  • oooh snap, my bad i just thought it was a Stan Getz song because it is on one of his albums. Well whoever gave me a rating of 5 stars you rock!! I'll try to do another stan getz song soon, maybe some of his more latin stuff, but man just listening to this is giving me the goosebumps right now i am not even joking. And its warm in the house so i know its not because i am too cold!! haha. He has amazing breath control on that sax.

  • Stan Getz did not write the songs on his albums. He wasn't a composer, except for maybe an occasional blues (i.e., Stan's Blues). He just played the sax.

But he did that better than anyone else, IMO, and that's more than enough for me.

  • well, yes and no. I rank Stan Getz with Miles Davis as the summit of melodic invention and phrasing(spontaneous composition) in jazz.. Jimmy Rowles played piano behind Billie Holiday. By the same token, Charlie Parker wasn't a composer in the structural sense, even though he had some tunes, but his melodic invention contradicts the idea, wouldn't you agree?

  • The Peacocks is a song by pianist Jimmy Rowles.

Stan Getz is playing it on sax on this recording.

  • Ouch, I will try to walk that one off. Well, which sound are you talking about, my drums, or Stan's sax? I know it doesn't sound as good as it might on the actual record or anything, but I don't know, I still think overall the sound is pretty good. Was my drumming okay though? My recording equipment is really cheap and really bad and all, but It's all I can afford right now. I work at Taco Bell and am still just 17 and in High School, so I am on a tight budget, haha. Thanks for watching though!

  • Hey outer432... Having received your comment and re-reading my own here... I guess my comment was a bit harsh! My apologies. Having landed on this video and hearing the recording quality caught me off guard! Stan was my father. I guess you can pretty much assume that I knew him and his 'commitment' to his own sound/recordings being presented the best way possible. He was a real stickler for that! And seeing as he was known since his teenage years as "THE SOUND". I guess you can understand?!

  • I did not mean to imply anything negative about your playing! I think it's great that you are obviously passionate about this genre of music. And Stan would be more than thrilled about that as well. So... no harm intended! Just had to say it like I heard it!(RECORDING QUALITY!)

    All the best,

    Bev Getz

  • o ok..yeah stan getz is a beast, i have my drumset back at my house now finally so i will make another stan getz video soon..any recommendations? I am looking for a good song to do that is w/ out drums like the peacocks, so i can do my own thing and add color. I havnt really played in a while but music is inside me, like stan getz! lol.

  • This sound quality is HORRIBLE... (to say the least). I'm sure Stan would be honored that you like the tune - he would NOT be happy about the SOUND! (~:
