I have a special relation with hornets like this. Here in the states, we have the European hornet. Almost as big and a little more mellow than the Japanese hornet, these guys kept the sweet corn that I grew free of harmful insects such as the corn earworm and armyworm.

insects/larvae in general are very high in protein and minerals by weight. they are quite clean with very little by way of human transmissible diseases, farming insects is possible for use as food and far easier than raising livestock , however its is largely overlooked by westernised countries because of the cultural barriers to eating insects. Beef has well known benefits and downsides ranging from the common e-coli to Mad cow, and is resource intensive to farm.
