Somethinge else I liked about this team is that they all seemed to get along. There don't seem to be any rivalries, even though some are better at things than others.
This takes me back to high school and watching straight US women's olympics and Michael Johnson litterally flying down the track and winning every race he attended. The 90's were great!
This takes me back to high schol and watching straight US women's olympics and Michael Johnson litterally flying down the track and winning every race he attended. The 90's were great!
The problem with most of the teams now is that they only have a minimum of 1 world championship experience. The Mag Seven had (outside of Moceanu) had each been to at least two world championships. That experience is so valuable.
4:13 and to think... nobody in the audience would know what their pictures looked like until after they left the arena to get them developed somewhere XD
@whitemagicgirl1 No you aren't. It was really evident as soon as Kerri hit her vault and then Shannon asked Dominique a question and she had a little attitude. So I understand what you're talking about.
to me,there was never a better U.S.A. ladies team, and there will never be another.everyone of them had a job 2 do and everyone of them, did their job beyond the call of duty.
You are correct as it turned out, but at the time the Russians were still on FX. There wasn't anyway they were going to scratch. I think any of the girl's in Kerri's position would've gone. Even Shannon herself in an interview had no doubt that Kerri would perform the second vault.
@LAX324 Kerri also needed to hit that second vault if she wanted to qualify for the event finals, but yes, the USA would have won the gold medal without it. That vault guaranteed them the gold.
I love how Shannon and Jaycie and Amanda are trying to get Little Moceanu over on the end, like she's supposed to be, so it will go tallest to shortest, and Dominique is ignoring all that.
I know that the Men's Russia Team & Women's Team performed Gymnastics just for fun after the olympic competition together in 1996. What was that called?
what are u talking about?, they all were concerned, look at amy and Jaycie faces, they were very much concerned so was the others. it was already planned that Domi and Shannon was going to help her up.
we must be watching a diff video then cause the one i see has the other girls wanting to help kerri get on the podium and unless moceanu was digitized she looked pretty helpfu to mel!!
kari strug's u r the best..u laned on one leg.. u got the girls the gold.. we love u kari america should remember the name in gymnastics always KARI STRUG'S

Really?! lucky shannon miller was there to help Kari get on to the podium! the other ones were not very helpful on that one! Miller's fortunate enough to have European origins! i guess you meant you're proud of the American selfishness!
Notice Jaycie and Shannon are trying to tell Dominique M. to get over at the end of the line, because they were supposed to line up tallest to shortest. Moceanu ignored it. Yet another telling moment of discord among the U.S. "team."
For crying out loud. Who cares? Why on earth do you want to tarnish the memory that all of us have of this moment in our lives with a ridiculous observation like that?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If that tarnished your memory, you have a problem with your memory. And it's not a ridiculous observation - it's true, and I think it's funny, and I didn't say it to tarnish anybody's memory. (mka800 is my old channel.)
I can Remember this moment like it was Yesterday I was sitting in the Family Room with my Family Watching these Games I was going in to my Senior Year of High School.. And To hear the National Anthem on Tv to hear the athletes as well as the People in The Georgia Dome it was Breathless it like a moment you'll never forget and to See Keri Strug Land on that landing with just one foot was pretty special because thatz the one moment in time you shall never forget 7 woman strong 7 gold medals team
I met the Dr Who Treated Keri Strug in the 1996 Olympic Games and To go back to those memories from those games i'll never forget it The National Anthem in the Georgia dome with everyone singing it it was so bittersweet 7 Gold medals 7 Woman Strong.. Hopefully in London We can charish more memories and Bring home the gold for the first time since 1996 USA Gymnastics is the best.. :)
Rules changes from the FIG. It went from 7 here to 6-up-5-count in Sydney and Athens, and then to six team members with a 3-up-3-count final in Beijing.
@tigerbear9 that really sucks. That will mean that many more who won't make the team. I feel bad for them. If I could, I'd change it everything back to the way teams were in 96 (including the compulsories), but leave the current scoring system the same as it is now. I'm all for the gymnast being rewarded for more difficulty, but I also miss the real dance elements. Shannon was a wonderful dancer. Very expressive.
I never get tired of watching this. It brings tears to my eyes everytime. I live in Atlanta, and I was here when all this was going on. I love these girls, they are the best!!
I def agree with you all that this was the BEST US team ever. I think part of the problem with the teams now...including this year's is that not all the member contribute as much as the others. The 96 girls each played huge parts. This year the team was carried by shawn and Nastia.I also dont like how only 3 girls out of 6 compete in each event b/c that singles out individuals more and focuses less on the team...its kinda like there is a team within the team..in 96, 6 out of 7 perform each event
Yeah! You´re totally right. I hope the next US team remember this, how that 96 team first objective was win a "team" gold medal. I hope they remember to Kerri, how she ,literally, sacrified herself for the team and they won!
Do you know how to get a dvd of this event, I mean the whole event? I would love to have a copy. My daughter is really into gymnastics, it would be something to show.
True, but you have to consider that 3 out of 6 girls in Beijing were injured. Had everyone been OK, I'm sure we would have seen all 6 compete in the team finals.
This was a dream. I grew up being a Dominque Dawes fan. And everyone did so well. I loved this whole team. They truly made me proud. There hasn't been a USA team as good since then.
if she hadn't hurt her ankle, i wonder how she would have done in AA since she qualified for it.
