as well. Man this is amazing! I liked the "daddy daddy daddy come home!!!". A little Lennon homage right there. Fine work.

  • He did do Working Class Hero as well folks

  • No, Tin Machine Did Working Class Hero.

Not Trying To Be Stingy But There Is A BIg Diffrence. Even Bowie Gets Made When They Refer Tin Machine As David Bowie.

  • I'm so sorry. I,..I did not mean to offend.

  • I Am Sorry. I Didnt Me To Come Off MEan Or Anything. Just Trying To Spread Some Bowie Info!

  • It's ok, I was being a lil' sarcastic. Great video collection!

  • This sounds nothing like Glenn Danzig!

  • What?

  • Is joke. Referencing Danzig's 'Mother'.

  • Oooo. KK. BWahahh

  • Wow amazing! Bowie doing a Lennon cover!

  • of course this is real

    thank you for sharing!!!

  • where did this come from ? I will love you forever if you tell me X

  • it was recorded for a John Lennon tribute album but never used !!

  • Where I come from, they call this a real humdinger! Rough translation, it's a dandy!!!

  • Yes this is a real one it was recorded for a John Lennon tribute album but never used !! but it's only 5 minutes long not 7 :)
