@fekta92 I practice it many different ways: alternate picking, economy picking, down picking, single note per string, hammer ons/pull offs (no picking), plucking, and over the fretboard.
Hey I would like to take a crack at this exercise. You mentioned the fingering patterns but what scale is this? Could you please send link or name so I can printed, etc... thank you and you are awesome!
@PochoNieves I will put it on ultimate guitar . com It is just different finger patterns with the last run being chromatic. I like chromatic as a practice exercise because you are forced to use all of your fingers. Give me a couple days then go to ultimate guitar and search Basic Guitar Exercise No. 1
@PochoNieves The exercise has been tabbed out and is on ultimate guitar. I also provided a link right below the video clip. It is a really good exercise. Good luck.
Hi, your a great guitarists. If you get any negative comments don't pay any attention to them. Not worth reading. From this vid you seem very nice. Your a very hard working guitar player. Watched another vid and your fun to watch with all the change ups. Don't change your playing, well obviously your going to grow ,but anyway keep the guitar in your hand!!
ok got a couple question here..when did you start? ..how often do you practice?..and will i ever be that good? or did you made some sorta pact with ..u know who^^? haha
@JohnWhitesheep I started playing May 2004 - in this clip I was 14 years old. I practice every day between a half hour and an hour...yes just practice and stay committed.
@kevgmei Also, have you played a Epiphone Les Paul Jr electric guitar or a Gibson B. B. King Lucille electric guitar or a Gibson Melody Maker(a cheap knock-off version of the Les Paul)or Gibson Midtown Custom electric guitar or a Gibson ES-335 electric guitar or a Gibson SG electric guitar or maybe a Fender electric guitar or a Fender Squier electric guitar(or also a Fender Jazz Bass guitar)or a Ibanez electric guitar or a Jackson electric guitar?
@kevgmei Because I, myself, play(or learning to play)the Epiphone Les Paul Jr on the video guitar game "Rocksmith" and thinking about a Gibson Melody Maker myself for Xmas! And the Squier is a good guitar!
@kjchicago1 Yeah, I already have 3 knock-offs so the next guitar I wanna get I want legit. I was thinking maybe a Gibson, Mockingbird, or maybe a Bich.

@johntg123 pretty cool, your doing some great alternate picking too, be proud of how good you are, you will only get better. practicing everyday, even for 15mins or hours at a time always helps me, who is your favorite guitarist??
@ExileNJ The goal of the exercise is hand and finger development regardless of tone. I will be putting up the complete Basic Guitar Exercises No. 1 & 2 - which includes this exercise. I will use a clean tone.
Hey there, I'm the same age as you and I cannot play anything compared to what you are able to play! I was just wondering what age you were when you started playing guitar and how long it took you to master something like this. It would be greatly appreciated if you answered back :)
@John/Taylor- yeah you sure are right there! I usually practice portions of songs also but since I don't get much time to play for hours I usually find myself playing and not practicing. Thanks for the tips!
Sorry if I'm being nosey but what type of mindset do you have towards playing? I , as a guitarist, don't actually do many exercises, I just play along to songs and write music - but that would explain why I hit quite a few bad notes when playing songs.
@TheGreatDiverge My approach is based on Franz Liszt's approach t the piano - exercises & guitar songs. I start my practice with 70 or more very difficult exercises - makes up the first 7 or 8 minutes of my practice. I started off with exercises from books, then internet, then I would take the hardest parts of songs by Vai/Satriana/Eric Johnson/Shawn Lane/Buckethead and so on- I would turn them into exercises - ultimately I wrote my own - this was to develop mechanical ability.
@TheGreatDiverge Also there is a difference between practicing the guitar and playing the guitar - you can play all day and not get much better. Always push yourself - find stuff that is hard for you and learn it - don't give up after five minutes, an hour a day or week - slow it down break it down pay attention to the mechanics of what your hands are doing to execute the part. If you tell yourself "I can't do it" stop/quit because you are not going to prove yourself wrong.
@TheGreatDiverge That would be cool. My practice is very diffrent from the guitarist I know - my whole approach to the guitar is different I am still developing but I know where I am going with this.
No es FALSO.! es verdadero.... primero que nada... Genial eso es Admirable de una chica noi es que decrimine es que no se ve mucho de eso pero para que tocas super la guitarra.......!!! =...D
HOLY BALLS. I'm a guitarist as well, about your age.. and BEFORE I watched this, I though I was pretty good xD... But WOW your shredding blew me away! Any tips?
@TheStrawberriijamm Thank you for the compliment. I am really big on exercises - start off with the ones in books, then the hardest parts of songs by Vai, Satriana, and so on and turn those into exercises then finally write your own. Always be developing looking for material that will be challenging to play - find what works for you - don't worry about proper technique - worry about the techique that works for you and practice be dedicated - you don't have to practice a lot just consistently.
@TheStrawberriijamm Part II (ran out of space) - I practice about 70 exercises that takes about 5 to 7 minutes then I practice guitar songs (material by Vai, Satriani, Buckethead, Lane, Gilbert, Eric Johnson, EVH), then styles (rhythm guitar, percussive guitar, classical guitar etc) then I practice band songs (not every day because they are not hard to play) then I write and mess around with Amp etc and work on new sounds. I practice about an hour a day but I practice generally every day.
Hoooooooooooooly S**T. You're fucking amazing if i had a band audition and you walked into the room doing that i think i'd pass out or just stare for hours... You are like a Godess of rock n roll. You and that guitar are like one it's awesome!!
@master18666 Thank you I have been playing since I was 8. I had just turned 14 in the clip. I turn 15 in a week I am way better then this now. I play every day for an hour.
@johntg123 Cool thanks for the reply i've been playing guitar for about a year now and i'm gonna practice everyday for sure plus you make me wanna play :D and also, i know you're way better now because i've seen your other videos. my faves are Eruption and Judas priests Painkiller. :)
@LinZeeLinuz Thank you. I have been working on some new things for the guitar - getting really extreme while still playing traditional guitar stuff. I feel like you understand where I am going with this. Cool
