I'm not sure I understand the point of this video. The only moving violation the biker makes is following too closely. Cars stop more quickly than bikes.
I'm a rider. While it is good practice to keep your eyes in your mirrors (at least until a few cars are stacked up and stopped behind you), there is no way to guarantee you won't be rear-ended. This is one of the most vulnerable places for a motorcyclist to be and why I am a proponent of allowing filtering or lane sharing.
It's not legal to filter here. If you just stay back a car length or so with a clear shot to an escape route and look behind until a car or two stops, you can avoid most of the problems.

Just now seeing this video and am not suprised by the comments. They collectively contribute to the fact that people just do not pay attention and in general don't get "it". It should be obvious that the real danger is in the very beginning of the clip when he's completely not paying any attention and is sitting there "no handing" it. Then he gets the bright idea to completely disengage & check out what's going on with his cell phone. If that seems ok to anyone, you are in danger.
#1 no gear on #2 bike is to big for him from what i can see #3 not watching everyone. so im still not sure but even if he was watching behind him he would have a split second to react and with cars beside and infront of him he would have to take the curb.
How would flat footing the bike save this guy from being rear ended. Flat footing only helps those who shouldn't be riding to begin with or if you're going off road...
I can't tell if he's using his mirrors or not and i don't care. But i will comment on flat footing. Only people who need to flat foot are the people of bedrock and fucking harley riders who paddle their bikes because they do not know how to balance and most cannot balance because they use the ridiculous forward pegs....

ooooo, wow i never thought of that, and ive been riding 3 years lol. although i was taught to ride kinda close to the center line when im behind a vehice in order to be seen in the rear-view mirrors...including when im stopped at an intersection, and ive made that lesson a habit. and ive been riding with the new mirror block-offs i just got so im always checking my surroundings.
I'f you've been taught to ride close to the centerline, you've been taught wrong. Suppose the person straddles a large brick or something? If you are close behind, you will have no chance to avoid it. The best place to ride is in a tire track.
tire tracks ARE typically close to the center line. also, it gives you the ability to check the road ahead of you (the 12 second rule) so you can prepare for obstacles such aaaaaas... a large brick.
ive ridden without a helmet legally a couple of times and loved it. sux thats its just too dangerous and not worth it because of the ignorant drivers on the street with us.
Another mistake to notice.... the biker is NOT wearing his helmet! A BIG NO-NO!!! He could have been brain dead if he had not been careful enough in a event of an accident(If you notice carefully in this video!!!!)
