  • racist as fuck

  • Blacks should rape white women .History and natural justice demands it

  • Love this, Larry Parks playing Al Jolson. Reminds me of my childhood and my Dad singing Jolson songs ah, those were the days.

  • I heard there was a video going around that showed the president at a fundraiser doing an excellent imitation of a singer named Al. Is this it?

  • @SubzeroAtTheBone are u pretending to be dumb or just not using your brain? Barack Obama sang a line from an Al Green song because Al Green was in the audience.

  • greasted singer of all time simple as that

  • I REMEMBER DOING IMPRESSION OF AL JOLSON MANY TIMES IN THE 70'S IN THE TRENTON PBA SHOW? TO ME HE WAS MY GUY STILL AND STILL IS TO THIS DAY?

  • Did they use Al Jolson's original voice?

  • @ConfusedSponge Yes all the sining in the movie was al Jolson's original voice recorded specially for the movie.

  • @TheSealOfTheRose ;-) Thanks. So this version is difference from the Jazz Singer version?

  • @ConfusedSponge

That's right this one war recorded in studio.

  • @TheSealOfTheRose Thanks ;-)

  • At first I thought he was racist too. But I have a handy tool called 'the internet' which gave me some good little history lessons. Yes, there were racist comedians who performed in blackface to mimic African Americans. But Jolson didn't use blackface to make a statement, he was just hiding behind a mask which gave him more freedom on-stage. He actually was a strong supporter of African American rights. If there's a dispute over history, look it up. Otherwise, you don't have an educated opinion.

  • I'm trying this at the next American idol audition

  • i think he is great larry parks did a good job at this

  • Great performance! Wonderful classic tunes right here.

  • Its an awsome song ,But what is he sinnging about his mother for?

  • Hi, i'm logged onto my dad's site, but i'm an 18 year old girl, and love Al Jolson. been brought up around him and his songs. really glad these are on here. :)

  • Black people crack me up.

  • This isn't racism, I think it's the reverse.

  • @Barfetta3000 You're so fucking ignorant. He did this to show respect for the blacks. He was a pioneer in equal rights for blacks. As early as 1911 Jolson fought for equality on the Broadway stage. On his return from San Francisco, he brought with him to New York the Black dance team of Johnny Peters and Mary Dewson, whom Jolson wanted to feature in his next show, something that had never been done on Broadway.

  • @1337kamikaze Perhaps as a result of this, perhaps not, but it remains that Al Jolson was the only white man allowed into Leroy’s, an all Black nightclub in Harlem. This is no small honor. This is forgotten or ignored.

  • @1337kamikaze You are spot on. So many young people today just don't "get it"!

  • Most people don't realize that blackface got its start out of admiration for black music & dances. There were some racist performers but most weren't.

  • Like to see Obama do this number.

  • 84 people would rather be watching the movie White Chicks!

  • @canoga1958 That one was actually pretty good

  • @canoga1958 .I do-my grandad let me here him when I was a kid.I'm 50 this year!Superb!

  • @Thedarksecret1 you're an idiot

  • @canoga1958 and I'm sure their IQ would add up, collectively to 84.

  • Wow. Just wow. So many people here are so up their own arses they can't appreciate what an amazing song this is, what a great film this scene is taken from (how many of you have actually watched it?), and what a legendary musical performer Al Jolson was.

You don't even deserve to be on the same planet as this guy.

  • Dam great the best entertainer and singer the greatest yes he is great we need more of these entertainers I agree with you Wonderful

  • Cracking classic video and song from Joe for his Mum tommorow (Mothers day). The old ones are the best and can't be bettered.

  • is it just me or does the guy at 0:20 look like nick from left4dead2?

  • what a great voice!!

  • where can i download this song?

  • Did al jolson actually do the songs on this or was it the actor ?

  • @tonymontana1974 I don't know if anyone has answered you yet, but Jolson recorded the songs and Al Parks pretended to sing them.

  • @chomsky88 Thanks its a good film so was al jolson dead when this film was released.

  • @tonymontana1974 Actually, no, because they made a sequel in 1949(Jolson Sings Again) for which he again recorded songs and which showed how The Jolson Story came to be made; one of those rare sequels as good as the original. Though he did die a year after that in 1950.

  • @tonymontana1974

    No he wasn't.

He was in the sequal "Jolson Sings Again" showing how he wanted to be in the original movie about him but they decided he was just too old for the part.

  • @tonymontana1974 no he wasn't, he appears in the audience in the sequel.

  • great vid!
