I’m a Makarova-maniac but even I am disappointed that she didn’t take a crack at the fouettes here, since they’re as much a signature part of the choreography as they are in Swan Lake Act Three. There are at least three video recordings on youtube alone of Makarova doing fouettes, all of them as Odile, and ranging in quality from a little shaky, to indifferent, to pretty decent. Too bad she didn’t attempt them here in Don Q.
for me, fernando bujones is the best male ballet dancer ever!!! who cares if you don't do 8 pirouettes like baryshnikov... he is sheer elegance in every step he performs and you can see how you can perfectly blend technique and artistry.. he is my true idol and inspiration for ballet.. Rest in Peace, Fernando!!!!
@burreiro17 you're true. Ballet is not a circus For me it is elegance, interpretation, to get to everybody in the audience involved in what the dancer is performing and transmit a feeling. That kind of artist was Fernando Bujones who I was lucky enough to meet in Lima (Peru) and gave congrats after a presentation a lot of years ago. My sister, prima ballerina in Lima, had the chance to dance with him the Pas de Trois of the 1st act of Swan Lake. Rest in peace, master.
Thank you, Taurusbs and egomi24, I did not know....but this video shows how elegant & awesome she is as a dancer that shines in anything she does on stage. Thank you.
I am stumped that someone would call Fernando "yuk" "Yawn "awful". This is ignorance, I was fortunate to have taken class's with both he and Makarova as a teenager . I just cant believe the ignorance that comes crawling out of the youtube woodwork
Thanks for this post Marlo. I was there 30 yr.s ago and have not seen this till now. It brought so many memories and tears. R.I.P Danseur Noble your legacy will live forever. I recall they got a standing ovation. Two artists at their peak.

I was there, too (new Your, 1978). Yes, simply electrifying! Thank you so much for letting me relive such a great performance.

Makarova and fouettes weren't enough friends.

@taurusbs and she had just come back from having a baby. I think less then a month afterwards here!

@taurusbs you're right. She never needed fouettes to shine though. A master!
