@TellyComedyAndDrama Alex Harvey listed both the Beatles and Stones as influences. And Dury had contemporary The Who (who were influenced by both) as one of his. So although Dury doesn't list either the Beatles or Stones as an influence I'm sure they did change his life somehow.

Out of the mediocre 80s plastic and punk, Ian arose as a modern sage. In your face yeah, but such an endearing style. Every one of his songs tells a story if you care to listen. There was a very likeable side to this cheeky bloke. Sadly, no longer with us but he sure made Cockney well known. Gone but not forgotten.

Ian dury, born in the same year as my dad, therefore 10 years older than my husband. Hubby just noted that nothing has changed for him since the time that this song came out. The only diferences are, that the sex has become more selective, the rock 'n' roll louder 'cause the hearing is going and the drugs he is now taking are now for the cholesterol and the bloodpressure. But besides this.... ;-)
