it gets warm when turned on, but not hot enough to burn you or anything like that.

@alvincyt for the maps you need to install a whole new gps software. dont use the included software unless u live in japan....

what's the battery life like with normal usage?

Std 2600mAh battery : approx 2 - 3 hrs
Large 5200mAh battery : approx 4 - 6 hrs
(watch video or use internet via WiFi, with LCD brightness 100%)

Windows can be changed to any language, only the TV tuner and GPS map software supplied are in Japanese only.

yes, boot from usb pen drive is an option in the bios (USB stick or even SD card etc)
