These new magnets using the 'rare earth' material are certainly stronger than Alnico magnets. They are used in computer disk drives and more recently, in large motors. I hear tell they are also good to magnetize errant children so as to stick em on a refrigerator and so keep em out of trouble. Good demo. Enjoyed it.

You can get these magnets in hard drives in your computer. Thats what they use to read and write information on the drive and to hold it steady from what I remember.

Those are magnets out of really really old hard drives (pre 1998). Very expensive rare-earth magnets.
