  • Well put Sheakathleen. I had heard this on an old cassette and fell in love with it in an instant. I lost the cassette and had no idea of the name of the haunting melody hence began a search. Thank God for youtube as I found this last week!

  • this piece has the right combination of hope and despair....each time i hear it my eyes dampen, and the being that i am inside begins to struggle to escape the confines of this world, and go hurtling through the cosmos.....the video is astounding in that ALL the people in attendance stand silent and still; RAPT by the pure emotional charge that is consuming them....forcing them to feel who they are.

  • @JoeFisher12String very well said

  • @JoeFisher12String Pain, despair AND relief! The relief which only a lament coming from the depths of our soul can give.

  • As long as there are people who can create such beauty, humanity has a chance

  • Very lovely of England.I do find them to be such good people. Really does convey 9/11 doesn't it?

  • @Virtuesse09

We are, I saw this live, not a dry eye, it always makes me tearful but this version especially. Best wishes from England to the rest of the free thinking world. We are not alone.

  • THATS ME WHO COUGHED AT 1:43

  • @bloomtoferal That was my belch from 3:36 - 8:05

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • david lynch used it first in elephant man which inspired oliver stone. Stone even used the exact recording by andre preven.

  • Simply the greatest piece of music ever put to paper. Better than even Beethovens third movement of his 9th Symphony!!

  • Sheen would be the first to agree to leave his name light years from this magnificent piece of MUSIC! Mr. Barber tapped into a profound sadness that will demand and occupy the consciousness of our nation in times of turmoil. God bless the men and women who lend their talent to worthy causes.

  • very nice

  • this is so damn epic its awesome.

  • thank you.

  • It's such a beautiful, yet tragic melody.......it tells it's own story........you sit there and something great has happened in your life and you sit there and think about it and then as the instruments rise the emotions inside of you build and build until you want to just scream your heart put till there is no sound, you fall to the ground and sit there, takeing deep breathes to calm down but it doesn't help because you feel so much pain, so much sadness that you just......cry
