I fell in love with Rickie's voice the first time I heard it and have simply never fallen out. She is one of the finest voices working today and keeps the legacy of Ella and all the great singers who used their voices like horns. I've seen her three times and met her once- she's one of the few people I'd still pay to see perform. I saw her perform in '81 at the Louisville Palace, a beautiful antebellum theater supporting her "Pirates" album. To say it was magic would be far short of the mark.
we should all be so grateful that she's still out there, in her prime now, giving it everything she's got, utterly sublime & unrivalled . Thank you Rickie for 30 years!
I was blessed to be able to sit not more than 50 feet at an event she held in NY years ago....she blew me away the first time I heard her....she floored me that night....I stated this years ago....the most under-rated singer-songwriter-storytellers of my generation
I think of Tom Waits, but I really only think of Rickie Lee Jones because she is unique. Not truly unique, not very unique. Unique needs no modifiers. She is one of a kind, and she belongs to us and we to her. We belong together. I was so stunned the first time I heard Coolsville - stops me in my tracks every single time.
What an incredible performance of these amazing songs -- hard to image better versions than those she recorded, but these are.
She sang "We Belong Together" at a concert here in Seattle a couple years back, with as much feeling and power; still new, and fresh, not a chesnut from the back catalogue to please the fans. I felt like a trap door opened in my soul, back into a world she's found a way to make present. It keeps me coming back to her. Water from a deep well.
There's never been a thing i don't like about what she does in a song, and there's a lot in there, always was, fun to read the lyric sheet on the old vinyl insert....cause its large enough to bend around your face and stay where in the muse, Rickie....such good value, these songs and albums never seem to age.
It's either a fugue or it's perfect clarity- whichever it is, I find myself within a unique space each time I listen to this performance. Everything else stops.
God I cant believe only 3 comment's? well I do believe it. Every since I was a boy, she was far to under rated by most. She fuckin just pulls my heart out... It's spooky. I cant imagine that talent
wit, and beauty, knowing about the desire and rejection, and a sensitivity that I thought i owned.. but I dare not show,, cause i'm a man.
She is a treasure.. like a Joplin ,Phillis
Hyman. lady dayish, little Nina kinda Like Roberta Flack's words use to make have to sit down. i b a whimp.
Amazing performance! It must have been so good to have been there in live.
I used to play this song when i was just 15 years old, and it brings me back. I am now over my 30, and i still find it a really good song. She is so clever. Impressed back then and now.

Thank you to my parents for listening to wonderful music when I was a baby.
Every time I hear Rickie Lee Jones, Neil Young, or Joni Mitchell, I feel like I'm 3 years old again, and hearing music for the first time.
