Nice seeing you brought up that scene where it's the POV shot going into the pillow. I take that as her suicide(at the end) or the death of her innocence/old self. Also, like you said, it could be as simple as she begins to dream. This is why the film is so f'n brilliant. I could talk about every minute of this film cause I see the "big" picture, if you will, at this point. Repeat viewings are very, very necessary but also give you even more interpretations to work with.
I think I actually forgot to mention it was a POV shot, but I only picked up on it as I re-watched the opening again. I think the flick is open to many interpretations and thats why it's so awesome, and I defo need to watch it agian.
Haha, I love your reaction as it finishes. It's definitely a film that warrants a rewatch or ten, that's for sure. You MUST see Blue Velvet and Inland Empire - they're amazing. Inland Empire is almost a sequel of sorts to MD and Laura Dern is incredible in it. Highly recommended.
I just thought of something: I wonder if the blue box was Diane's "blue box". As in, her *ahem* lady parts were sad because she wasn't getting any action. What do you think? :-P
I actually watched Blue Velvet yesterday and started on Inland Empire but didn't get to finish it, both very good though. You no I never thought about that but I guess it's a possibility.
Liking your ideas Ferg, I forgot about the bit where she falls towards the pillow at the start, that was pretty cool. The guy who had the dream was very wierd, I still don't get his part.
ive tried for years to understand this film and i still can't quite get certain bits
