  • It was quite strong in Hull when it first hit

  • i never experienced an earthquake.. but i can imagine it being too scary :S

  • Lol i was in london and it happend at 3am and i was like O: but it wasnt strong enough to break glasses over here :(

  • i live in hartlepool and my mirror vibrated in my bedroom

  • earthquakes can happen in bizarre places.

i lived in hudson ohio which had like a 4.4 earthquake and i was in karate class and we were balancing and everybody stumbled or fell! ohio had never felt an earthquake before that, or at least in a long time. and now i live in india and i actually thought i velt a very slight shaking in my room today. i felt dizzy! luckily both hudson and delhi are not soft soil but hudson is near one of the great lakes (lake erie). earthquakes are sooooo cool! B-)

  • This is so cute.

  • I live in Surrey. And I live in the top floor of a 4 storey house. At about 12.55 I woke up with my bed shaking. I have never been so scarred. I physically could not move for about 30 minutes and then sat up and watched the TV for the rest of the night. It was shoking the fact I could feel it in Surrey when it was so far away. Weird

  • How did you feel it in London? I was in Darlington (much closer to the epicentre) and I never felt a thing. Even my dad and sister who were in Leeds at the time said they barely felt it, and considering it was in Hull, that makes them pretty close compared to London... this is well confusing :-s

  • She said that she had recently felt an earthquake in California. If you have felt a significant earthquake once in your life, you become much more sensitive to small ones in the future. Also, the ground does not shake equally throughout an earthquake zone. It depends on the soil type under you, what kind of building you are in, whether you are sitting or standing, etc.

  • I don't see how that can be true, you see, one of my flatmates is Japanese, and one of my ex-girlfriends is Japanese, and Japan is one of the most seismically active places on Earth. I had me ex round at my flat one time, and the three of us had a conversation about earthquakes in Japan, and they said that they never used to feel the smaller ones, but after moving to England they've become more sensitive, and when they go back they notice them, when their friends and families don't.

    Dan

  • Dan,

I don't feel the smaller ones if I am driving or walking, but I do when I am sitting still in my upper-floor apartment where the waves are magnified or in neighborhoods that are on unstable ground. (I am in San Francisco)

  • Although the rest of it I understand very well, but wouldn't the Earthquake travel better through harder ground because the soil would absorb it quicker than rock? If so then that makes it even stranger because England get rockier the further North you go, and where I live is actually inside a valley, lol. And I was also closer to the epicentre, lol. It's strange anyway :-/.

  • No. Harder ground can travel as one piece. The worst soil is landfill, especially if on a waterfront. The effect is called liquefaction. If you look at the San Francisco earthquake of 1989, the double-deck freeway in Oakland collapsed ("Cypress Structure") while two double-deck freeways of similar construction in San Francisco (closer to the Santa Cruz epicenter) were left standing. The distance from the epicenter is only one factor and not the most significant.

  • Haha, first thing i thought when it was happening was that my brain was shaking... and then that a giant rat had bumped in to my bed.. and finally that it could be an earthquake. crazy shit.

  • i live in southern california.. i love earthquakes! :-)

and i don't think you're going to get an earthquake strong enough to knock stuff over.. you're safe :-) BUT if you do.. do NOT stand in a dor way. just tuck yourself into a ball and cover the back of your neck w/ your hands/arms!

    alexandra

  • We did there was major structural damage in Grimsby and other places in Lincolnshire granted though that earthquakes arn't usually considered when building houses in the UK.

  • wow really... yeah i didn't think u had huge earthquakes there..interesting..

  • no neither did we lol

  • But apparently England suffers from roughly 200 earthquakes a year, but they're all weak and you don't even notice them really.

  • I just read about this earthquake online. Apparently, this one was surprisingly a magnitude 5.3, a relatively strong quake for Britain!

  • I was in the 1989 earthquake in San Francisco. The most frightening moment of my life. The ground moved up and down from side to side at least 2 feet for 45 seconds. It was like a giant bowl of jello with extremely loud noises! Scary ass shit!

  • The main earthquake was in Lincolnshire, but was felt throughout the UK, because it was 5.3 and all. I live in Kent, we had one last year, was crazy. (originally from South East London, there is a reason I like to state this fact, don't ask (O_O)) But yeah, I know I might sound like a religious nut, but SIGN OF THE TIMES!!! Earthquakes, that is....in England.

  • Maybe you weren't in London until you woke up, eh! Scary thought.

  • lol, yh take the chavs, lucky no one was hurt, was felt over most of the country.

  • Earthquake in London!

Hopefully the ground opened up and swallowed a few 100 chavs.

Before any of you get narky, no was hurt in this earthquake....although still a shame no chavs were taken out!

  • sum1 was hurt mann sumwheerrr da manz chimney fell off and hit him nd broke his hips

  • You should have been in Leeds - or anywhere in Yorkshire/ Lincolnshire - it was rocking!

  • i love your videos but recently i don't think they have been the same standard as your previous ones.

  • I know! Sometimes you come across as a bit ignorant and selfish in your videos paperlilies. London wasn't even affected that much by the earthquake - many Londoners didn't even feel it..

  • In london? sorry but the UK does not revolve around LONDON!

  • shes saying London because she felt it in London you spak.

  • why would you insult people with diasabilities by using profanity such as 'spak'? are you like immature or insecure or something? or just ignorant about what 'spak' implies?

  • In london? sorry but the UK does not revolve around LONDON!

  • In london? sorry but the UK does not revolve around LONDON!

  • In london? sorry but the UK does not revolve around LONDON!

  • I CAN'T HEAR YOU

  • :0 it wasn't just in london for gods sake! i gt woken up and i liv in newcastle.

  • well said! You have to keep telling these London people - they think only they exist!!

  • You dont have to be anywhere near the epicentre to feel an Earthquake... The waves can travel for miles before it reaches the surface

  • when was this?

  • I'm starting to believe Katers17, england must really be mind-numbing boringgggg

  • I was wide awake at the time...

    And felt nothing :(

    x

  • I think it was like a shockwave effect, London and the South West just gor a ripple lol.

  • I think it was like a shockwave effect, London and the South West just gor a ripple lol.

  • Earthquakes RAWK!

I've been through many of them here in California XD

My favorite by far was the 1994 Northridge Earthquake! Everywhere you went looked like the end of days or a zombie movie. Fire hydrants shooting off, people walking slowly in the streets, sparks from power lines, and smoke. Very cool XD

  • cool? grow up

  • @ viriatus:

Everyone knows an internet tough guy is one step below flaming fag and one tiny step above quad amputee.

  • Come on it wasn't much of an earthquake, most people around the country didn't know what it was until it broke on the news lol.

  • ATLAS Experiment, a huge Particle Accelerator that will accelerate 2 protons almost to the speed of light and have them collide with one another. The 2000 plus scientists from all over the world who helped create ATLAS are hoping that this collision will create a "Mini Big Bang". Scientists don't know EXACTLY will happen. Some say it will crack the core of the Earth, some say it was open up extremely small black holes
